I love Lila Monroe’s romantic comedies, and I’m really enjoying the Chick Flick Club series. Clever titles playing on cult-classic romantic comedy films, these books follow a trio of best friends as they find love in the often disastrous, occasionally delicious San Francisco dating scene. These books are not simply the author’s spin on each story’s similarly titled movie, either. They’re all originally and creatively plotted, enemies-to-lovers romances.
Both food truck chefs specializing in brunch, Cam and Zoey’s relationship started out with more antagonism than attraction, though there definitely was that, too. In the cutthroat San Francisco food truck scene, there was an understanding among the different food truck owners not to horn in on each other’s spots. Only Cam, new to the scene, didn’t get the memo, but even worse was once Zoey educated him about their agreement, he simply didn’t care about their rules. He was in this business to build his name and chase his dream, but in trampling over the understanding amongst his peers, he was poaching more than eggs on his truck when he regularly pulled up next to Zoey to fight for the same customers. Thus began a back-and-forth, war of the roses style turf battle of pranks, not punches.
Monroe throws an interesting twist into their relationship that kind of changes everything, and I absolutely loved it. It didn’t matter if these two were taunting each other or tearing each other’s clothes off, their chemistry sizzled like the bacon in their respective frying pans. They bridged the gap from enemies to friends to lovers naturally and were well on their way to building something real and lasting when a huge food competition that they both want to win draws near, and they learn that they’re both finalists in the same category. But it’s not the fact that they’re competing against each other that threatens to derail everything that is building between them.
Monroe served up an amusing, entertaining romance here with a fun, flirty and fresh plot. Laugh-out-loud funny and fanning myself sexy, You’ve Got Male by Lila Monroe gets 4.5 smooches from me!

All’s fair in brunch and food truck wars?
It really sucks when your biggest rival and competition is so hot – and a good kisser.
Fun & (war)games and mouthwatering food! *There really should be some recipes included!* I loved both Zoey & Cam (their assistants on the other hand… ugh… grrr!) Their passion and ambition for their careers is exciting. You know they are destined to be together and you want to root for them. Unfortunately, the food truck biz is more cutthroat than you think! It was a fun story – and gutwrenching at times – but I loved it!
Zoey’s chick flick crew is hilarious too! I can’t wait for Eve’s story next!
This is a very steamy romance once it goes into play. The taboo of much older man doesn’t even phase me. Love and attraction does not look at age, gender, or color. It just is. Sophia’s mother is a total waste of space and Jake and Sophia both deserved better than her. Both characters went against their nature by fighting the attraction at first. They both have morals and standards and stood by them throughout the book. The challenges they met due to others who could not get their own acts together really surprised me. Along with a “Taboo” romance…..(Taboo to who is my question), there were moments of suspense, anger, and so much more. So, I guess by now you can guess that YES I did enjoy the book and all it offered. No, I am not being an ass and outing those that didn’t enjoy it. I just think there are ways to show it without being nasty. So, from my point of view this was an enjoyable read and if you like all the kink and taboo issues this short satisfy that craving. Best Wishes~
This is the 2nd book in the series. Nice twist on the original movie-they share only a small portion of the storyline. Very easy to read Would highly recommend this series! Finished it in 1 day. Really loving this authors books.
Meet Zoey, living her dream of running her food truck, and she’s doing well for herself, people flock to her truck everyday, until one day she see’s them eating stuff from another truck. It becomes her mission to find this other owner. At a Halloween party she meets and kisses a guy, and then takes off. All she can think about is the handsome stranger she kissed.
Cam, better known as the Breakfast Bandit, takes this title seriously, as he’s struggled to make a living for himself, and like Zoey, this has been his dream. The antics that go on between these two is hysterical, one trying to best the other while reeking havoc on each other!
I really enjoy this story! 5 stars for this one, grab it asap!
Lila Monroe always manages to put a smile on my face through her books. They are lighthearted, funny, and highly romantic. If you need a book that will make you feel good, this is the book (and series) that will do that for you.
You’ve Got Male is the second book in the Chick Flick Club series but can stand alone. The books are interconnected as they focus on a group of friends, but each friend get’s their own love story. You can read the books in any way you like.
One of the main things that drew me to this series (besides the author kindly sending me a copy for review purposes) is the covers. I am attracted to books with gorgeous covers and love the colors associated with this one. Another reason I love the series and am drawn to it is because these books revolve around chick flicks. I LOVE chick flicks!!! That makes these books a total win for me.
If you are looking for a bright and fun novel with originality and swoon worthy romance, you are not going to want to miss You’ve Got Male!
Lila Monroe
Lila Monroe’s Chick Flick Club series is my favorite to date. You’ve Got Male is definitely movie worthy. What’s better than a food truck queen (Zoey) and a sexy chef (Cam), how about online pen pals who have never met. These two have amazing chemistry and so much fight in them. They are perfect together. I promise you will love You’ve Got Male. Grab it now.
