A political golden boy and the woman of his dreams take the risk of their lives in a sexy romantic comedy of strange bedfellows and second chances by New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne.Fresh off being named Citizen magazine’s Man of the Year, New York City’s youngest mayor, Robert Davenport, decides it’s time to strategize. Next move: a bid for the governor’s seat. In his way: an … governor’s seat. In his way: an incumbent with a flawless reputation. He also has an Achilles’ heel: an estranged wild-child daughter with a past so scandalous it could be Robert’s ticket to victory. And a charm so irresistible it could be Robert’s downfall.
Rebellion is a thing of the past for Adeline Blake. As New York’s premier event planner, she’s all about reform and respectability. Then she’s approached by Robert to organize the party of the season. Curious, considering he’s her father’s most formidable opponent. And alarming, too. Because Addie can’t help but fall for the righteously popular candidate with the movie-star smile.
Now it’s Robert’s choice. Does he pursue a future that holds his legacy? Or the woman who holds his heart?

Normally I avoid romance with a political storyline but since this was a new Lauren Layne book and she normally has a deft touch with her stories, I decided to go for it and I’m very glad I did. After a couple of more intense reads, this was just the kind of romance I needed, effervescent, good banter, solid friendships, and filled with characters who tried to do the right thing for both themselves and others. Robert and Addie were very cute together and made one of those couples whom you could just see belonged together in spite of the fact that she’s the estranged daughter of his political rival and it would practically be career suicide for him to get involved with her. My only problem with this book was that it made me long for a real life politician who is as upstanding and principled as Robert.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book from Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I LOVE THIS BOOK! I was sucked in from the very beginning and I could not put it down! Sweet and lighthearted – this was a great read! This was my first book by Lauren Layne, but I can promise it will not be my last! LOVED!!
3.5 Stars!
Yours in Scandal is the first book in the Man of the Year Series by Lauren Layne and it follows the story of Robert & Adeline. As New York City’s youngest mayor, Robert is at the height of his game. He’s got his sights set on bigger and better things. The only thing standing in his way is an incumbent with a squeaky clean reputation. All’s fair in love and politics, and Robert isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. He knows his opponent has a skeleton in his closet, that he wouldn’t like exposed. So, with the advice of his campaign manager, Robert decides to go after his opponent’s estranged daughter. She might be exactly what Robert needs to win the prize…….Adeline Blake is no stranger to scandal. Her younger days were wild, out of control and just filled with rebellion. However, all of those qualities are a thing of the past. Adeline has completely reinvented herself and is a far cry from the wild child she used to be. So, when she’s approached to plan a party for her father’s biggest opponent, she can’t help but be curious. Will Adeline fall prey to Robert’s charm? Will Robert claim the victory he is seeking? There’s only one way to find out….
Yours in Scandal is a quick and easy read. It’s definitely a book that you can read in just one sitting. I thought the plot was fun and original. I loved the mix of politics and romance. I thought the characters were intriguing and they kept me entertained. I enjoyed Adeline & Robert together and couldn’t wait to see their story unfold. Overall, I think this book is a great start to this series. The characters are great and their story is written well. I loved the politics and the banter and everything in between. There was some drama, but nothing too over the top. All in all, this book was a really cute read. I look forward to checking out the next book in this series.
When Roberts starts off his plan to go after his enemy’s daughter, he didn’t expect to find the woman for him. But that’s exactly what happens. The story is funny, witty, and entertaining. Even though you can expect what will happen, it does keep you engaged because of the characters.
Lauren Layne is back with a brand new series called Man of the Year. Yours in Scandal is the first in the series, and an excellent venture into this new area. Layne’s books don’t usually veer into politics, yet this one follows the NYC’s youngest mayor as he begins his bid for the incumbent governor’s seat. But, don’t worry, no taboo political topics are actually touched on here! His campaign manager finds the current governor’s estranged daughter, working as an event planner in the city under a new name and new look. He wants Robert to get close to her to see what information they can get on her dad. Thankfully, our hero isn’t so keen on this deceitful plan. But, when he meets her, sparks fly, and a reluctant friendship begins between them, eventually leading to more. Adeline is not the wild child she used to be. She’s careful, and skittish around men now, especially politicians. It’s definitely slow burn, filled with smart dialogue and witty banter between two easy to love characters. Layne brings her trademark female friendships to the story as well, in Adeline’s fun, clever best friends. Lauren Layne is always a solid author for me, writing stories I love and reread often, and this is no different. Highly recommend!

Yours In Scandal by Lauren Layne is the first book in a new series, Man of the year, and was a quick and charming read that left me content and smiling. Robert Davenport is charming, sexy and has his sights set on becoming the next Governor. Adeline Blake, Addie, is a reformed wild child set on changing her ways. She is also the daughter of the man Robert needs to win to obtain his dreams. He thinks he may be able to gain information from her, but after meeting, the sparks are flying!

