Lovely and Inspiring Clean Western Romance
This is a heartwarming western romance of a lonely soldier and an abandoned baby and the woman who helps complete the family. Very enjoyable read. Highly recommend.
After losing everyone and everything important to him, Zach pours all his energy in a new Army career. Rescuing an abandoned baby changes his life in ways he never imagined, as did meeting Johanna. His faith has been tested, and continues to be tested. But trust in Johanna leads him back to his roots as he moves forward to love her and make their family. This book is well-written, with some Christian undertones and a heavy focus on family. It’s my first in this series, and I really enjoyed the story and history. A beautifully written story during the early settlement of Texas when some men would do anything to obtain land legally or otherwise. There were way more men in Texas than women and no one thought a woman could survive without a man. Sergeant Zach Armstrong had lost his entire family twenty years previously to the failings of white men escaping to the mountains to be raised by mountain men. He eventually joined the military becoming a career man on the frontier. There had been trouble on the Pecan Springs Ranch, which they had been called to earlier that morning, and their Indian Scout was back wanting him to go back out with him to check the site with him. What they found was the place had been attacked by white men killing the sheep herder and his wife but made to look like indians had done it. Everyone except the Sergeant returned to the Fort McKavett, but he had to remain on site for the ranch owner, Mrs. Johanna Gunter. In the meantime the Sergeant found the deceased couple’s three month old baby boy discarded in the bushes, which he was proceeding to clean up and take care of the baby when Johanna arrived. They were immediately attracted to each other, but they were not going to let that get in the way of their business. Johanna’s husband and oldest son had been murdered in a cattle rustling incident two years previously. She wanted to take the baby and the Sergeant would have nothing to do with that, but he did tell her there would be a meeting with the commander the next morning, she was more than welcome to attend. Everyone pretty much knew who was behind her problems, but it was proving it, that was a problem. The Sergeant and the fort doctor, Lieutenant Wentworth agreed to help her, but the commander, Major Voss did not want to hear her complaints about good men without evidence. The threats continued against Johanna and her family, but not all would be lost the sergeant’s reenlistment was due soon and Colonel Mackenzie, the regular commander was due back any day. This was an enjoyable read even if I did hold my breath a time or two as Zach negotiated the life of a single father on the frontier trying to provide milk for an infant and childcare. In the long-run he did a wonderful job. The condensed milk should have been diluted. I admired Johanna’s tactfulness in handling Zach in his stubbornness in taking care of the baby. They ended up rounding out each others edges perfectly.

The eleventh book in the Bachelors and Babies series a well written story of finding faith again. I enjoyed reading Johanna and Zach’s story and everything they go through with her family, friends, and the baby that brought them together while fighting off the villains that want everything they have. A loner soldier adopts an orphaned baby that brings him a real family, true love, and back to God.
This is the first book by Hebby Roman that I have read…The 11th book in Estrella Publishing’s “Bachelors and Babies” series and somewhat different from the typical historical western romance. Ms. Roman has crafted a pleasant skillfully written novel that was enlightening as well as entertaining. The tale includes great characters in a heartwarming plot with Christian overtones. It was an inspirational and thoroughly enjoyable read
While investigating the murder of two immigrant shepherds apparently killed by native hostiles, Sgt. Zach Armstrong finds the 2 month old son of the dead couple. With no living relatives, he decides that he will keep and raise him. He discovers that the shepherds’ employer, a widow, is also being threatened by her neighbors who are surely the ones who killed the couple to terrorize the widow into giving them her land. He pledges to help her, and they develop a relationship for each other. The story ends with Zach finding true love. getting a family, and rediscovering God.

This is an outstanding book. It’s a clean historical western romance that hooks you on the first page and doesn’t let go. It has action, suspense, drama, mystery and romance. I enjoyed every minute spent reading this book.
First, even though part of a group of books, this is a stand alone story. I enjoyed Zach and Johanna’s story very much. Their love for each other grew gradually. I loved the moments between baby Kurt and Zach also and how the author included even Zach getting peed on. I also like the historical information included by the author at the beginning and end of the book. Very informative.

Awesome western.
Sergeant Zacharias Armstrong is a man who has lost his faith joins the army and life now has a purpose and plan that is until he rescues a baby. Johanna Gunter would be happy to take the child, but Zach finds out that she has some major problems. His decision to help her is what will change his life completely. This was a quick read but not one that will disappoint it is a good story! I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.
I was in the mood for a good historical western read and this is perfect! This genre’ is my first love in reading although I enjoy many types of books; you can’t beat a good old-fashioned western. This author writes what is called “sweet and inspirational” books and this story-line didn’t miss the mark. The story is an intertwining of historical facts and fictional characters with ideas that make it special. A military Sergeant Zacharias “Zach” Armstrong was rescued and raised by mountain men. Although a quiet soul, he spent many years in the Army as an adult, learning tracking, fighting and saving communities. Then, he finds a baby hidden in tall grass and his heart takes a turn. There are many side stories in the book and I loved it. Thanks for a wonderful story.
I love this author’s writing. Her characters are real and the story so believable. She’s a super-author.
Another good story in the Bachlelor’s and Babies series.
I really loved this one where you have a widow and her two children on a ranch of sheep and not cattle, and her husbands has been killed. Then her ranch manager and his wife were killed and the only place around that can investigate their murders and her husbands, if the near by fort.
The fort sends out there training sergeant along with his troops he is training.
When they see what appears to Indians as the attackers, at closer look, they realize this was not Indians but set up to look like it was but it was not.
Now this sergeant wants to protect the window as it looks like someone is trying to chase her off her property. Plus, a baby is found at the scene and it turns out to be the child of the couple killed. Now the sergeant decides he wants this baby boy.
This is a really good story with so much going on in this story and an army sergeant, widow with two kids, a found baby and someone wanting to take over her ranch.
I highly recommend this story.
This was my first book by this author, but it won’t be my last. The story kept me engaged the entire time, and I didn’t want to put it down.
Hebby Roman never disappoints!!
The author has penned a story of loss and regaining lost faith. This is Zach and Johanna’s story.. This story is full of action including murder, kidnapping, mystery, lots of bad guys, a baby orphaned by his parents’ murder, and romance. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it. It is a real page turner.