I loved this book, have you ever seen someone at a party and just felt an instant attraction, smoldering, hot but when you go to talk to him or her you can’t even remember your name? Me too! And in this time of technology I’m sure that we have all talked to or chatted with some faceless, anonymous screen name. Have you ever wanted to meet them in real life? What if the pen-pal, chat buddy that you open-up to and drop your guard is your rival? Things get interesting!
Zoey Rafferty has a food truck called the Little Red Wagon (cute name by the way), she went to culinary school but she’s working building her reputation mixing up amazing brunch items, waffle cones with tasty breakfast items inside. She is on top of the brunch food truck charts, until the Breakfast Bandit food truck start stealing her customers and infringing on her food truck locations.
Cam Newsom owns the Breakfast Bandit food truck, he never backs down from fight and loves not following the proverbial rules and he figures let the best chef win. Cam is looking for looking for a woman he can connect with, share their ambitions and cook not only in the kitchen but the bedroom as well.
Competition heats up for Zoey and Cam with the local FoodFest competition and their relationship. Who wins the competition? Will both their hearts handle one winning and the other losing?
I am a huge fan of Lila Monroe and the Chick Flick Club may be my newest series from her! You’ve Got Male can be read as a stand-alone, but I would suggest reading How to Choose a Guy in 10 Days before this one – and really because it is just a great book! This is a sweet and super romantic read. I loved every second of it and can’t wait for more!
A fun, witty, easy-to-read and utterly delightful rom-com
Whilst You’ve Got Male is part of a linked series, it can very easily be read as a stand alone. This is Zoey’s story, she of the A-list actor brother and owner of The Little Red Wagon. She may wish her love life mirrored one of the cheesy rom-com films she loves watching with her two BFF’s, but otherwise Zoey is pretty satisfied with her life. After all, even if it does mean keeping antisocial hours, she is making a decent living with her brunch wagon. Until she encounters Cam the Brunch Bandit, a man determined to poach her customers and drive her into the ground. All’s fair in love and cooking, but just why does he have to be so freakingly gorgeously hot?
The book is written first person, mainly from Zoey’s POV, but with enough ‘CAM chapters’ to get a feel of the man and not hate him. I have to say I loved both Zoey and Cam. They weren’t perfect, but who in life is? Even though this is fiction, I still much prefer my H and h’s to be realistic and relatable. Cam had a bit of a chip on his shoulder and definitely jumped to unfair conclusions about Zoey, but we also got to see a very different and lovable side to him.
Currently I have a huge pile of arc books I have been wading through. It’s a mountain that feels like it is teetering and just about to bury me for good. So much so that, of late, I haven’t enjoyed the actual process of reading. However this book I read in one evening, I can’t even remember the last time I did that out of want rather than necessity. I even had allotted 2 days to do this in. Like a lot of the rom-com films this mentions, the book was just so comfortable and easy. Not to be confused with bland or boring, which this most definitely wasn’t.
The plot was interesting, it had a few twists and turns and plenty laughs along the way. The pace held my attention and the characters were worth investing my time, energy and emotions in. It was actually fairly slow burn, which I didn’t notice until I was more than half way through it! That’s how much I enjoyed it, how engaged it had me, because I do love a bit (or lot) of smut in my romance reads.
I really do recommend this book, it’s well written, it’s entertaining, it’s fun and it’s wonderful.
I am so in fun love with this series !! Another hugely funny laugh out loud story of two people drawn together but fate steps and makes them food truck enemies . Cam and Zoey may have a physical attraction to one another but once they find out that they are both chefs of widely popular food trucks they become fierce competitors. All is fair in love and war and this is a food fight beyond compare !It is a stiff fight to the bitter end but can true love prevail and show them the light !! Sit down, Buckle up and enjoy the ride in the food truck race !!! Loved it !!

You’ve Got Male is Lila Monroe’s latest installment in her Chick Flick Club series. It is a fun, adorable and quick read.
This rom-com novella features Zoey and Cam. Both are food truck owners in San Francisco. Both are highly competitive and driven, but only one has the decorum needed to allow everyone a win. Escalating shenanigans between the two chefs provide plenty of laughs.
The story is a nod to the 1990’s movie, You’ve Got Mail. Unbeknownst to Zoey and Cam, the person they’ve connected to in an online forum is none other than their arch rival. Their respective online personas, WaffleGirl and BetterWithButter, have a fun and supportive relationship juxtapose to their escalating animosity in person.
The heat in the kitchen and the love story hits the top of the charts when these two both get picked to participate in a high-stakes restaurant cook-off. The drama and angst kick in as they realize who their dreamy online pal is in real life.
Can you have love and career success in the same industry? Ms. Monroe provides the answer in her non-stop fun romantic comedy, You’ve Got Male.
You’ve got Male was a fun loving entertaining all you can eat story.
I love the characters and their rivalry if you will!
I laughed, I was just as heartbroken but I genuinely thought Zoey had such a great support network, they really knew how to cheer a girl up.
When a rival food truck is taking away her business Zoey sets out for revenge of sorts. The rivalry is rather funny until things go wrong. Has Cam done the wrong thing or will he redeem himself.
The banter was funny, the friendships and budding relationship were wonderful
A real light hearted, down to earth read you can really kind of relate to. Well I think so.
