There are things that we want, and things that we need. Sometimes they end up being one and the same.PHILIPAll my life, I’ve known two truths: my best friend Jaeger is my true mate, and I’m destined to marry a princess I’ve never met for the sake of my kingdom.Prophecy’s a bitter pill to swallow when you’ve tasted true love and are told it can never be. But I wouldn’t be worthy of my beautiful … never be. But I wouldn’t be worthy of my beautiful omega if I were willing to let selfishness be the ruin of my people.
Still, I don’t feel anything but selfish as I keep my childhood friend close, and yet forever out of reach. The pain of our proximity reflected in his eyes. A better man would set him free, but I’m not that noble. Just noble enough to deny us both what we crave.
But if I can’t be with the man I love, I can at least be a better prince for my people.
I need to remain focused on staving off my enemies as I’m teased with the promise of the only thing I’ve ever wanted.
Because as it turns out, prophecies are never quite what you think…
JAEGAR
If the story of my life has a theme, it must be this: so close, and yet so far.
Orphaned and raised as a brother to the wolf prince I love more than my own life, but never quite felt like one of the family. Talented enough in battle to silence the rumors that only favoritism gave me the role of his bodyguard, but not skilled enough to protect him when he needed me most.
I am willing and eager to be the partner—the mate—Prince Philip deserves. I can give him everything he wants, if only it weren’t for the one thing an ancient prophecy demands of him. The Prince must surrender to a marriage with the heir of a kingdom strong enough to protect his own.
But we are who we are, and we all have a role to play. I’ve made peace with mine. Ready to step into the shadows and allow his bride to bask in his light. But then I discover:
I am not who I thought I was.
And I have a far greater role to play than any I prepared for.
Discover the hidden truths that are revealed when these fearless men take destiny into their own hands. True Mates, is an exciting M/M, shifter, MPREG romance that makes you believe that fate may have a plan for us all.

This shifter story is set around the medieval age. There are castles and sorcerers and suits of armor. The plot is pretty good, the world building is good, but there are some issues with language. The younger characters tend to use modern dialogue and older adults use flowery language suggesting an earlier time. While it did not take me out of the story, it was a little distracting when current slang popped up.
I would not classify this as a romance per se. It was more of an adventure with shades of courtly love (for historians and English lit majors) and some romantically sexy scenes. The MCs are super likeable and like I said, the plot is really good. Fantasy and wolf shifter fans will enjoy this one.

This has a bit of everything. It has a setting of castles and kingdoms, but at least one of those kingdoms are werewolves and there’s magic! There is a twisting plot with deception and betrayal. I’ve enjoyed this fantastical walk through these kingdoms learning who to trust, who is good, who belongs, who should have been elsewhere. RECOMMENDED

Great story and amazing characters!
The book was addicting and hard to put down. I loved every second of it.
I do think some things could have been slightly better, like seeing both Philip and Jaeger interact a bit more with each other. It seemed they were a little more distant than the story intended for them to be. And I still remember it was mentioned in the beginning about a reoccurring nightmare Jaeger would have, but it was not explained and nothing came of it. It was not mentioned again. Other than that I loved the story. The ending was the icing on the cake!
I loved this book. You fall into the story and it will not let you go. You will laugh and cry during this book but it all ends well in the end.
I did not really enjoy the last two books I read by this author. Noah Harris is a technically excellent writer but not all of his stories grab me in the way that True Mates did. At times, this story reminded me of an almost Arthurian tale; at other times, it was pure fairy tale. The mix worked very well.
Although the book is more about Jaeger and Philip, to me there are actually five main characters. Makepeace and Verity, and Minerva, are all as equally important to the story. Jaeger and Philip are true mates, yet their characters are such that it is not going to be plain sailing for them in the way that, perhaps, it is for Makepeace and Verity. The transition from looking longingly at each other for countless years to acknowledging they are meant to be together is excellently written. There are many other wonderful moments too. The background to Minerva and her two handmaidens is another such example.
Usually a fast-paced read, there was a lull for me in the middle of the book where I almost began to drift. Fortunately, it was a momentary thing and I was soon back into this amazing story. I would like to read more of this world, but there are no immediate contenders for a second book.
Great story with a medieval backdrop. I loved the combination of action, court intrigue, and sorcery. This is an emotional story, too, as Philip and Jaeger try to balance desire with duty. Great story with great characters.

I voluntarily this book as an ARC for a honest review.
Prince Phillip is having to play the part he was raised to preform, whether he liked it or not.
Jaeger loves the Prince enough to stand aside as the sorcerer Orrin skimmed away for the kingdom to end a war or so they thought until soon to be queen Minerva show up. All is not as it appears to be. A plan is formed, now can they all pull it off and have the happy ending they all desire?
Nice story. See Amazon review
Jaeger and Philip grew up together. They were best friends. One was a prince and the other was a guard. Both were being use by Orrin. Orrin hated what Philip stood for and wanted to rule the land and exterminate all the creatures. Will Jaeger find out who he really is? Will Jaeger and Philip find true love?

Philip Prince of the Southern Kingdom, his best friend since birth and guard to the royal family, Jaeger. Have bee in love with each other since they knew what love was. Though they always knew that Philip had to marry a princess and they could not be together.
There is treachery in the kingdom, they have always suspected but could not prove.
This is a story with many layers, and great characters, I really enjoyed it.
My only negative is that while the are werewolves it is almost a undeveloped part of the story as almost everything is done as humans even in the pack in the forrest.
Well worth reading.

This is definitely one of my favorite books by Mr. Harris. I loved the fantasy, the sorcery, the Princess and the land between the two kingdoms…with the inhabitants who don’t really fit in anywhere. I just needed to draw a map in my mind to place Makepeace and his mate’s land in relation to the Prince’s and the Princesses’.
The Princess rocked! Jaegar’s birhright was the most exciting part of the book and I loved the conclusion. A fitting ending for the regents.

A truly, excellent MM wolf shifter romance that grabs the reader’s attention, & keeps it until the last page is turned. The plot is excellent and well-written with enough historical background to support the story-line. The characters are emotional motivated to do the best they possible can in some unusual situations.
It is about: an orphaned male wolf shifter (Jaegar) who is raised as a brother to the wolf prince (Philip) and the two of them are soulmates. Jaegar is prepared to sacrifice his own happiness for his soul mate, in order for the prophecy to be successful but then he discovers who he really is.
There is: royalty, alphas & omegas, werewolves, a sorcerer, adventure, action, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, secrets, danger, enemies, magic, sorcery, enchantments, manipulations, treachery, heartache, betrayal, emotional turmoil, physical conflict, lies, verbal disagreements, discovery, implications, war, death, alliances, peace, love, happiness, some steam & a satisfying ending.
I really would recommend this MM shifter romance to people who like to read this genre. I doubt that you would be disappointed in this book
