A political golden boy and the woman of his dreams take the risk of their lives in a sexy romantic comedy of strange bedfellows and second chances by New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne.Fresh off being named Citizen magazine’s Man of the Year, New York City’s youngest mayor, Robert Davenport, decides it’s time to strategize. Next move: a bid for the governor’s seat. In his way: an … governor’s seat. In his way: an incumbent with a flawless reputation. He also has an Achilles’ heel: an estranged wild-child daughter with a past so scandalous it could be Robert’s ticket to victory. And a charm so irresistible it could be Robert’s downfall.
Rebellion is a thing of the past for Adeline Blake. As New York’s premier event planner, she’s all about reform and respectability. Then she’s approached by Robert to organize the party of the season. Curious, considering he’s her father’s most formidable opponent. And alarming, too. Because Addie can’t help but fall for the righteously popular candidate with the movie-star smile.
Now it’s Robert’s choice. Does he pursue a future that holds his legacy? Or the woman who holds his heart?

Yours in Scandal is positively yummy…Lauren Layne has outdone her self her latest book.
Adeline/Addie Blake and Mayor Robert Davenport have undeniable chemistry. She must protect a secret that he already knows about.. This book contains wit, romance and oh my, scandal.
So good and a great start to a new series! Robert Davenport, Jr. is finishing up his second term as Mayor of New York City and recently newest Citizen’s Man of the Year. He has lived his life emulating his late father trying to live up to his high standards and giving his all to the people of New York while in office. Now he is looking to his future and his campaign manager has found what appears to be solution to finding the dirt needed on the governor who does not appear to have any except his daughter who disappeared. She has been found, though looks nothing as she did and has changed her name and settled down. She is no longer the boozing, stripping, and hot mess she used to be, she is now a sedate events planner. Robert sets out to hire her and, oh my, do these two have chemistry. It was so much fun watching them circle each other and try to keep apart to not start a scandal but this one…oh yes…this is such a good one!!! Definitely a recommended read. I’m not giving anything away. READ THIS ONE!
Yours In Scandal was such a fun, light read. It was quite refreshing in that there were a few little secrets but nothing too over the top dramatic or angst ridden.
I absolutely loved Robert and Adeline. Adeline is a woman ready to take her life back and live it on her terms but in doing so is she just hiding her true self. Robert is Mr. Mayor with an eye on the Governor’s seat but will a sassy, spitfire of a woman who tells it like it is be the one to make him reevaluate what’s most important in life.
Such a fantastic start to a new series. Looking forward to the next addition.

Loving this new series from Lauren! Robert is finishing up his time as mayor and is looking to take the next step by running for governor. Adeline is estranged from her father, the current governor and has distanced herself from the person she used to be and the life she used to have with him. When Robert’s staff finds who Adeline really is and suggests using her to get a leg up against her father, he’s uncomfortable about it but doesn’t say no. But as he gets to know her, he realizes he’s actually developed feelings for her, with respect for who she was. Adeline really struggles with her sense of self and who she is in this book, and it was actually the best part of the book for me to see her realize that she could be a combination of the wild child she used to be while also being professional and responsible. Their coming together was a great ending to the story and I was glad that Lauren gave us insight into what happened after everything blows up!

Man of the Year just happens to be the Mayor of New York who’s term is ending and he is looking to continue in the political world as Governor of the State of New York. In order to do that he needs to find a way to unseat the current governor and the current governor’s daughter maybe just the way to do that. A plan is set but little did the Mayor know how enchanting the Governor’s daughter would be.
I loved how Robert went with the plan, but he kept his integrity. He didn’t go so far as to feel like he was taking advantage of Adeline. He hired her as a party planner when his usual planner wasn’t available, felt something between them from the very beginning, and then carefully kept inserting himself into her life. You could tell he wasn’t sure what to do, he wasn’t sure how much or when to tell her that he knew who she was, and he was falling for her. I liked how careful, how respectful, and how unsure he was of what was going to happen.
Adeline, I understood that she was trying to reinvent herself but her “old” self wasn’t a bad person. The old self was someone looking for their father’s attention, looking for their father’s love, and was going about getting it in the wrong way. I loved how she had the support of her friends and didn’t back down when things got tough. She tried to do the right thing for Robert and herself but the feelings she had for him just wouldn’t let her entirely walk away.
Pick up your own copy of Yours in Scandal. The book is easy and fun to read.