A definite must read!
This is my 4th Lila Monroe ARC and I feel honored and awesome to be one of the chosen few.
I know I said that Zach and Gemma’s story was my favorite, but I’m quite torn right now… because they have some serious competition with Cam and Zoey…
This is the second book from The Chick Flick Club, and it tells that story about how Zoey and Cam went from brutal enemies to lovers and then back to brutal enemies…
I enjoyed their story… the pacing of how the characters developed feelings for each other is organic…. it was gradual and there was the gleeful anticipation of will they or not…
There was a particular part in the story that broke my heart… I can certainly relate to the betrayal… wherein you think you know the person but turns out you don’t…
It’s got comedy and drama… and it’s something that would cheer you up after a hard day.
4.5 Stars
This is a standalone, but trust you’ll want to read both books that are out. You’ll be laughing all the way through. I love when Zoey, Gemma, and Eve get together. It always makes me wish I could be part of their group. This is an enemies to lovers story. I did cringe in second hand embarrassment for the charterers with the hijinks they pulled. I gobbled this book right up. The characters are great and they pulled me right into the story. I really can’t wait for the next book!
Lila Monroe brings together the San Fransisco food truck community and the reality television craze in her latest story, You’ve Got Male, book 2 in her Chick Flick Club series. And in true Lila Monroe romantic comedy fashion, Zoey Rafferty and Cam Newsome know exactly how to get underneath each other’s skin as business adversaries but also how to heat one another up with flirtatious exchanges, sultry looks, and even some too close for comfort encounters that make readers question whether Zoey and Cam can keep their professional and personal lives separate when the rivalry gets even hotter and their exchanges lead to some interesting discoveries.
Zoey and Cam’s antics prove just how competitive the food truck industry is and illustrate why neither of them can play things safe…can allow another food truck to outdo them…can be afraid to do whatever it takes to get ahead and for all of these reasons, these two will either wind up going for broke alone or perhaps work together in order to remain doing what they love and being successful doing it.
Boy do Zoey and Cam push each other’s buttons, and while Cam seems to be more educated on the finer points of sabotage and nefarious acts, Zoey’s passion for cooking and her desire to succeed makes her a quick study, and soon, she’s giving as good as she gets but she’s also realizing that her growing feelings for Cam aren’t just ones of detestation or annoyance.
The idea that all is fair in love and war is fitting for what Zoey and Cam do to each other in You’ve Got Male, and it’s clear that this enemies-to-lovers’ storyline utilizes the main characters’ banter, chemistry, and passion for food to make a connection that’s a lot deeper than either of them knows, which means that as their relationship changes and grows, decisions need to be made before they’re both out of a job and a potential love interest.
I can’t help but smile and reminisce about some of my favorite romantic comedies when I enter Lila Monroe’s Chick Flick Club series; the way she puts her own spin on well-known movies and brings the swoon, the laughter, and the steam that these films are known for into her comedically crafted world allows readers to lose themselves in Monroe’s stories just like they do in the movies.
4 Poison Apples
Lila Monroe has me smiling throughout You’ve Got Male! This was one of the most original stories I’ve read as of late and I absolutely loved it! Lila Monroe knows how to pull you into her stories. The witty banter, the hilarious moments between all of the characters and the way everything comes together is flawless. I adored this story of the food truck wars and I’m in love with Zoey & Cam! You’ve Got Male is the second book in the Chick Flick Club series and can be read as a stand alone but I highly recommend reading the entire series!
A bitter rivalry with comedy, sass, and an infuriatingly sexy Bandit? Sign me up!
Cam is…geez, there’s so many words I could use to describe him. He’s charming, funny, sexy, infuriating, and can be kind if a jerk sometimes. It’s hard to decide whether you want to kiss him or slap him, which is Zoey’s biggest dilemma. But to be fair, Zoey tends to be the one who brings out that side of him.
Zoey is fantastic, but she’s certainly not innocent in this whole rivalry business. She gives as good as she gets. She’s sassy, smart, and never filtered. And for as outgoing as she is, I love that she had a timid, more vulnerable side too.
I think this ranks up there as one of my favorite Lila Monroe books. Cam stole my heart right at the beginning with his roguish ways and Zoey is inspiring. Together they’re fun, flirty, and just simply lovable. I really enjoyed this book and I love the whole series so far!
I loved Zoey and Cam! Their banter was hilarious! The pranks were pretty amazing also.
I loved how they met, I thought that was adorable.
I can’t wait for the next book!!!
This is the second book in the Chick Flick Club. It is a stand alone, but they both will have you laughing out loud.
This is sort of like the movie “You’ve Got Mail”. But instead of a book store, it’s food trucks!
Zoey has the Little Red Wagon. She makes all types of brunch foods. I wish I could actually try some of them.
Cam has the Brunch Bandit. And he doesn’t follow the unspoken rules of food trucks.
Both characters are great.
They are both fierce competitors.
I do wish Zoey would have junk punched AJ though. Or we would have seen Cam beat him in front of everyone.
The pranks were funny.
This is a great enemies-to-lovers read.
