New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett goes for a hat trick with the latest romance in a sexy series about cool-as-ice hockey players and the women heating up their lives.
Warning: The following contains spoilers from a cliffhanger in Garrett.
Rising star Zack Grantham has been stuck in a downward spiral of grief that has put his career on hold. Back on the road with the Carolina Cold … hold. Back on the road with the Carolina Cold Fury, still crippled by emotional baggage, and now a single dad, he’s in need of some serious help with his son. But while the nerdy new nanny wins his son’s heart, Zack isn’t sure he’s ready for a woman’s touch — even after getting a glimpse of the killer curves she’s hiding under those baggy clothes.
Kate Francis usually keeps men like Zack at a distance. Though his athlete’s body is honed to perfection, he refuses to move on with his life — and besides, he’s her boss. Still, the sparks between them are undeniable, tempting Kate to turn their professional relationship into a personal one. But before she makes a power play for Zack’s wounded heart, Kate will have to open him up again and show him that love is worth the fight.

Zack is the third book in the Cold Fury Hockey series and it is an emotional roller coaster ride. In the second book, Garrett, we learn that Gina, Zack’s girlfriend was killed in an automobile accident and left Zack with a broken wrist and raising his son alone. It has been four long months since the accident and all Zack wants it to feel something, anything except the guilt. When his sister hires a nanny for Ben, Zack doesn’t like her from the start. Kate walks into his life in clothes that are a few sizes too big for her and she is a total nerd. But Zack seems to be drawn to her. All Kate wants is to help him heal and care for Ben. When she realizes that she is drawn to him, it has to be her concern for his well-being. Then when Zack offers her a sex only relationship, she knows it won’t be easy but she can give him that. When he begins care for her, he pulls back. So can Kate help him to live again without losing her heart? Can Zack see that she can help him live again and she is good for Ben too? If you haven’t started this series yet, you should because you will love it. This story will rip your heart to pieces but Sawyer Bennett will put it back together and fill it with love for Zack. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for Ryker, which will be book 4. I love this series and hope you do too.

Great part of the Carolina hockey series
This is an emotionally driven journey to go on with Zack and Kate. Zack is grieving and feeling a lot of guilt, in walks this quirky, bubbly woman that turns his world upside down. I teared up, laughed, and thoroughly enjoyed this story.
So emotional but so good! Zack loses his long-time girlfriend and the mother of his son in a car accident in the previous book and Zack is in a spiral. Needing a nanny to help with Ben he hires Kate. She is not what you would expect but definitely what he needs. However, when he finally sees under her baggy clothes and chunky glasses his body wakes up and the chemistry between them is explosive. All he wants is sex and he keeps telling her that is all it is but will that be all it remains? Oh, these two are so cute and the roller coaster they are on is crazy. Definitely recommend this one!
Just finished this book. Loved it! Couldn’t put it down. Steamy and sweet love story.
Gotta love a Carolina Fury hockey player. Gotta love Sawyer Bennett. Her books are fantastic. This is a part of a series, but I really feel you could read this as a stand alone. We met Zack in a previous book. He is a hockey player who has just lost the mother of his child in a car accident. He is reeling. He needs help with his son, Ben. Kate has become the nanny for his child. She keeps herself hidden in baggy clothes. She has nothing, and she needs this job so she can afford to finish her degree. Zack sees the real Kate one night by accident. Sparks fly. They try this no strings attached relationship based on Zack’s demands. He really makes me mad at the way he treats her. She is one tough cookie. I felt every emotion that Kate felt as their relationship progressed. Lots of hot scenes to keep your fires burning. Dual point of view thank goodness or I really would have not liked Zack. No cliffhanger. However, there will be a book about goalie, Ryker coming soon.
I had this ARC for a while & couldn’t bring myself to read it because I was anticipating an emotional story. But Zack turned out a lot different than I thought, which is fine but it was definitely my least favorite of the series. It starts 4 months after the accident & Zack is getting ready to rejoin the Cold Fury. So there’s no out of control, guilt ridden (ok, there’s a little), acting out Zack. Which is different, a man that knows he needs to step up and be there for his child. He hires Kate to be Ben’s nanny and I don’t really need to explain what happens (because then there wouldn’t be a book
Zack Grantham had it all, his girl and baby boy, the career he always dreamed of until he lost his girl in an accident. Struggling to find the new normal, Zack agrees to hire a live in nanny. He questions his sisters choice when he meets Kate Francis, a quirky nerd who rambles and has a unique way of looking at things. For the first time since his girlfriend died, Zack feels something and it’s for Kate but he doesn’t know what to do with it.
Kate feels the mutual attraction for Zack, but does she want to enter into a relationship with a man who is sending mixed signals? Zack has made it clear though, no strings but as they grow closer even if just as friends, Kate’s feelings begin to get in the way and can Zack move past what he lost and start again?
This was one of those books that has you shed a few tears and then start laughing in the next moment. I felt for Zack, he is riddled with a lot of emotions where his past life and new life mesh. Loved Kate, she is a breath of fresh air and thoroughly enjoyed Zack’s son in this story, the interaction is priceless. Another excellent Sawyer Bennett read.
Love this series! Cannot wait to read the rest!
I never knew a man giving me whiplash and a major headache would be so entertaining. Zach is so much more moody and indecisive then any of the other men we’ve read about so far in this series, “she’s been in my house for all of five minutes at most, and she’s effing cooking breakfast in my kitchen.” He sometimes has to assure Kate on certain things, ” He gives me an immediately chastising look while trying to hide his grin. “Christ, Kate . . . I don’t give a effwhat your panties look like. I want to get to what’s underneath.” I mean he has to really try Kate is a hardheaded girl, “I’m hard as a effing rock for you right now. Trust me, I will not be turned off by your underwear.” Zack is bold, blunt and he’s not apologetic about it, “Christ,” he curses in anger, his hand going to his cock. With wide eyes, I watch as he strokes himself. “I’m so fucking horny right now.” He’s also primal and I found those times pretty sexy, “Christ . . . Kate says she’s never had a man go down on her before and I about blow my load right then and there.” What I didn’t find sexy was what he said to Kate at times or the times he treated her not so nicely I softened questioned why the girl just didn’t leave his a**, but as I said before the girl is hardheaded
Oh how much I loved Zack and all his heartbreak and guilt. In Sawyer’s book, we learn that Zack was in a bad car accident that left him injured, unable to play hockey, and his girlfriend and mother his child Gina had been killed in the car accident. Its clear from the start of the book that Zack is not coping very well. He needs a nanny to help take care of cute little Ben as Zack goes to playing hockey.
Zack’s sister hired Kate to be Ben’s nanny and I immediately loved her. She was not what Zack was expecting or hoping for. Kate is the most positive, quirky, and nerdy person ever and it gets on Zack’s nerves at first, but she slowly eases that apprehension and anger from Zack. I like that despite Kate’s humble unbringing, she is so genuine and down to earth. She is great with Ben and doesn’t take any of Zack’s crap. Which he happens to dish a lot of, taking his guilt for what happended to Gina and his feelings surrounding the accident out on Kate. And it was so hard not to like Zack. The reasons for his guilt broke my heart and his confusion over his growing feelings for Kate. I liked seeing how he transitioned from being a broody asshole to laughing and doing things with Kate. It was hard for him to keep things neutral with her, lines blurred, and got crossed.
This book was bittersweet and I couldn’t help but love Zack and Kate. I was happy he was able to find happiness again.
My favorite of the Cold Fury novel.
