Zeke, co-owner of Grimm’s Bar and Grill, he shared his success by working as a cook at the local homeless shelter. A Heroes at Heart novel. These men, raised in the loving foster home by the benevolent Miss Ethel, discovered there lies a hero in all of us. Based loosely on the fairy tale, Cinderella.

Zeke is a delightful twist on Cinderella that is captivating and enchanting
At every turn this modern day romantic suspense with heavy emphasis on the romance, Maryann Jordan weaves elements of the classic fairytale into the story. There’s a formal fundraiser in lieu of a ball, some strappy high-heeled sandals instead of glass slippers and a not so charming prince just to name a few. For Zeke, Cynthia called to him almost from first glimpse. The attraction is mutual on her part but a couple wrong assumptions coupled with a misunderstanding have her putting him squarely into the friend category. Cynthia felt the same but given her circumstances she doesn’t feel that she is deserving of his attention. It takes work to win her over and to Zeke, it’s well worth because he’s all in. All of Miss Ethel’s “boys” and their women are there to help these two settle into the relationship they deserve.
Positively enchanting. A wonderfully written book.
Oh my gosh. This will put book will have your heart overflowing with love for Miss Ethel and the six foster boys she raises. As she pours her tender love and care into each one of them they suck it up and become the men that she knows that they will be. A beautiful story with characters who never give up and always look for the best in everything. Excellent storytelling proving that family doesn’t always come from blood. I loved the love story between Zeke and Cynthia.
5 “Champion” Stars
I truly enjoy Maryann Jordan’s writing style and the Heroes at Heart series is definitely a favorite of mine. While it is best read along in the series, in my opinion this book could be read as a standalone.
I think my favorite parts in the books from this series are the first few chapters. Seeing the H’s younger years really helps round out the character and make me appreciate their journey.
Zeke was a wonderful Alpha who really showed Cynthia patience and care. I always love scenes involving Miss Ethel, too. Another great addition to the series.
Zeke and Cynthia seem so special to me. I think it’s the unusual way that they meet. Zeke has no judgement in Cynthia. It was so sweet to see. Some suspense and drama along the way to their HEA. Looking forward to Cas.
Cinderella is my favorite fairy tale!!
Cynthia lost her mom when she was young. Her father remarried and brought 2 stepsisters with it. He passed a couple of years later. When Cynthia was 18, they kicked her out.
Cynthia finds herself having to use the services of the shelter.
Zeke volunteers at the shelter fixing breakfast. Him and Zander are also in the process of opening another Grimm’s which he will run. He decides to stop by the shelter and see if he has everything he needs when he sees a woman come in.
Cynthia works as a housekeeper at the hotel and has been offered a position as a receptionist for a month. The boss’s assistant is not happy about it. She has moved into a room at Miss Ethel’s. Her and Zeke have gotten very close.
When she gets in trouble, will Zeke be able to get to her in time?
I fell in love with Zeke as the book opened, and his character just grew and grew. This has become one of my must-buy series; who can resist men that are so literate? His compassion and grace are evident throughout as well, and his behavior at the shelter, when Cynthia mistakes him for a resident, shows his lack of ego. And then there’s Cynthia – resilient, courageous, and compassionate – a woman that has lost almost everything but her self-respect and that is determined to make a go of her life. There couldn’t be a better match for Zeke, and the Cinderella scene is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. I recommend a one-click on this.
I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
I sank into my comfy reading spot and couldn’t put this book down. This book has everything you want in this series. The family, love, heart, heat and a couple of surprises. Loosely based on Cinderella I definitely think it is one you will enjoy. I received a free copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a review
One more reason for us to believe that Fairy Tails really can come true. I love the Heroes at Heart Series because not only do they keep us glued to every page, there is always some life lesson we can learn from what happens to the characters in each story. In Zeke’s case, he meets Cynthia, a real life Cinderella whom he meets in a Homeless Shelter. Cynthia is a reminder for each of us that any one of us could end up like her due to circumstances beyond our control. Their love slowly grows and while there are definitely some steamy scenes, this is just an all-around feel-good book that should appeal to anyone. While this is the 7th book in the series, I hope there are still more stories and life lessons that Maryann Jordan will write about. I am not ready to end this series!
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest and totally voluntary review.
I just finished reading this book from Maryann Jordan and it was an amazing story from the very beginning! This story is a standalone book, but the other books in this series are just as captivating as this one. The characters are well developed, interesting, and the dynamic between them is captivating! I couldn’t put it down once I started reading it, their story just drew me in. Another fantastic book by Maryann Jordan!
Zeke finally has his story in the Heroes at Heart series and what a story it is! Zeke is everything a good man and hero should be, kind, loving, protective and strong. The unbreakable bond between Zeke, his brothers and Miss Ethel is wonderful to see. Then along comes Cynthia, down on her luck, but not in spirit and determination, who captures Zeke from his first glance. Adding in a little suspense and a whole lot of loving makes this a must read!
I was privileged to receive an ARC of this book, but my review is my own and I have, of course, pre-ordered my own copy.