I’ll just say it: my favorite Lauren Layne is back! Maybe you are thinking: What is this girl saying? Well, it’s been about a year since my last read from LL and I was just impatiently waiting for this series. Why? Because Lauren said she was going back to her “steamy” version with these books. I totally support her sweet/no steam latest releases but I have to say they weren’t for me. I love a bit of that chemistry developed and Lauren surely did not fail with this one!
Yours in Scandal is the first installment in her Man of the Year series and it focuses on a political golden boy and his relationship with a former wild-child now event planner. Robert Davenport is NYC’s mayor, he is almost done and he wants to prepare his next move. Enter Adeline Blake. She is the daughter’s opponent for the governor seat and his ticket to victory. But what happens when they start spending time together to arrange a party and sparks start flying? Will this become Addie and Robert’s next scandal or will love win?
Interest in Adeline Blake, elite event planner, was one thing. Interest in Addie Brennan, daughter of his future primary opponent and a ticking time bomb of potential scandal, was political suicide.
I devoured this book in just a few hours so I can definitely assure my love for all things Lauren Layne has not stopped. I love her stories, with sexy, protective suits and charming heroines. And a good dose of sexual tension and burning chemistry. And some drama and all the feels. Yes, Lauren’s newest release has all of that and I am not surprised. She goes back to the romance style I love from her and Yours in Scandal was the perfect sweet and sexy read I was expecting. I loved the premise of the story, the political theme, the crew of characters and, of course, the couple.
She wanted him. She wanted Robert.
Adeline felt the last traces of her resistance crumble. She was stuck in his web. Willingly.
Robert and Addie were wonderful characters. I loved their banter, the sexual tension, the explosive chemistry and the emotions. They were amazing together and as individuals too. Their connection burned the pages and as scandalous as it was, it was oh so worth it. I mean, we all love a love story between two people who apparently are not supposed to end up together, I am right? Well, these two did and it was perfect. I loved their happy ending!
“They’ll be talking about us forever.”
“Good,” he said, pulling her in once more. “Because that’s exactly how long I’ll love you.”
Therefore, I am rating Yours in Scandal with 4.5 STARS because I am so glad I am able to read more of these type of romances from Lauren Layne. You know how much I love many of her series and I am sure I will also love this one since it has such a great start! Opposites attracted, Robert and Addie were so good together and I loved their connection. I also loved the rest of the characters so I am quite eager to know who is next in the series! I am so ready for it!
4 Stars!
Robert Davenport is a politician who is known as the golden boy of NYC for his flawless reputation. He’s the youngest mayor in New York history and has been a well loved, popular mayor for the last two terms. His Hollywood good looks get him a lot of attention, but he tries to avoid romantic entanglements. He recently has his photo plastered on magazines across America from being named the Man of the Year. He’s a charming, powerful bachelor who appears to have it all. Those around him feel his next step in the world of politics should be a run for governor. It’s time to start thinking of the future and that includes sizing up the competition. If he’s going to get an edge on the current governor they need a great campaign. They have to strategize and figure out his weakness, and maybe dig up some dirt on him. Could his wild child estranged daughter be their ticket to success?
Adeline Blake disappeared from the public eye and reinvented herself. She was no longer the scandalous, rebellious, unpredictable, defiant girl she used to be. She’d changed her image, and now owned a premier event planning business. She wanted a fresh start where she could keep her past private. She accepts a meeting with a high profile client that could give her company amazing exposure. Working with Mayor Davenport is a great opportunity, but she hopes she can continue to stay out of the spotlight.
Robert has his own agenda when it comes to his rivals daughter, but he quickly realizes he’s extremely intrigued with the gorgeous brunette. The reformed bad girl is alluring, and there is something simmering between them they can’t deny. When real feelings develop will he be forced to choose between his career and love, or can he find a way to have both?
Yours in Scandal (Man of the Year, Book One) by Lauren Layne is a sexy romantic comedy about love and second chances. I really enjoyed this story, and the charming, kind, yummy Mayor Davenport. I can’t wait for more books in this new series from Lauren Layne!
OMG! I am in love with the start of this series and I can’t wait for MORE!! I have been in love with Ms. Layne’s stories for years and this one had me squirming in my seat. I was hooked from the beginning, this story is engaging, full of charm, captivating wit, sizzling chemistry, is perfectly romantic, and it delivers a sublime happy-ever-after with all the feels. I couldn’t get enough of this romance.
Robert Davenport is in politics to make a difference, but with the end of his job as the Mayor of New York Ciy right around the corner, he was becoming increasingly aware of just how little he had outside of his work. Always busy with his job, he has never had time or met anyone that captured his attention. Until he meets her.
