Owen Christiansen has been in a downward spiral since an injury ended his NHL career. But a job on an Alaskan crabbing boat offers a fresh start . . . maybe even a shot at romance with Elise “Scotty” McFlynn, the captain’s daughter.Used to being one of the guys, to never relying on anyone, Scotty doesn’t believe in happily ever after–especially with someone like Owen. Her instinct is confirmed … confirmed when Casper Christiansen arrives to drag his prodigal brother home, bringing with him a truckload of family drama–and even worse, the news that Casper is wanted for questioning in connection to a crime back in Minnesota. But Owen is more than the sum of his mistakes, a truth both he and Scotty discover when she escorts both brothers to Deep Haven as part of her new job on the Anchorage police force. Thrust into an unfamiliar world of family, faith, and fresh starts, Scotty begins to see potential for a happy ending . . . if she’s brave enough to embrace it.

Characters: Owen and Scotty (her nickname) were both entertaining characters. I enjoyed seeing Owen finally quit being the jerk he’d been throughout all the other books, and I actually liked him as a main character.
Language: Clean.
Moral: This book contained themes of grace, forgiveness, and redemption. I did think some of the spiritual discussions/morals could’ve been a little more clear.
Plot: Wow, the first hundred or so pages when Owen and Scotty were on the boat, then lost at sea were intense! I loved it! And I also enjoyed the plot revolving around Casper (Owen’s brother and one of the main characters from a previous book) being a murder suspect. This book had more suspense in it than the previous five, and of course I liked that!
Romance: Clean. Mostly. The one part where Casper was tempted with his girlfriend became a little much, and I didn’t like the compromising situation they put themselves in. I’m glad nothing happened between them, but they could’ve easily avoided the tempting situation. Also, I didn’t like that Owen (who I’m assuming was a Christian) was willing to marry Scotty (who I don’t believe was a Christian until maybe the end, and there’s a heavy emphasis on maybe).
Writing: As usual, I liked Susan May Warren’s writing style. She has a way of making the story flow so well.
Overall: You’re the One That I Want was an entertaining read, and I’d recommend it to readers who enjoy Christian fiction and contemporary fiction.
Rating according to my student readers: Fantastic! 5 Stars! One of the Best Books Ever!
I teach at a small Christian high school & some of my students are avid Susan May Warren fans. I put this book into their hands & haven’t seen it since!
When we asked the first teen girl who finished the novel if it deserved 2 Thumbs Up, she responded, “I’d give it 3 Thumbs Up if I could!” 🙂
It’s a keeper!
You’re the One That I Want is the last book in a Christiansen Family series by Susan May Warren. This is the continuation of Owen’s story. Owen suffered an injury while playing for the NHL that cost him his career. He is now working on an Alaskan crabbing boat. A storm causes the ship’s owner’s daughter, Scotty, to get tossed into the waters and Owen goes in after her. When it is believed they are lost at sea, their pictures are on the TV and Owen’s bother, Casper sees it. He is looking for Owen to get Owen’s permission to marry the mother of Owen’s daughter. When Casper and Owen try to fly home to Minnesota, they are taken into custody as Carper is a suspect in a murder. Scotty is in law enforcement and is asked to make sure they get back to Minnesota.
I have enjoyed reading this series. This book brings the family back together and shows the faith they have as well as the love and devotion they have towards each other. This story contains mystery, suspense and romance. While each of the books focuses on one of the family members, it is also a continuation of the whole family. So this series should be read in the order it is written.
“I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.”
What does a hockey player do when he can no longer play hockey due to an injury? Run, that is what Owen did after a career-ending injury. He was floundering and found a place on an Alaskan crabbing boat. Scotty, the owner of the boat’s daughter, is a more than capable captain who takes her job seriously. She wants nothing to do with the men on the boat and her father has kept her sheltered. When an accident throws Owen and Scotty overboard, things change. Casper, Owen’s brother, has been searching for Owen to bring him home. He has news that Owen needs to hear. Finding Owen has been a long journey but when the accident is televised, Casper finally gets that break. While bringing Owen home, Casper runs into a snag which causes Scotty to escort them both home. Loved reading this series. Just a wonderful Christian romance that will leave you feeling so good reading the scripture quotes and how much faith this family has in our Lord.
Another great book from this series! Love the way it is written and the ease of reading that makes you feel so involved in the story. Loved this entire series and can’t wait to dive into another series from this author.
