For years, Arden McMillan has been hiding his phobia in plain sight. People can believe whatever they want to believe about him so long as they never learn the truth. It’s easier to lie than to be seen as a coward. Besides, it’s no one’s business but his own. It’s been ten years since Ignatius Rojas—or Iggy—has seen Arden. Their reunion doesn’t suit either of their families, but their connection … connection is hard to ignore. The problem is, Iggy sees behind Arden’s masks. He sees the way Arden is slowly killing himself, and he can only ignore it for so long. If he can’t break through Arden’s tough shell and convince him he needs help, he could end up burying the man he’s growing to love.

Cravings of the Heart was my favorite in the Trials of Fear series! I devoured this book late into the night. Arden’s issues stem from a tragedy that left his soul tattered and his mind broken. Not getting the proper help caused his fears to multiply over the years to the point they were debilitating. He was on the edge, and all it took was one chance meeting with an old crush to pull him away. I loved the store of Arden and Iggy. Nicky James always writes such powerful, emotionally available heroes who help the love of their life in ways no one else can. It’s beautiful to watch them as they slowly drag their love from the depths of their inner hell into a reality they can mostly navigate and truly begin to live. Her in-depth knowledge into these phobias and the emotions that take their toll is excellent. I highly recommend this book and this series! Nicky is a one-click author for me and I always read her books the day they go live! Five Premium Saltine Cracker Stars!
As with all of Nicky’s books you get pulled in wanting to know more of what’s going on. The way she thought out these fears in these men is incredible. Arden‘ story was heartbreaking and tears came to my eyes in more than one occasion. Iggy is such an amazing , caring, loving man and you could see this in how he was so supportive for his mum, his friends and of course Arden.
I loved seeing cameos of men from previous books and look forward to the final book in this series!
All the feels! I really felt deeply for Arden’s journey and just loved Iggy’s patience and understanding when building a relationship. Nicky is a master of delving into the motives and motivations for a character and her creation of Arden is a great depiction of that. Very well done.
Every time a new one in this series comes out I fall in love all over again! I have no idea how she does it but Nicky James is a true artist in weaving an emotional love story! I loved Arden and Iggy so much!
s always, Nicky doesn’t disappoint. I love that she writes about harder topics, like phobias. Her characters have so much courage and strength. Iggy and Arden are no different. Arden suffers from a phobia of food. He is slowly killing himself because his list of food he can eat is so small. Iggy and Arden reconnect during an accident and neither of them can seem to stay away from each other. Iggy offers so much support for Arden and it’s clear he loves all of Arden.
This is such a moving and emotional story and I really enjoyed Arden’s and Iggy’s story.
Another great installment in this series I loved the way the author has portrayed different phobias throughout this series.
This story is about Arden and his fear of food and Iggy who is a paramedic who try’s to help Arden overcome his phobia.
A very well written book.
I highly recommend this book.
This series just gets better and better!!!
Cravings of the Heart is the 6th book written for the Trials of Fear series and I’m happy to learn that it’s not the last.
As with all of Nicky James’s books, her attention to detail is outstanding, her character development is on point and her commitment to educating her readers about Mental Health is commendable.
For years, Arden McMillan suffered in silence with an eating disorder – more on point, from Cibophobia, a fear of food. This has affected his life, but his family seem to ignore or just turn a blind eye.
Iggy Rojas, ousted family friend, sees Arden after 10 years and immediately knows that something is not right.
I absolutely love Iggy. His patience and love for Arden, his commitment to help him admit his problem and seek out help is just beautiful.
Arden’s strength in the face of bullying and denial from his family is heartbreaking.
Cravings of the Heart can be read as a standalone, although we do meet previous characters from the series… but why not read the entire series!!!
IT’S AMAZING!!
Mrs James hints at an event in the next book that will have readers guessing and wanting to read the finale (note that this is not a cliffhanger, but more a whetting your appetite ending).
I can’t wait to read the next book!!!!
Thank you for another 5-star read Mrs James!!!
2nd favorite in the series, behind Touch of Love….Iggy is such a wonderful character!!!
This entire series has gripped me and held my heart from the beginning.
Arden and Iggy’s story was so damn moving. I felt the love, the heat, the need.
Ireland is my favorite in this series and it was so fun to see his minor role in this book. I think Iggy just might be my #2. The love and faith he had in Arden was impressive.
Read this book, read this series. The best example of perfect hurt/comfort you’ll find.
This series is really outstanding. Rarely do you find a series, with brilliant writing, characters you love and the amount of reach it had to take to accurately describe the issues the character has to go through.
Arden. Beautiful Arden suffering in silence. There were times where I wanted to hurt his family. Just punch them in the throat, especially his parents. Made me scream! My heart broke for him. Then there is Iggy. Sweet, patient and I mean really patient Iggy. They became friends and then more but this has to be NJ’s sweetest and most lovable character. He is a rock. He is supportive. He’s damn near perfect. This was another story that had me hooked from the first word to the last. Even though it’s a standalone, you get a glimpse of the other characters in the series, which I loved. Also, Brava to Nicky James for handling the mental issues with her usual sensitivity.
