Dr. Erica Heathersby is the last person Spencer Mattox, ex-band member of Zenith, should ever be attracted to. When Erica offers Spencer a job, he resents her for it, because she is successful in her career, her life, and as a person, in ways Spencer believes he can never be. But Erica soon finds her medical practice the target of political debate, and herself the target of someone’s violent … desires. Erica turns to Spencer for protection, which develops into a relationship that neither of them is prepared for. Erica knows that in order to keep Spencer from destroying what they have built together; she has to overcome the devastating past he tries to hide. But then again, none of it will matter, if Erica doesn’t survive what is fast becoming someone’s deadly intention towards her.

This was book #2 of the trilogy. I enjoyed this one as much as the 1st. It had great characters with a great plot. Another emotional read and I’m glad that I read this series.
The main characters in this book will simply rip your heart out with their pain, fierceness, and intensity. Spencer is a broken man with trust and self-worth issues so vast and deep that you can barely sense his humanity. Dr. Erica Heathersby is a well respected ob/gyn who desperately wants and needs to find her future in order to truly live in the present. When these two souls meet it’s instant and explosive, yet their pasts and secrets have the ability to destroy the connection each feels for the other. Great, realistic story!
I have become a big fan of Leanne Davis’ writing! Another amazing book written by her. I loved this book just as much as the first. I could not put this book down. This book has romance, suspense, and you will be in a little emotional roller coaster. This series is definitely a must read!
I was kind of impressed with Erica. She realized what she felt about Spencer was more than she’d felt with anyone else and she wasn’t about to give up on him. She is strong, capable, nurturing, and is an overall great person. I loved both of those characters in the last book, but we got to see so much more of them here. Spencer is a great person, but so broken. He deserves happiness, but tends to push it away. I think Erica went further than anyone else to prove she was in Spencer’s corner, and he was her protector.
I have become a Leanne Davis junkie quite literally. I’m never disappointed by any of her books. This second installment of the Zenith trilogy was even better than the first. Dr Erica first met Spencer when he was parading around as a scary looking rocker keyboard player for Zenith known as Spike, so when she comes face to face with him later she doesn’t recognize him. Their story will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. Spencer and Erica are such polar opposites socially, economically and psychologically but their chemistry is volatile and explosive. Spencer’s a broken man, deeply wounded by a disturbing childhood so his attitudes and angry persona is hard to deal with. Erica can’t help but love him and she’s got the patience of Job to a point and she is determined to heal him or die trying… quite literally because she’s being threatened and tormented by an unknown psychotic maniac. It’s hard to say much more without spoilers. This was classic Leanne Davis writing grabbing onto your heart and squeezing. This story had romance and edgy suspense, and definitely made me feel every emotion the characters evoked. Can be read as a standalone with no problems but knowing where they started out in the first book I recommend reading the whole story from the beginning.
Dr. Erica Heathersby is an obstetrician who runs her own practice and stays busy. She is so happy to deliver the baby of her best friend Joelle who is now married to Erica’s ex-boyfriend, Nick Lassiter. As Joelle’s friends come in Erica is surprised by one handsome guy who looks vaguely familiar but can’t quite place him.
Spencer Mattox has turned his life around since the disbanding of Zenith, the band he was in with Rob Williams. He saw the destruction of Rob and Joelle’s marriage and how Rob and the other members turned to alcohol and partying and he vowed to change things and went from being Spike to Spencer. Unfortunately he has not managed to find a steady job but is keeping to the straight and narrow.
When Erica realizes who Spencer is, she gives him a job working in her office building doing maintenance. Yet the two soon begin a close friendship but both are torn with feelings of jealousy towards the other.
Soon Erica finds herself the target of an unknown assailant will Erica find herself reaching out to Spencer? Can Spencer and Erica both deal with their reservations about themselves and the difference between them to come together stronger?
This was such a great book with lots of tension, romance and mystery!!
I really liked Erica from the first book and how she recognized how Nick and Joelle felt about each other and stepped aside for Nick to pursue Joelle. Then she was there for Joelle with everything that she was going through and you could tell what an incredible person she was. This book continued that as she always put others ahead of herself although I found she was a bit of a doormat when it came to her boyfriend Roy.
I also really liked Spencer in the first book and how he tried to be there for Joelle as much as possible. In this book you could tell that he was really trying to keep Rob sober and keep him on the straight line but it was difficult when neither of them had graduated high school. I hated how Spencer felt like the job from Erica was a handout but he knew he really didn’t have another choice, even if it was something he didn’t enjoy.
