Mo Collins, the reluctant Hero, has sailed around the country on board the replica pirate ship, the Viva Ancora. Now he finds himself only miles from his childhood home, but the world has gone to hell. Hordes of naked, blue, biting zombies have flooded the now dead Alabama lake town. Mo and his only surviving shipmate, Crow, are doing just that, surviving. They fish and watch the monsters roam … the night; seeking untainted flesh and leaving a disgusting mess in their wake. However, when “out of the blue” a lone survivor stumbles upon Mo and Crow, they gain a new crew member but also find much-needed direction. The newcomer, Smokes, will change Mo’s view of this zombie-infested world forever.
As reality mimics fiction, an ever-growing cast of crazy characters play out their role carving out an island sanctuary in a plague-ridden world. The Expert, The Tech, The Oracle, The Sacrifice, The Old Friend, plus many more ….. Join us on this wild ride where the fish bite, the Zombies bite…and sometimes life bites.
Welcome aboard, friend, to Zombie Lake.

There are tons of Zombie books out there and this is definitely the first series I’ve come across with humor in it. The story isn’t just about Zombie slaying, it’s about the characters coming together and trying to survive. I think the exchange between the characters is very realistic and makes for a fun, likable group. I enjoy the journal style writing and the blurbs at the beginning of each chapter are a nice addition. I look forward to continuing the series. The narration is spot on and really helps me get a visual on the characters.
It’s a very humorous view of the zombie apocalypse. I very much enjoyed reading this different approach to this genre.
I really enjoyed listening, a unique and humorous view of the zombie apocalypse that had me laughing out loud! I couldn’t stop listening and was disappointed the book had finished, I was looking for book 2 immediately to carry on the adventure with Mo and friends! Oh who am I kidding, let’s just line up the rest of the series! Please keep them coming!
First of all, let me say that this book is very tongue in cheek and it will make you laugh. It starts out like a typical zombie book. People going about their every day when “it” hits the fan.
Mo works on a replica pirate ship, yes you read that right. They sail across to lake/river towns on a regular rotation. They sail into Mo’s hometown. Mo doesn’t really want to call his parents or leave the ship. He and Crow, the cook, decide to stay aboard. The next day they start seeing blue people. They realize they are zombies that are yes blue and that umm defecate themselves and leave messes all over.
Crow fishes and cooks and they stay mostly onboard and make runs to places during the day. One of the days, they meet Smokes who is trying to steal a car. Mo points his bow and arrow at him (found on another ship). Smokes joins the crew after somewhat surrendering and tells them how things are going to be now and how they have to find the other ‘roles’ needed.
Different
It strikes me that there doesn’t seem to be a explanation for the stars that are given. So I thought I’d start giving my take on it.
1 horrible no redeeming qualities.
2 there are redeeming qualities.
3 good worth reading, or well written but not my cup of tea.
4 great but there’s something off.
5 loved it.
So now about this story. I couldn’t stop listening, I can’t wait for more of this series. I want to say more about this story but I absolutely hate spoilers, so I won’t do it to you by going into details.

This was a fun imagining about what a zombie apocalypse might be like. I liked this book a lot, I started to care about the random group of misfits and started really rooting for them to succeed. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
I had a blast reading this first title in the Still Alive series. The creatures in this one are pretty creative, they are zombies but not really the common kind. Definitely a fresh twist to the genre.
Not your typical Zombie Apocalypse book, love the characters and especially the humor, our Hero is just your average, everyday type of guy surrounded by some very extraordinary characters, Great Series and
very well written , I have felt every emotion at least once while reading the books in this series, while also laughing out loud.
Zombie Lake is the funniest zombie apocalypse story I e ever listened to. This was not what I was expecting at all and I loved it! Even the narration made me laugh. The narrator does the funniest Alabama accent that was so bad, it was good! The characters were very relatable. The Oracle, Smokes, was probably my favorite character in the story and certainly the one that made me laugh the most. I definitely plan to listen to the rest of this series!
