Anya – kidnapped from Earth and thrown into a cell on an alien spaceship.
Zar – a slave all his life, the last thing he needs is a female thrown at him.
An innovative plot.
Worlds, people, and races that you can imagine and believe in from the start.
Two entirely different cultures colliding and not only finding common ground but love.
I cried at one point.
The characters and situations made me laugh and cry and wanting only the best for them through all of the hardships that they had to endure to get their happily ever after.
An outstanding introduction to the Gladiator series.
Highly recommended.
The cover caught me, the flap text made me curious and the reviews were promising and it became a one-click book – I have not regretted it, delicious entertainment with suspense, fun some darkness and in everything very convincing
Unexpected, interesting story, credible characters and the beginning of an exciting adventure – I liked it very much and it entertained me wonderfully – now I want to read Shadow’s story right away.
SciFi adventure with romance and action and some darkness – abysses and infinite vastness of space.
This book was very enjoyable. I liked that the author didn’t dive too deep on the trauma that was going on but gave it enough focus to be realistic. I love Zar’s character and really have enjoyed seeing him pop up in the later books.
Highly recommend.
Zar…I just loved him. He has lived the life of a slave/gladiator and knows nothing else. He goes through the motions with no hope of something better but along comes an abducted female that needs and wants him. She gives him the longing to be more and to have more from despair to love. Zar and Anya are an exceptional couple, and the action in this book made me devour it way too fast.
OH, you are gonna like this book if you like aliens and romance. I know I loved it. The characters were great and I loved the world building. There is a good story in this book. There are adult scenes so not for the younger audience. I would recommend this book.
I almost didn’t read it but I’m so glad I did!
At first I was like, is this some kind of freaky bestiality book? But I read a little bit more and then I couldn’t put it down. The was she brought the story together was great. Next thing I knew, I got the next couples story and the next.
This is not your average alien smut. It is much much better. Sensual, emotional and oddly realistic in a cruel and as well a beautiful way. Worldbuilding, storytelling and character creation at it´s best.
A really talented author. So talented I suffered listening to bad audio just to have this story read to me. Which never happens. I am the first person to start whining when the audio isn´t perfect. Just ask Audible. The story is so good that at one point I had even convinced myself the narrator was good. Sure sign of hallucinations due to intense need to keep on listening to the story. My first book by this author, am already on the second book in the series. Highly recommend.
Lion warrior and lady who leads
Zar, the leonine alien slave is a fierce gladiator with repressed emotions and no hope. Anya is a human woman kidnapped into slavery. They are forced to breed but end up caring for one another, and that breaks the dam of Zar’s withdrawal and Anya’s passivity. Together they ignite and lead the rebellion that will either destroy them or free them. It’s a suspenseful and super-hot sexy romance with a HFN finish and a promised sequel. Highly entertaining.
Loved Zar and Anya! Zar is a slave gladiator and Anya is a human slave, they are forced to have sex or be killed. Zar and Anya start to fall for each other and plan to escape with the other captives. Alana Khan does a great job with the story line and all the characters.
I love this book so much that when I saw it on audio I bought it and listened to it all over again, it also spurred me on the buy the 2nd book in Audio. You just don’t get a better hero than Zar what a sweet, alpha, sexy man.
A great first in series. The hero and heroi e are both strong, interesting characters.
I really enjoyed Anya and Zar’s story. Anya is strong and maybe a bit too resilient considering her circumstances, but I liked her determination and empathy. Zar is appropriately alpha, strong, and sexy, but I also appreciated his vulnerability and kindness. The world building is great and there is plenty of action, steamy scenes, and an HEA.
AT THIS MOMENT I CAN SEE NO ESCAPE, NO PATHWAY TO SAFETY, NO WAY HOME.
THE BLURB
In the span of about an hour, I’ve been kidnapped by aliens, collared, chipped, and thrown into a tiny cell with a lion-man. An angry, feral, alpha lion-man who’s still staring me down.
Anya’s life goes haywire fast. One minute she’s at home asleep, and the next she’s in a cell with Zar; an alien gladiator. She knows that she probably won’t be able to get home to Earth again, but that doesn’t mean she’s willing to be a slave for the rest of her life.
Zar’s lived most of his life as a slave, forced to fight in the gladiator games. He’s lost hope, and focuses on living day by day. So why does this small human Anya capture his attention? He knows that such a weak species wouldn’t be able to survive in space for long. Is that why he wants to protect her so much?
TONE OF THE BOOK
Zar falls within a neutral to negative tone. The novel definitely focuses on the more serious side of life rather than a light-hearted adventure.
The characters face a number of hardships including non-consensual sex. Whilst they try to stay up beat and positive, Alana Khan does emphasise that they are not living in ideal situations and this carries across in the tone and atmosphere of the book.
SENSITIVE TOPICS
Zar is a romance novel aimed at mature readers.
There are numerous sex detailed scenes throughout the book. It’s very important to note for some readers that some sex scenes are non-consensual.
The novel also has numerous scenes of enslavement (they are slaves after all), and death through combat.
SERIES SYNOPSIS
Zar is the first novel in a 13 book series known as the Galaxy Gladiators, with several shorter novellas exploring character’s backstories in more depth. Each novel focuses on a different couple, ending in a Happily Ever After. There are no cliffhangers, albeit the world plot continues to move forward sometimes unanswered with lingering tension.
This book is 200 pages long, making it slightly shorter than your average romance novel (300 pages average).
REVIEW
I don’t hate her like I’ve hated the others. But lack of hate does not make this a relationship.
In the romance novel Zar, Alana Khan has explored a rather interesting and complex dynamic relationship between multiple slaves. As with all happily ever after romances, the characters will fall in love. The pearl of Zar is the growing and changing relationship between the characters; there is no true or insta-love between the hero and heroine.
Despite the story being set entirely in one location, Alana Khan has done an excellent job of hinting at a large and explorable universe. Each character within the space ship has a unique background, and is a seperate species.
FINAL WORD
Zar was an interesting read. The characters’ personalities outside of the heroes fell a bit short and I would have loved a bit more interaction, however the world building is solid and looks to be an interesting start to a new series.
Really good storytelling. I was hooked from the first page. It is a stand alone but the saga continues and that makes me happy. I want to find out how Shadow finds his happy place. The author’s world building was really good. I usually cringe when I start reading the work of a new-to-me author. I really hate dumb, hysterical leading ladies I wish I could slap around and throw out to space. I really loved loved this leading lady. Anya was super focused and levelheaded. Made the story all the better.
Rated R. Couldn’t Read It.
This book’s plot was very different from any I have read before. The story grabbed me right from the beginning and I just had to see how things played out. You will enjoy the diverse characters as they struggle free themselves from slavery. I promise you will be cheering them on before you know it.
This is a great first book in the series. All the characters are different, but still pull you in and make you want to hear about all their different backgrounds and what brought them on the ship. It’s not hard to fall in love with everyone, no matter how fiesty or standoffish they may seem. I’m so glad that I found these books and eagerly await for the next one to come out!
*WARNING* contains explicit adult sexual situations
Zar was born into captivity, into slavery. Zar feels like the walking dead, he can’t afford emotions, he learned to lock them away a very long time ago. Zar has accepted the fights, but he is tired of being forced to breed.
Anya went to sleep in her own bed and woke up on a cold floor staring at feet. Anya never believed in aliens, but she does now.
This is such a great story. Anya is a strong female lead, not strength wise, but in the sense that she never gives up. The description of Zar was good enough to provide a visual picture. The story started out as a nightmare, but turned into something beautiful. I enjoyed this one alot. I will be reading Shadow’s story in book two soon.