“He’d merely been waiting for her to trust him, thinking she was worth the wait. And she was, she realized, letting the last of her insecurities slip away. She was worth the wait. She was worthy of this man, just as she was.”
There is still no book by Lauren Layne that i didn’t like it so it’s no surprise for me that I liked Yours in Scandal. This book is about Robert Davenport, mayor of New York, that has set a goal to become a governor and Adeline Blake, the wild daughter of Robert’s opponent.
Robert was so charming, righteous and you could see it was not just for show, that he stayed true to his beliefs and we could also see how much he loved his job, I liked that, even though Robert was a politician, it didn’t have much focus on politics.
Addie was just amazing, i love her personality, the way she stayed strong after all her crazy past, I was simply drawn to her (so I get you Robert), and it was amazing seeing her development through the book as she began accepting who she truly are.
They were perfect together, since the first encounter I could feel the sexual tension, their relationship was cute and I would like to see more of the two of them together, the end of the book was incredible and I’m happy with it. And, of course, one of the things I love the most about Lauren Layne’s book is the friendships and in this one it wasn’t different, Addie interactions with Rosalie and Jane were everything just like Robert’s with Kenny.
Cute and fun
What I liked:
The writing style
The characters
Part of a series: Man of the Year
Standalone
HEA
Epilogue
I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from NetGalley.
Yours in Scandal is the first book in Lauren Layne’s newest series, Man of the Year. It’s classic Lauren Layne with a difference. It’s still set in New York City (which I love), it still has main characters with fantastic chemistry and the dialogue is always on point but this time around it has both characters involved in politics! Yours in Scandal plays on the enemies to lovers/opposite attracts trope and will have us laughing and crying and trying to see how Robert and Adeline will finally get their happy ever after!
4.5 Stars!
I loved this sweet, heartfelt and sexy romance! Robert Davenport is the wildly popular Mayor of New York. He has put his life and soul into his job, always trying to do the right thing for everyone. Now his sights are set on running for Governor. Addie Brennan is the estranged daughter of the current Governor, and may just hold the key on how to defeat him. Addie was a wild child looking for attention, but has turned her life around, and now runs a successful event planning business. When Roberts advisers talk him into getting to know her for information, he reluctantly agrees. But in the first moments of meeting, he knows he could never use her. She is smart, sassy, and sexy, and is a breathe of fresh air for him. He never knows who is really his friend, and Addie is honest and makes him feel like a man and not a mayor. Addie has closely guarded secrets. She has changed so much about herself to hide her past, that she feels lost. Robert makes her feel alive and safe. They can’t fight the attraction between them, and their chemistry is off the charts! But when secrets are revealed, Addie’s past could destroy both their dreams. This was such a fun, entertaining, and sexually charged romance. I loved Robert and Addie, they were both so perfect for each other, making each other feel safe as they accepting and supporting the real them. This story had everything I crave to read! It has the perfect blend of charming and authentic characters, smart and witty banter, and a fun, heartfelt story with lots of sizzling passion! This is the first book I’ve read by Lauren Layne and I will definitely read more of her work.
A few weeks ago I saw the cover for Yours in Scandal and I was like I want to read that. The main reason was the pink. I love the color pink, and the guy on the cover was pretty good looking. However, it was the pink cover that caught my eye. Plus, it looks like it’s going to be a new series.
We get to meet Robert Davenport who happens to be the mayor of New York City. He’s about to get out office, and looking to pursue his political career as the Governor of New York. He’s just trying to find a way to take out the incumbent governor, so his team is looking for a way to get there. They might have found a way with the Governor’s daughter, Adeline Blake formerly known as Addie Brennan. Robert never to intrigued by Adeline, and struggles with the idea of using Adeline to take down her father.
Overall, Yours in Scandal was an adorable read. Don’t get me wrong they have some fun in the story, but they are pretty cute together. They do well with keeping each on their toes. I was pretty entertain with their banter. You want something light with a little touch of politics, you might enjoy Yours in Scandal.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
I stumbled upon Lauren Layne’s books not too long ago and absolutely love her writing. As per her bio she’s a New Yorker and she the stories I’ve read of hers are based in NYC. I think it helps to love these stories because she paints the town she personally lives in so well in her books.
Yours in Scandal focuses on the Mayer of NY, Robert and the Governor of NY’s estranged daughter Adeline. She wants to earn her jobs on her own merit not the reputation she built of herself in her rebellious teen years. Aspiring to be NYC’s go to event planner is what she has her sights on and taking over the mayor’s next party could be her ticket.
