Zander. Serious to a fault, he had no time for anything other than focusing on running his bar, Grimm’s. Until he saw her… and pushed her away… right into danger.Racked with guilt over what happened, he could not stay away from her hospital room. Hoping Sleeping Beauty could hear him and know that he was near. What started as guilt, became so much more. But, when Rosalie awoke, would she remember … awoke, would she remember the night he pushed her away? Or just remember the man who rescued her?
A Heroes at Heart novel. These men, raised in the loving foster home by the benevolent Miss Ethel, discovered there lies a hero in all of us. Based loosely on the fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty.
Themes, language, and adult situations are similar to an R-rated movie. For 18+ years.

Maryann Jordan has outdone herself again. She knows how to bring her characters to life. I fell in love with Zander in chapter one. I really enjoyed how simple he was. Just a normal man with a very caring heart. The connection between Zander & Rosalie was magical. If you are in the mood to read a heartwarming story, make sure it is this book. You will not be disappointed.
I read Miss Ethel’s story first and I’m glad that I did because it meant I already knew something of this group of men, the love and family bond they all had for each other and Miss Ethel. The strong ethics she had instilled in them, the manners and caring. For Zander to do what he did and the guilt that followed initially was meant to be for her own safety, unfortunately that went wrong but he did what he could to right that. This is a love story and I really enjoyed that it was loosely based on Sleeping Beauty, it fitted with Zander and his absolute love of these stories, even as an adult. This is moving, sentimental and romantic, it’s a story that reminded me of my first reading experiences and the love I had for those stories just like Zander.
Beautiful story with characters you’ll fall in love with.
This is my first book by MaryAnn Jordan but it will not be my last. I loved everything about this book. An amazing love between Zander and Rosalie that we can all hope to find.
Part of series, if you like alpha heroes with a brain.
This book was a gentle read. Zander and his “brothers” were raised by Miss E as fosters. They remain loyal to her and each returns to care for her. Zander, an avid reader thanks to Miss E, finds a beaten woman outside his bar one night and becomes her “guardian” as she remains in a coma. He reads to her and holds her hand. This is a love story with scary twists but a happy ending.
I thought the book was boring. I never finished it. Too much time spent in the hospital waiting for her to wake up. I lost interest.
Great characters in a really good book to read
I write so many reviews as I am an avid reader and I run out of new things to say. So this time I’ll just tell you I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend IT. Read it in one day.
I have enjoyed all Maryann Jordan books and this one is just as good.
This book is a perfect start to a new series. A beautiful store. Loved Zander and Miss Ethel is just brilliant.
Cant wait for the next book
When I learned the author was going to write modern day romances based on classic fairy tales, I admit I was a doubter. It couldn’t be done. She proved me wrong and let me be the one to admit it. You don’t have to like Sleeping Beauty to love this book.
The first of Maryann Jordan’s “Heroes at Heart” series, Zander has served his country and returned home to be near his foster mother, Miss Ethel. It was an emotional and mysterious read because I enjoyed watching his and Rosalie’s relationship blossom but kept waiting for the other shoe to fall.
Zander owns the bar where a severely beaten young woman is found in the alley behind the establishment. He feels responsible because thinking she was under-age, he ordered her to leave earlier that evening. When they cannot identify her and no one reports her missing, he feels compelled to visit daily and read classic tales to her.
I liked the correlation with the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale Maryann wove throughout the book, down to the name of Zander’s bar – Grimm’s. I especially appreciated the protective and nurturing love Zander, his foster brothers and Miss Ethel shared as they helped Rosalie remember her past and face the psychopath that tried to kill her.
I look forward to reading about Zander’s foster brothers in the rest of the “Heroes at Heart” series.
Jayden is the first of the Heroes at Heart that I have read and I absolutely adored Jayden and his brothers. Jayden is the epitome of the strong protective male when he meets Ruby and wants to help her. At first she finds it difficult to accept his help but they gradually grow closer. Jayden and Ruby are a sweet couple and he works hard to make her realize how strong she actually is. The interactions between all of the brothers and their women are fun to read about and make me want to read more of this series. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this story.
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the the novel Zander: Heroes at Heart by Maryann Jordan and this review was given freely.
A steamy romance with lots of violence, a brotherhood of alpha males, and their wonderful foster mother. Owner of Grimm’s Bar Zander King meets Rosalie when a jealous psychopath leaves her for dead outside his bar. As he watches over her her, their feelings turn to love only for Rosalie to be attacked again.
I adore the start of this new series. Maryann Jordan’s characters are inspirational. Zander is a regular guy who happens to have been brought up by Miss Ethel. She’s an inspirational lady who fostered many boys until they were able to support themselves. Zander and his brothers each enlisted into the army. As they returned to civilian life they all stayed very close tho. Rosalie was a perfect match for Zander. Her story is heartbreaking and she needs Zander even tho she doesn’t realise it at the time. What follows is a beautiful love story. Can’t wait for the next book now
This is a fun read full of emotion. Zander was a good character who we got a lot of back story throughout the book of his foster home and the other boys who became brothers. Rosalie was also a great character and it was wonderful to see her recovery after a vicious attack. I fell in love with these characters. It was a wonderful story and I will be looking at the other books in this series.
I really liked this book. The initial incident was tragic but how it handled was so touching!!!!
I love the way maryann writes. I had read all her books.
Loved this read! Great story and characters!
Wonderful book about the foster care system.
