Bram Stoker kept secret a tale even more terrifying than Dracula.
It begins among the Carpathian peaks, when an intrepid explorer discovers a mysterious golden box. She brings it back with her to the foggy streets of Victorian London, unaware of its dangerous power…or that an evil beyond imagining has already taken root in the city.
Stoker, a successful theater manager but frustrated writer, is … manager but frustrated writer, is drawn into a deadly web spun by the wealthy founders of a mission house for the poor. Far from a safe haven, the mission harbors a dark and terrifying secret.
To save the souls of thousands, Stoker—aided by the explorer and a match girl grieving the loss of her child—must pursue an enemy as ancient as the Saharan sands where it originated. Their journey will take them through the city’s overgrown graveyards and rat-infested tunnels and even onto the maiden voyage of the world’s first “unsinkable” ship…

I could not not put this book down! It was so well written and exciting! I didn’t realize, how much I needed to read something new and interesting, yet fun and entertaining! I have found, my new, favorite Althur!
I love this author!
The Night Crossing is a historical thriller and the newest masterpiece by Robert Masello. The story bears a striking resemblance to Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, one of my favorite books, and lo and behold, he is a character in the book. I’m a huge fan of Mr. Masello’s books, and this one does not disappoint.
When archeologist/explorer Mina Harcourt discovers a gold box of Egyptian origins in the hands of a skeleton in a cave in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, she unleashes a frightening power and a curse. She returns to Victorian London with the priceless treasure and finds a like mind and friend in Bram Stoker.
Bram Stoker, the manager of the Lyceum Theater in London, has yet to write his masterpiece Dracula. There is a saying that when you save a life, that life belongs to you. When Bram saves an impoverished young woman, Lucinda Watts, from committing suicide, he finds himself entanglement in her life and her quest to bring the murderers of her child to justice.
The ancient Egyptian gold box is stolen, releasing deadly magic, which threatens all who possess it with death. Victorian London is obsessed with Egyptology, seances, and mediums. But what do the recurring child murders and the gold box have in common? Mina, Bram, and Lucinda must stop the murders and recover the box. The thrill ride will take the three through the underbelly of London’s workhouses to the doomed voyage of the Titanic. For the aspiring author Bram Stoker, the journey will be the inspiration for his mark on the literary world, Dracula. It’s an adventure you won’t want to miss.
Bram Stoker becomes Van Helsing! Set in late nineteenth-century London with Stoker as its unlikely protagonist, Robert Masello weaves a suspenseful tale filled with arcane mysteries and a dash of gothic horror. Although the supernatural elements hail from ancient Egypt instead of Transylvania, Masello imagines a series of frightening events that inspired Bram Stoker’s “Dracula.” A fantastic read!
I loved this book. A mysterious box from the Carpathian peaks, seances, and foggy cemeteries in Victorian London? Adventure and spooks and Bram Stoker? Yes, please.
The Night Crossing was easy to read but engaging and the overall atmosphere was great.
I have already recommended this to a couple of friends of mine and I’ll definitely be checking out more of Robert Masello’s work.
This was an okay book. I felt that something was missing. A lot of name dropping.
In the Night Crossing, Robert Masello performs a masterful interweaving of history and supernatural fiction. The resulting novel mesmerizes, providing a rare combination of fast-paced entertainment and the deep impact of a book that goes to the heart.
It’s worth noting that the heroine’s trajectory transcends the typical outcome of so much genre fiction. I was entranced by the characters, insights, chills, and fun of this novel. I’ve already nabbed another Masello treat. Enjoy!