Adeline Blake is an up and coming premier event planner. Who had changed her name from Addie Brennan, the wild child that brought scandal to her father, the current Governor of New York last campaign. Brought in under the guise to plan a party for Robert Davenport, since his longtime party planner had just had twins. Secretly it is Robert’s campaign manager’s idea for the mayor to try to get information on the governor, who will be his opponent when he runs for Governor of New York in a year.
But as these two work together, there is a strange tension that starts brewing between them. An intoxicating seduction that will have you melting from the warmth and goodness of a man who is so not what she expects. But will it be enough?
If you are looking for a modern day romance that makes you smile, tingle, laugh, swoon and makes you break out a fan, then dive into “YOURS IN SCANDAL”.
Received a early copy through NetGalley for an honest review.
This one was a quick, funny and heartfelt story. It was a kinda book that will put a smile on your face and leave you feeling simply happy.
I loved the relationship between Robert and Adeline. I loved how she was trying very hard not to be in the spotlight again. And it was really hard not to fall for his charms. The transition from enemies to lovers was effortless and made me a believer that true love can conquer all.
I’m excited to see what happens next in this series because the beginning was fantastic.

Robert Davenport is a political unicorn. He was the youngest mayor of New York, is movie star handsome, a billionaire, and is a perfect progressive (everyone gets all sorts of free stuff!). He is coming to the end of his two terms and is planning on running against the incumbent Governor. The Governor has rumors of bad behavior, but nothing proven. When his campaign manager stumbles upon the long lost wild child daughter, Addie Brennan, of the Governor living and working as a party planner under the name Adeline Blake, he hatches a plan. The campaign manager has Robert use her to plan a party to befriend her and get political dirt on her father. Addie had a pretty awful childhood and and wants nothing to do with politics or politicians. Of course, there is instant attraction and her resolve goes out the window. Overall this was an okay read, but I had a real hard time liking Robert. He is supposed to be a golden boy, but his lying and subterfuge made me think he was a self-centered jerk. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
YOURS IN SCANDAL by Lauren Layne is the First book in the Man of the Year Series. This is the story of Robert Davenport and Adeline ‘Addie’ Blake.
Blake was the Man of the Year and his job as Mayor of New York is coming to a end. So Robert has decided to put his hat into the Governor’s race. Robert is a pretty tight lace person but he thinks that maybe he can help his chance by getting close to his political opponent’s estranged daughter, Adeline. Adeline was once the wild child breaking all the rules but now she is trying to work toward changing her image. In addition she has started a party planning / event planning business. Adeline has been asked to organized the Mayor/Robert’s last party. Of course their attraction is off the charts and the lines become blurry on what Robert wants now. I am a big fan of this author’s writing so I was so excited to read this book. Can’t wait for more from this author and series.
When I started reading this book I really thought that this could be it, another hit by Ms. Layne. I was digging the dynamic between the main characters and I especially liked that Adeline kept Robert on his toes. After a while, it fizzled out though, and I haven’t been able to figure out why yet
I guess one of the reasons is that there was nothing specific that made the (extremely predictable) story or couple stand out to me. Everything was only so-so.

I was first introduced to Lauren Layne through her 21 Wall Street series and I enjoyed her writing style and those books so much. I was excited to see that she had a new series on the horizon and with Yours in Scandal, the Man of the Year series is off to a great start!
Robert Davenport is currently the mayor of New York, but his time in Gracie Mansion is coming to an end after two terms. He has his sights set on becoming governor of the great state of New York. His campaign manager is looking for any way that Robert can get a leg up on his opponent and so he targets the incumbent governor’s daughter.
Adeline Blake is a party planner who is hired by Robert to plan his last party in Gracie Mansion before his reign as mayor is over. While Adeline is an exceptional party planner, she also happens to be the daughter of the current governor that Robert’s campaign manager has a target on. All Adeline wants to do is live the life she’s created for herself with her new identity out of the spotlight.
Will the fact that Robert and Adeline are working together help his campaign and allow him to defeat her father or will he end up losing both the election and the girl?
I enjoyed the slow burn of this relationship and the fact that it was about following your heart in the end regardless of the consequences. This was a different story than I’ve ever read and I loved it. I’m definitely looking forward to the next books in this series!
I LOVE Lauren Layne, but I’m still not sure how I feel about the whole political aspect of this book, that just wasn’t for me. However, don’t get me wrong I still enjoyed this story, it’s just not my favorite.
Yours in Scandal is an enemies/friends to lovers romance with a political aspect. Robert Davenport is New York’s mayor but with his term coming to an end, he has his sights set on Governor. Adeline is a former wild child who is back using a new name and a new look, she is also an up and coming event planner in New York.
Robert and Addie definitely had some chemistry, but it was a slow building romance. Addie isn’t a fan of politicians given who her father is (aka the current governor) and she lumps all of them into the same category. I love that Robert isn’t like the stereotypical politician. He is young, determined, and hard-working. He isn’t a fan of the dirty playing ideas. Addie was a wild child, but now that she is back in New York she is nothing like the girl she used to be.
