World War II intrudes on the pastoral life of the Yorkshire veterinarian and #1 New York Times–bestselling author of All Creatures Great and Small. Only a couple of years after settling into his new home in northern England, James Herriot is called to war. In this series of poignant and humorous episodes, the great veterinarian shares his experiences training with the Royal Air Force, pining … Royal Air Force, pining for a pregnant wife, and checking in on the people back home who made his practice so fascinating. As the young men of Yorkshire are sent into battle and farmers consider the broader world they’re a part of, Herriot reflects on the lives—human and animal alike—that make his home worth fighting for.

It has been a classic for years.
I read this years ago. Loved it. Reviewing this book makes me want to read it again.
All Things Wise and Wonderful is a continuation of the multi-book memoir of James Herriot’s time as a veterinarian in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s. In this particular book, the reader learns of Herriot’s adventures primarily through the flashbacks he experiences while training as a pilot in World War II. In that sense, All Things Wise and …
All four of the James herriot books I have read are exceptional and deeply touching. Revealing about people and situations he encountered as a vet.
All the James Herriot books are great books. Each chapter is a separate story. Some chapters make you laugh, some make you cry. You never know what you are going to get. I highly recommend the whole series.

I love all of James Herriot’s books on his veterinarian practice in rural England.
If you love animals, you will LOVE all of James Herriot’s books. When you add in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside and the interesting and delightful people, you will find yourself wishing you could have been there.
Imagine something good and wholesome and suitable for the whole family from about age 10 upward … and still interesting. A Yorkshire veterinarian in the middle of the 20th century goes about his rounds meeting with strange and amusing people and their animals. In the first part of the series, I actually recognized some of the old practices and …
Herriot’s stories make us feel as though we are right in the car, office and barn with him as he treats his animal patients. His descriptions bring the people alive. The stories made me laugh, and cry, love this book.
James Harriot continues his story telling about caring for upper England’s folk’s animals, large and small.