Robert doesn’t like dirty politics so using Adeline to garner her father’s dirty secrets seems very wrong. Though he likes that she listened to what he actually wanted for his event and pulled it off last minute. What he didn’t take into account is for Adeline to turn his head, bring out his protective side and to completely fall for her.
As usual though, secrets have a way of raising their ugly heads at an inopportune time and thus creating a distrust between Adeline and Robert. Redemption is key! And this is the best part of this story. Atonement and the time where Robert confronts his campaign manager. Oh happy day!
I know you will enjoy this story if you’re a fan of contemporary romances. It definitely covers all the basis and is written seamlessly.
Lauren Layne writes lovely romance novels to lose yourself in. You become friends with the characters and feel involved in their lives.
The absolute highlight of this book was the development and strength of character of both our hero and heroine. Plus, it’s always lovely reading about two people who genuinely come to care about each other. It’s beautiful.
Considering the political climate these characters live in, the story itself wasn’t overly political. It’s a romance which happens to have characters involved in politics.
Recommend completely to all of my follow romance readers. Your hearts will love this.
Lauren Layne launches her Man of the Year series with the story of New York City’s youngest mayor Robert Davenport, and the only woman who can put his run for governor in jeopardy.
After his father’s death, Robert committed himself to fulfill his father’s legacy. He has served his city the best way he knew how and is now angling for the governor’s position. His opponent, the current governor, has a flawless yet manufactured reputation. Robert knows that getting his estranged daughter to spill all of her father’s heinous secrets is his guarantee to winning. But is it the right thing to do, especially when getting to know the sexy, charming and irresistible woman is dangerous for his career.
Successful event planner Adeline Blake has put her scandalous and rowdy alter ego, Addie Brennan, to rest. She has reformed from her wild teenage antics and has sworn to stay clear of all things politics. But when Citizen magazine’s Man of the Year calls her to organize his farewell party she can’t help falling for the gorgeous and upstanding man. But knowing that their lives cannot co-exist, will they be able to find happiness together?
Robert and Adeline are incredibly charming and appealing characters. They have strong and firm natures that complement their careers and each other and make them an alluring central whose witty and sexy banter had me smiling and grinning from cover to cover. I loved every single second of their romance.
Layne also creates a lovely set of supporting characters whose loyalty and friendship jumped off the pages and gave the story added layer of goodness.
Using New York as her backdrop, Lauren Layne maintains her sassy, sexy and sophisticated standard creating this wonderfully sexy story that expertly blends all the perfect elements in contemporary romance.
Yours in Scandal is book #1 of the Man of the Year series by author Lauren Layne. It a complete standalone contemporary romance. It’s told from both points of view with a HEA. Sub-genre: forbidden romance.
Are you in the mood for a sexy political romance? Then Yours in Scandal by Lauren Layne is the book for you. Ms. Layne is one of my go to authors, and she never fails to disappoint with her entertaining plots, New York City landscapes, and well-defined characters. This novel is part of Ms. Layne’s brand new series, “Man of the Year” and it can be enjoyed as a standalone.
Adeline Blake is the daughter of NYC’s very corrupt governor. Her father’s actions were so hurtful over the span of her childhood, that she tried to humiliate and embarrass him during her early twenties. Unfortunately, her plan backfired and she basically destroyed her own reputation. Now she is back in the city under an assumed name, creating success in the very competitive event planning business. She has no desire to be in the political arena and will never stop despising her father.
Robert Davenport loves his job as the mayor of NYC. He works tirelessly day after day in order to keep his father’s legacy alive and the people of New York City happy. Due to his smarts and good looks, he is very popular and well-liked. Since his term as mayor is coming to an end, he is investigating his next political move. However, before he leaves the job he loves, he wants to throw an amazing party for his supporters and colleagues. According to Robert’s slimy campaign manager, Robert should hire Adeline and her company for the event. He believes that Adeline will be able to shed some light on the rumors that surround her father. However, Adeline and Robert’s time together evolves into much more than either of them could have imagined.
I truly liked this novel, and the developing love connection between Adeline and Robert was quite seductive. I immediately connected with both of them as individuals and as a couple. The secondary characters were unique in their own right, which added a lot of interest to the present happenings. Overall, this is a terrific read and I can’t wait for the second book from this brand new series.