I enjoyed the story, the chemistry, the dialogue, I just didn’t enjoy the political aspect of this story. It’s just not my thing but if you ignore that it is a great story. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of this series.
When I need a feel-good read, I can always count on Lauren Layne. She’s been one of my go-to authors for a few years now and I don’t see that changing. As expected, Yours in Scandal was exactly what I needed. I physically felt my heart and mood lightening up and I’m always grateful for that feeling.
This funny, sexy and heartfelt story includes a swoony mayor (of New York City nonetheless) Robert Davenport, and the once “ungovernable” daughter of the Governor, Addie Brennan, now reformed party girl Adeline Blake. These two are seemingly all wrong for each other, but Robert immediately feels something else and he is bound and determined to figure out what that is.
When the two meet, he feels an immediate and very deep pull to Adeline. As newly crowned Man of the year, he’s every woman’s dream catch. Adeline can admit to the attraction but she knows she can’t get involved for a multitude of reasons. As hard as she might fight it, and notwithstanding Robert’s “reason” for getting to know her, a romantic connection is inevitable. But first, they must become friends. And after some imprudent attempts to push Robert away, Adeline embraces her feelings instead of swallowing them.
This is a story is about wanting what you can’t have, and the deep need to right the wrongness in that assumption. This is the story of sparks flying, only to be quickly extinguished by the nature of their relationship; she’s been hired as his event planner and the very nature of his job and the future of his political career. This is the story of putting one’s heart first. Taking the chance on the person you love, scandal be damned.
Like all Lauren Layne books, I simply adored this story. I adored how the author handles the messiness of relationships in the political arena. I loved how the author shows us a strong and honorable young woman who takes charge of her life, no matter the consequence. And I adored how two very likable characters found their HEA. Together.
4.5 stars and a recommendation!
The 3 Ps – politics, party planning, and perfection!
Robert is not only a politician, he’s also THE hottest man which means he’s a giant NO for Addie…except he’s not. He needs a political edge and a party planner, which makes Addie the perfect choice for him…in more ways than one.
Lauren Layne has the ability to make me forget how long a book is, until the end when I realize I’m done and just want more, more, more. I’m so excited for this new series that so far seems to be bringing that LL heat along with the snappy dialogue and swoon worthy gestures!
I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
What is it about Lauren Layne’s characters-they’re just…perfect! Relatable, charming and totally aware of who they are. I never pass up a Lauren Layne book. Don’t miss this one! And for those of you who are thinking “I don’t want to read a book about politics”- this isnt one. It’s not the least bit political.
“I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review”
I’m so happy that I got the chance to read this story ‘Yours in scandal’ because it was such a pleasant read. I didn’t expect to be so captivated by the story but I really was. I couldn’t put it down. Luckily for me, I read it in the weekend so I had plenty of time to read it. ‘Yours in scandal’ is a sweet, delicious, easy to read story with just a touch of emotional sprinkles in it. I loved every moment of it.
At first glance you would think that Robert and Adeline have totally opposite characters and goals but when you look deeper, you will see two lonely people who may know perfectly well what they want in their career but who are also looking for that ONE person who will be there for them in good times and in bad. From the beginning you could feel the connection between them but just like them you also know that Adeline’s scandalous past will be a major obstacle for a future together. But we all know that the heart doesn’t always follow the rules and that it doesn’t always listen to the mind and that is here the case too. Will Robert put his political career on the line for a woman, for Adeline? Will he follow his heart or his mind?
The story is told in both POV’s and both Robert and Adeline are wonderful characters. The chemistry between them is sparkling, steamy and entertaining. I loved their banter. Robert is a hard-working, likeable, respectful, honest and thoughtful guy. Although he is a powerful person, the mayor of New York, he doesn’t take advantage of his position. He tries to be fair and honest in his work and he isn’t a playboy in his personal life. In the contrary, he doesn’t have a personal life, he puts his all in his job. I liked that very much. Adeline is also a hard-working woman but she’s more conflicted inside. Past experiences has made her more mistrustful of people, especially men. Nowadays, she tries to hide her more playful, sensitive and carefree side. I like how in the end, she accepted both sides of herself.
The secondary characters are also very entertaining. You have Adeline’s two girlfriends, who are there for her no matter what. And Robert’s entourage, who are very loyal to him.
I enjoyed this book very much and I’m already looking forward to the next book in this series.
I totally adored the story of Addie and Robert. In a real-life, I am not fond of politics at all but in the book world, I love them. The strings behind the scenes, the intrigues, the runs, the people campaigning. This book was amazingly written and it´d quite refreshed my TBR list as not many books are about this topic. Anyway, I loved every second.
