A Heroes at Heart novel. These men, raised in the loving foster home by the benevolent Miss Ethel, discovered there lies a hero in all of us. Based loosely on the fairy tale, Cinderella.

A real Cinderella story, it has the heartbreak, the wicked stepmother and stepsisters. Even a version of a ball but not quite. Mostly it has kind people who fall in love and a large family not of blood who instantly accept her into their mix. Zeke is sensitive never thought he would find someone who loved him and wanted him this is not just Cynthia’s fairy tale but his as well, I’m so glad they get their HEA
Zeke Kemp came to Miss Ethel when he was older. Most of her boys came to her when there were under the age of 10 but Zeke was 13. His mother walked out on him when he was 11 and his father was a fierce man with a love of fighting. He taught his son to fight and it lead him to getting into trouble at school. Zeke’s dad got arrested and that’s how Zeke came to be with Miss Ethel. He was immediately accepted by his new “brothers” and he became really close to Zander.
Zeke developed a love of cooking from Miss Ethel and he continued that as he went into the Army as a cook. He got out an joined Zander in his bar named Grimm’s. He started as a bouncer and then after a year of slowly working on Zander he convinced him to add a kitchen and he became the chef and eventually Zander’s partner.
Zeke also cooked breakfast for the homeless shelter he volunteered his time to. It was there that he met Cynthia for the first time. He was captivated from the moment he first laid eyes on her. She was down on her luck and she needed a place to stay and save her money. She works as a housekeeper for a prestigious hotel.
Things begin to look up for her after meeting Zeke and she is promoted albeit temporarily but she comes to realize that she has found her prince and she wants what he has to offer. Her job isn’t what it seems and she realizes that she wants her prince and the life he has to offer her. Cynthia is honest, hardworking, genuine, and even though she had a tough life she never let it change her. She stayed true to herself. She is a wonderful addition to the family that Miss Ethel created when she took in her first foster child.
I loved this story as it was based loosely on Cinderella. Ms. Jordan writes about alpha men who are strong, independent, loyal, loving men that were raised by their foster mom, Miss Ethel. She has created a family for them and they for her. I loved Zeke from the beginning of the story and Cynthia is his perfect match. Ms. Jordan picks names for her character very carefully and it just adds to the story she weaves. Of course the story would not be complete without apropos quotes from classical literature and poems. Add Miss Ethel’s advice and he uncanny ability to predict the future if you will and you have a romantic love story that I enjoyed very much. Ms. Jordan has the ability to write a story that sucks you in and holds you to the very end.
A beautiful story, a modern-day fairytale (Cinderella). Wonderful characters that are very supportive when needed. This is the seventh book in the series but can be read as a stand-alone. Zeke Kemp sees Cynthia Ellison at her lowest, but he sees the strength underneath. A well-written book that keeps the reader’s attention.
A family of foster boys brought together by the love of Miss Ethel. Her wisdom and love made them into the family they needed.
A beautify Cinderella story with a lon-haired, tattooed alpha male prince and a beautiful homeless princess. If it weren’t for bad luck, Cynthia would have had no luck at all – until she met Zeke. What a beautiful romance. I loved it!
This is book 7 in the Heroes at Heart series and it features Zeke and Cynthia. A lot of us are a step or two away from a homeless shelter. This is where Zeke meets Cynthia. His own Cinderella. It’s not lost on me that he had a fascination with the various tales of the Cinderella story when he was younger. She’s had it rough and needs a fresh start. She also needs protection. These two just click and as always, Miss Ethel seems to be everyone’s fairy godmother.
This story line was good but not too exciting. There wasn’t much action. The romance was sweet and I absolutely LOVE any interaction we have with Miss Ethel. She definitely brings the magic to the series.
A little bit of Cinderella to wake up the fairy tale in all of us. The seventh book in Heroes of the Heart will grab your heart and take you on an emotional roller coaster. you can’t help but love Miss Ethel for the wonderful woman she is and the family she has created with all of her ‘children’. This is Cynthia and Zeke’s story and one of the best so far. Well written with strong, likable characters and an emotional story. It grabbed my attention right at the beginning and kept it until the end. Beautifully written and engaging. A great read that you will enjoy. Maryann Jordan has another winner and definitely doesn’t disappoint with Zeke. I read an arc copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.