I love this story so much! Zeke is the seventh book in the Heroes at Heart series. Each book is a complete standalone but all are connected by Miss Ethel and her foster sons.
“He can see how far he has come when he looks backward, but only he determines how to live as he goes forward.”
Zeke arrived at his foster home expecting everyone to judge him by his father’s deeds, but ends up thriving as his own person, learning to rely on and be relied on by his foster family.
“I love you, too.”
Hearing those words, he pulled her tighter, his heart soaring with the knowledge that they were moving forward…in love.”
This story is a bit of a take on the fairytale Cinderella. Cynthia has fallen on tough times after a series of knock downs, but she is a hard worker and is doing her best to pull herself up.
“You not only taught me the true meaning of strength,” he said, “but also the true meaning of love.”
Miss Ethel definitely raised amazing swoony heroes with hearts of gold. This series is a favorite of mine and I only wish there were more than 8 brothers!!
-5 Stars-

Raised in the foster home of Miss Ethel her boys have grown to be wonderful , caring and companionate men true heros .
Zeke finds himself captivated by the beautiful and strong Cynthia Ellison .
Soon they become friends and Zeke and miss Ethel step in to help Cynthia out . This story is truely a beautiful and emotional story . The characters are fantastic . I highly recommend taking the time to read this story and enjoy
A very sweet story of romance in today’s modern life. Zeke and Cynthia are so great together both are loving hard working people who at one time or another needed help.Zeke went to live with Ms Ethel when he was younger and that’s where he learned what it was like to have brothers and a family. Now on top of having a very successful business with his brother, he volunteers at the homeless shelter. Cynthia ends up at the shelter after having no place to live. She’s determined to make it and tries to keep a positive attitude.
It makes your heart soar has you see the love grow between Zeke and Cynthia.
In seeing those two together it also gives you hope that anything is possible..
A tale loosely based on Cinderella. Cynthia has lost so much and ends up in a shelter where Zeke volunteers. We 1st meet Zeke at the age of 13 where circumstances find him moving in with Miss Ethel and her family of foster sons. This story will tug at your heart and shows that through love, hard work and drive you can come out of your circumstances a winner.
A heart felt tale of 2 people that have felt loss early in the lives and choose to overcome that with positivity and helping others that are down on their luck. Loved that Zeke and Cynthia were able to overcome doubts and fears to find a love that warms the heart and not let those with prejudices ruin their lives.
As always Maryann Jordan delivers. This is Zeke’s and Cynthia’s story.
This is a book with love, laughs, tears, compassion and a little suspense.
It gives a good feeling, it makes you want to be friends with all of this group.
Miss Ethel is as always their guide in the background, I wish I had such a person in my life.
Cynthia seeks assistance at the homeless shelter after medical expenses. Zeke a local businessman helps with breakfast at the shelter and meets Cynthia. As he becomes aware of Cynthia’s circumstances he introduces her to his mom, Miss Ethel and brothers.
It was refreshing to revisit the wonderful characters that became a family through Miss Ethel’s loving home.
Zeke
The Heroes At Heart Series
Maryann Jordan
A sweet romance, a touch of suspense, and two characters, Zeke and Cynthia who are drawn together from the beginning. Hearts entwine as Cynthia tries to come back from a homeless situation with the help of Zeke.
Working at the hotel Cynthia becomes involved with a packet of money and a note left behind in the room safe.
Once again Maryann Jordan has created the perfect heroine to fit one of Miss Ethel’s boys. A Cinderella story with a fairy godmother who brings about a happy ever after.
As always Maryann Jordan has written another Hero for us all to fall in love with. Zeke Kemp is the next to youngest son of Miss Ethel and what a beautiful story he got. This series is winding down but yet this family keeps growing.
Cynthia has fallen on some hard times. Her story is as close to ‘Cinderella’ as one could be. I being up in the homeless shelter wasn’t how things were planned but she just might have been able to find her prince during her hard time.
We follow as these two get to know each other, we follow as these two fall in love and we watch as they navigate their lives.
A little mystery, fun times with family, we watch as the family comes together and helps one another. I think that is one of my favorite parts of this series is the live they have for one another as family.
Highly recommended
*I was given a free advanced copy of the book by the author in exchange for my honest and voluntary review.-*
This talented author once again gives us a thought provoking story. This time, the story belongs to Zeke Kemp. He is one of the foster “boys” Miss Ethel took in, giving all of them a secure home filled with love and wonderful sayings.
Zeke meets Cynthia Ellison when she arrives at a homeless shelter. Both unaware that the meeting would change their lives.
While the story is engaging, the characters complex and we get a chance to spend time with the individuals we met in previous stories, the story is more than that.
This story reminds us that life is fragile. That one incident in our lives can change the future. Illness caused Cynthia’s homelessness. Others might end up in that situation due to abuse, a veteran returning to find he can’t get a job etc. Who are we to judge a homeless person. Wouldn’t it be better to lend a hand?
This is another wonderful story in this series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