A political romantic comedy with the Mayor of New York and the estranged daughter of the Governor. A ploy to gain the upper hand in an upcoming election leads to more than Robert ever expected when he finds himself unable to stop obsessing over event planer/former party girl Addie. And she feels the same. They should be all wrong for each other, but sometimes what seems wrong could be exactly what you need. It’s a slow burn with a lot of lingering looks and dismissals. It’s funny and sweet and I could not stop reading it! Well written and worth every five stars I’m going to give it!
What a great read.
This new series starts with Robert and Adeline; he’s the mayor and planning on running for Governor; and she’s a former wild child, daughter of the current Governor. So yeah, it could get awkward, lol.
I loved these two, Adeline is so fierce, even if she’s hiding from her past. What a jerk of a father, no wonder she was estranged from him. She was awesome and I was glad Robert saw that, she needed a lot of love.
As for Robert, he was a cool guy doing great for his city, a city he obviously loved. With Adeline, he really saw for the first time he needed more in life. I was so happy he went for it!
These two were great, loved their ending and I can’t wait to read more in the series.
*Thank you to the author for providing a copy for which I’m giving my honest opinion*
As a huge Lauren Layne fan, I was thrilled to get the chance to read Yours in Scandal prior to its publishing date. And I am so happy to report that I was not disappointed. This novel is yet another success for Ms. Layne.
Robert Davenport is New York City’s mayor and golden boy with an eye on the governor’s office. Adeline Blake is the rebellious daughter of Davenport’s potential opponent, who has taken great lengths to conceal her previous identity. When Adeline is hired to plan Robert’s last party as mayor, and sparks begin to fly, it becomes obvious that Adeline’s past could effect Robert’s future. The question becomes whether pursuing each other is worth the risk to either of them.
Yours in Scandal has all the hallmarks of a Lauren Layne classic: witty banter, a great supporting cast, and some steamy chemistry. The conflict in the novel doesn’t come across as too dramatic or too unrealistic, which is a huge plus for me. While the romance genre in general often creates a sense of suspend/disbelief, I have a low threshold for it and enjoy stories that seem at least somewhat plausible AND are entertaining.
Layne builds worlds full of people who you don’t just want to know, but who you want to be friends with. Robert and Adeline don’t feel like caricatures; they feel like real people. And I’m excited that this is the first of a new series, as Layne is particularly adept at creating interwoven narratives (so hopefully we’ll see a little more of Adeline and Robert) and lives that are engaging and fun to read.
For Lauren Layne fans and newbies alike, I encourage you to give Yours in Scandal a read. You can thank me later.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
As per usual, LL provides a fun, cute read that hits the feel-good mark.
Robert Davenport is the Mayor of NYC and also the “Man of the Year” per Citizen magazine (not that he particularly cares about that). Addie is fresh off a personal rebrand to being Adeline, putting her wild-child ways behind her. So when Robert asks her to help plan a party, she now has to figure out which girl he’s gonna get….
Robert was delicious and charming, as one would expect from an LL hero. However, what stood out is just how strong of a character Addie is. How she finds herself and decides to be unapologetic about what she wants (and it might not be what you think!).
This book is exactly what you are looking for if you want something light and fun, designed to simply make you feel good!
Robert Davenport, Jr. has spent his life being the best type of person he can be. Now that his second term as the mayor of New York was coming to a close, he has his sights on running for Governor. Robert has tried his hardest to emulate his father, the late Robert Davenport, Sr. but he will be up against the incumbent, George Brennan…..a man who looks good on paper, but every one knows has skeletons hiding in his closet. One of those skeletons is in the form of his daughter, former wild child Addie Brennan. Addie now goes by the name Adeline Blake and has distanced herself from her father. Robert’s campaign manager thinks he should cozy up to Addie to try and get some dirt on her father. What Robert never expected was the huge impact Addie would have on his heart and his head. How bad could it be to secretly date your opponents estranged daughter? LOL I can tell you it will bring a lot of fun, exciting, sexy times! I really loved these characters. Robert just is deliciously perfect…the type of man I would love for my daughter to meet! Addie is a smart, fun, hardworking woman who brings a little life to Robert’s life that he never realized he was missing. Together they are just perfect! Great start to this new series.
I love a good LL story and Yours in Scandal was no different. She is one of my go to authors and I always know I’m going to love it. The chemistry between Adeline, Addie, and Robbie is amazing. It’s show burn, but it made me love it even more. I love how strong Addie is. The relationship between these two shouldn’t have happened, but it did and I love it. I love how they found their HEA.