I loved Zeke & Cynthia’s story! I love this series, though, so really no surprise. All of the heroes I’ve read so far have such beautiful hearts (appropriate for the name of the series!). Zeke is full of confidence when it comes to his ability in the kitchen, and in his new business venture w/ Zander, but when it comes to Cynthia, he’s a little shy & tongue-tied & it’s super sweet. Cynthia gets the wrong idea about Zeke early on, but the misunderstanding is quickly resolved & they embark on a very sweet & moving relationship journey. There’s a little bit of a mystery going on, as well, and I enjoyed the read!!
: )
Maryann Jordan gives us another sweet modern fairy tale, this one loosely based on Cinderella. There is one thing that makes these Heroes at Heart books so special and that is Ms Ethel. She taught these boys now men what it means to be a family, to love, to enjoy literature, and how to treat a lady.
Zeke meets Cynthia at a low moment in her life. He wants nothing more that to protect and help her. Zeke to me was probably the softest and kindest of the Heroes. I so loved him. This is a great modern tale of Cinderella. Absolutely adored this book.
I had never read any of the Heroes at Heart books by Maryann Jordan before but after reading Zeke I can say that I am definitely a fan! Even though this story is deep into the series it stood alone and I had no issues understanding the relationship between the previous characters. Zeke was a sweetheart throughout this story. He has spent the majority of his life with his foster brothers (since he was 13) and is dedicated to them, his business and his foster mother. His brothers have been lucky to meet some fabulous women and he wasn’t against a relationship happening for him but no one special had come his way until the day Cynthia walked into the homeless shelter where he volunteers. Cynthia is a wonderful young woman that has had a series of bad breaks in her life. Her beloved mother passed away when she was young, her father remarried a woman who didn’t care for her and when her father passed away asked Cynthia to leave the house. She had no formal education and became one of the many working poor. She is a housekeeper at an exclusive hotel but was barely making ends meet when she became ill and was then saddled with large medical expenses and lost her place to live. I love that Cynthia never became bitter at the cards life dealt her but kept moving forward. She noticed Zeke right away but thought with all that she has going on in her life that he would never be interested in someone like her. So Cynthia’s story is a bit of a Cinderella story with some twists and turns. Their story was told from dual POV and is sweet, spicy and there are a few surprises thrown in involving Cynthia’s job. Enjoy!
This is the 7th book in the series Heroes at Heart, loosely based on the Grimm’s fairy tales. Each book focuses on a different foster brother, each with their own HEA. Sweet, sexy and heartwarming to read.
I loved the way this book started with a look into the past when Zeke first arrives at Miss Ethel’s. It progresses into his school years and his love for the Cinderella story, all of them not just the ‘Disney’ version.
In the present we see Zeke and Zander as they prepare to venture into opening a second Grimm’s. They’ve found the perfect location for it and things will start moving quickly.
After announcing their news at dinner at Miss Ethel’s Zeke hangs back from leaving sensing she wants to speak with him. I love Miss Ethel’s wisdom and this is one of my favorite scenes.
If you are reading this series you will recall Asher is very active with the homeless, particularly one shelter. Zeke has made it a habit to prepare breakfast at this shelter before heading into Grimm’s for meal prep there. After visiting with Miss Ethel, Zeke heads to the shelter to see if he needs to bring in anything for the next day’s breakfast.
If you are reading this series you will recall Asher is very active with the homeless, particularly one shelter. Zeke has made it a habit to prepare breakfast at this shelter before heading into Grimm’s for meal prep there. After dinner and a chat with Miss Ethel, Zeke heads to the shelter to see if he needs to bring in anything for the next day’s breakfast.
Cynthia arrived at the shelter late, and drenched from the rain and nervous. She had never been to a shelter, but it was much safer than the alternatives. When Zeke moves to help her with her bags, he realizes he’s a stranger would be scaring her, but there’s an attraction he can’t refute.