I was freaking out about the attacks on Erica and my suspicions were between so many different characters and in the end I was completely wrong! I loved that I was wrong and the person made complete sense!
The relationship between Spencer and Erica was so complicated with their totally different backgrounds. They each had reservations because of that and Spencer had his own past that he needed to deal with and open up about. The two had so much chemistry but needed to be open with each other.
I really loved Rob Williams in this book and how he became close with Erica and was there for both her and Spencer. In the first book you learn to hate Rob and in this one you begin to see a great Rob when he is sober!
This is such a great series and I can’t wait to read the next one!
Erica and Spencer’s story. Another great read about these characters. Erica aand Spencer’s journey is not an easy one, but one that is worthwhile in the end. Now on to book 3!!
Second book in the series and it was just as good as the first. This one follows Erica and Spencer. Well written and it was a good read.
Loved this book, Erica and Spence and are the best characters! Well written, developed storyline. Love this series so hard. Relatable characters. Recommended
Long read, yet captivating. Love this author and glad she was recommended to me.
This highly anticipated novel to the Zenith Triology was well worth the wait. Spencer and Erica had so much chemistry that I thought my kindle would melt. The road was filled with ups and downs and both characters needed to find acceptance within themselves but when they do they find their HEA. Wonderfully written and looking forward to reading more from this author.
Loved it
Leanne Davis is one of my favorite authors. Zenith Rising is amazing and I think better than Book 1. Spencer and Erica have such a great story and can’t wait to see the next book.
Zenith Rising by Leanne Davis is book 2 in the Zenith Rising Trilogy. I loved this book even more than the 1st. It is so well written and holds your attention from the very beginning. This book has romance, suspense and takes you on an emotional ride. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for book 3.
This is book 2 in the Zenith trilogy. I loved this book. This story is about Erica and Spencer formally known as Spike. We first got to know Erica and Spike in book 1. Spike is now going by his name Spencer. Erica isn’t to sure at first since she first meet Spencer as Spike and he scared her. I loved the opposite attraction in this story. Great read
This was amazing!!!
Spencer use to go by Spike but started to see a life after Zenith the band. He is always so serious and hard to read and not trusting at all of others. He works odd jobs to make a living since he ran away at 13 years Old. The thing is there is one woman who has made him see a little more of himself and see that there are good woman in the world. Erica isn’t really into flashy things. She lives in a condo and has money and is a successful doctor. She has gone through a few bad relationships that have torn her down and wondering if it’s just her that it the reason why they don’t work out. She wants to have a family and get married but doesn’t think she’ll find someone. Erica sees spike again but doesn’t really know who he is and things just click for them even tho Spencer isn’t an easy guy to handle or understand. Will these two ever see a future or will the past year them apart? You’ve got to read this book.
This book is a fantastic mix of romance with some suspense. It was a delight to read Erica and Spenser’s story. While this book can be read as a stand alone, it is a great sequel to the first book and I’m looking forward to seeing what Rob does when he gets his own story in book 3.
This book was SO much better than the first one in the series. Erica is a kind, good-hearted person through and through, while Spencer is a callous, selfish jerk with a heart of gold hiding under his (justified) anger and bitterness at what life threw his way. Erica helps Spencer find the ability to truly care for another without feeling inferior, while Spencer gives Erica grief and caring through protection before handing over his heart. I had a few “he is SUCH a jerk, ditch him already” moments in this book, but the ending was worth the angst. Erica and Spencer manage to find their way, even if it does take some drama to get to their HEA.
Unfortunately, I would recommend reading Zenith Falling first to completely understand Erica and Spencer, but this book more than made up for the less than stellar story of Joelle and Nick.
Once again Leanne Davis takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride. She really knows how to tug on your heart strings and make your heart sink to your stomach. How to make you want to make life easier for her characters! Loved this book
This book has angst and happiness and every emotion inbetween. You will equal parts love Spencer and want to give him a cuddle and want to slap him to give him a wake up. He expects nothing good in life so when the sexy, smart and accomplished Dr Erica shows interest he is distrustful it will go anywhere but down so he fights his attraction with cutting remarks and hurtful observations.
When danger comes at Erica he is forced to step in and help.
While i enjoyed this book there were a few unanswered questions that i would have liked wrapped up.
Erica and Spencer’s story wow what can I say I am a emotional basket case! What Spencer went through when we was just 13 and why he wouldn’t let love in! Erica aka the doc can she change spencer and let love in?