I love the way this story progresses, it’s a slow building romance where trust needs to be built, and leads to some sizzling heat.
This is the newest release in the Heroes at Heart series and while I would absolutely read the previous books first just because of how good they are, this one can be read as a stand alone and still understand everything in it. In this one we get Zeke’s story which is loosely based on the story Cinderella. Cynthia works hard every day but unexpected medical expenses made her lose her home and she ends up in a homeless shelter until she can get back on her feet. Zeke helps out at the shelter almost on a daily basis. And when he see’s Cynthia come in-he feels an instant attraction. And wants to help her if he can. And their friendship leads them to find the love that they weren’t looking for but they both truly want. And when something happens that neither expect, it truly shows them what the true fairytale is.
I absolutely loved this one! Not only does this story show just how hard people can work every single day and have that one thing that will knock them-it also shows how much people will look down on them when it happens. Everyone has struggles every single day that most people just don’t care about but they judge anyway not even realizing how much it can hurt someone. Cynthia is this hardworking woman who just wants to be able to live and be happy but she also has this beautiful soul and she isn’t afraid to jump in and help when she feel’s it’s needed. Zeke is this big, tough man who went through something horrible as a child but he learned not only from Miss Ethel but from his brothers on how a real man acts. And he is beyond a beautiful human being. I loved them both!
Never have I read a more beautiful heartfelt series. Zeke has a heart of gold and is truly a prince.
Zeke meets Cynthia at the homeless shelter where he helps feed the residents. He feels an instant connection. She’s beautiful inside and out. The more time he spends with her the more he realizes that she’s the one that he’s been looking for. His princess.
I love that Zeke waited patiently while Cynthia made her own choices.
This is such a positive uplifting story with a strong unbreakable family bond. And Miss Ethel, I can’t say enough about her. She’s the glue that holds her family together.
I can’t wait to see what Maryann has in store for Cas!
“I voluntarily received this arc book for an honest review”
Wow what a fabulous book. This had so much emotion in it it broke my heart at times. This couple had so much love between them it was palpable. I love catching up with all the guys and their girls. This an amazing series, it’s full of true life hardships but shows how they overcome difficult odds. I cannot wait for the next book. Great series.
Zeke Heroes at Heart book 7 was one fabulous book from the talented Maryann Jordan. This story has drama, suspense, family love and a lot of heart. The characters are so beautifully written and the storyline flowed so well. I absolutely loved this book it kept me hooked from the first page til the end. This is Zeke and Cynthia story these two characters just captured my heart and kept ahold of it throughout the whole story, they were so darn lovable. Zeke is volunteering at the local homeless shelter and is a little intrigued by a young woman who happens to come in when he is there. Cynthia is working at a local hotel but falls on hard time and losses her housing so she winds up at the shelter. This is where this story will definitely keep you hooked.
I want to share so much but don’t want to give anything away so I will leave you with this, I highly recommended this book, a must read and one story you don’t want to miss.
I simply adore Zeke and Cynthias story, if you want a storyline that captures your heart, then you have the right book. In fact you need this series.
I love anything Maryann Jordan but this series based loosely on fairy tales is up there as one of my favs. Highly recommend. I love Miss Ethel and her love for her “boys”. I struggled to put this book down and do my normal life things because it was so freaking good and there was a line in the book that just grabbed me. Cynthia mentioned she wanted to sleep with him around her like a warm shield protecting her. Great sentence and what every woman wants from the love of their life.
Another great read in the Heroes at Heart series! This story just warmed my heart so much! Ms. Jordan has once again given us a hero that is as much sweet as he is swoony. Zeke is such an awesome character. And Cynthia’s character is so strong! After everything she’s gone through, she makes the best of it and keeps moving forward. I just want to hug her and be her friend! Her and Zeke are just perfect for each other. I hope this series never ends!
Oh this book!
Maryann has some it again with this series. Each book gets better and better!
I love the chemistry between the characters and their journey
