Clay is the typical badboy superstar, a boy of humble origin and raised by his father, brings a great pain in the chest that leads him to always get involved in trouble and confusion. The problem is that his record company is tired of putting out his fire and drowning his fights and now demands that he bring famous daughter’of Cora and Robbie, Annie Mathers, to his tour.
Annie Mathers was raised by her grandmother after her parents passed away and despite loving a lot music and having a beautiful voice, she does not want to a life on stage. But Clay convinces her and this approach will bring many memories to Annie’s mind about her parents’ background. Annie with her golden voice and her sweetness conquers in each city of the tour a legion of fans and her presence and her posture on stage begin to mess a little more, as if this is possible, the famous superstar’s mind.
Clay makes a point of treating the girl with indifference and distance even realizing that he is enchanted by her every song sung because his demons are stronger than him and the reader is left to hope that both Annie and Clay do not succumb with them.
I really enjoyed Annie, her band and Fitz, since Clay did not appeal to me very much and his rudeness annoyed me most of the book, but I found it interesting how the writer led the story.
The cover does not attract to the book and does not pass the right message of it either, which for me is more a strong drama than for a story as lightly as this model seems.
You’d Be Mine is such a charming YA romance. I was engrossed in Annie and Clay’s story, I finished it in one day. Put this one on your TBR if you enjoy love stories involving swoony bad boys and smart girls, country music, and happy endings.
4.5 Unexpected Stars!
You’d Be Mine was such an unexpected surprise. I feel in love with this book from the very first page and quickly found myself addicted to Annie and Clay. Their story hit all the marks for me and left me hanging on every single word. Annie & Clay’s story might be young adult, but it still had a very real and raw quality to it. It’s a story that any age group can enjoy and relate to.
When we first meet up with Clay & Annie, I just knew their story was going to keep me on my toes. Clay is know as the bad boy of country music, but he needs to clean up his act and reputation. His record label is ready to leave him in the dust unless he can convince Annie to come along tour with him. Annie is a YouTube sensation and has been avoiding the spotlight since her parents passed away. Annie has her reservations and knows all the cons that come along with fame, but when it comes to Clay, she just can’t seem to tell him no. She decided to jump and see where this tour will take her…The one thing these two never planned on was the connection they would share. From the very beginning their fans were dying for the two of them to fall in love. But, a high profile relationship is the last thing Annie wants. She’s afraid of the wild ride associated with fame and the demons that haunt both herself & Clay. Will Annie take a chance not only on music, but on Clay? Will Clay prove that he is a risk worth taking? There’s only one way to find out….
You’d Be Mine is a fantastic debut novel by author Erin Hahn. The characters are fun and entertaining. They keep your eyes glued to the pages and just beg for their story to be told. I loved how real Clay & Annie were. They were both damaged and a little lost. There a lot of comparisons to June & Johnny Cash. Their relationship was amazing in the beginning. Their passion and chemistry, off the charts. But, in the end, the demons took over turning their once happily ever after to a wild and volatile situation. And I could totally see that comparison with Annie and Clay and it is told in a beautiful young adult way. I loved watching Clay and Annie together and seeing them navigate their way through the magic of music and fame; through all the ups and downs life threw at them. Even with all the demons these two had to fight against, I couldn’t stop myself from rooting for their happily ever after.
I enjoyed every moment of You’d Be Mine. From the great characters, to the entertaining plot, to the rock star romance and emotion throughout, this story is a must read for fans of music and young adult romance. You’d Be Mine is incredibly well written and has a wonderful flow to it. It blows my mind that this is Erin Hahn’s debut novel. She is definitely an author to keep an eye out for and I am super excited to read more from her in the future.
Not what I was expecting at all…in a good way. From the description of this book I thought it would be a fun and cute romance that I would enjoy. While it is a fun romance, it’s also very deep and serious. And I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
At the very beginning I thought I might have some problems getting over seeing Clay as a jerky Justin Beiber type. (I’m not saying Beiber is a jerk now, settle down. There’s no denying he had some rough patched through the years though.) While I enjoy stories and romances with characters of all ages, this seemed a bit different since the characters are still quite young but dealing with things that make them seem older. I was afraid this would end up a story of the poor little rich kid who needed to learn to grow up. That’s not the case at all here. Clay has his issues, but you’ll find that he has dealt with a lot in his short life so far. He comes by his issues honestly, not because he’s a spoiled star.
Annie has such an innocence about her, but she’s sharp as a tack. There are several instances where her friends/bandmates, Kacey and Jason, try to shelter her from things they are feeling and doing because of her perceived innocence. I love how she tells them that just because she has made certain decisions doesn’t mean she is going to judge them for making different choices. It’s refreshing and honest.
There is definitely chemistry between Annie and Clay, but in the beginning it’s sometimes hard to see it through the circumstances. Trust me, those glimpses here and there for the first part of the book will turn into a full-on inferno soon enough. Even so, they are both so aware of their own fallibilities they have a hard time seeing this magnetic pull as a positive things.
This is a beautifully written debut novel. Not only do I appreciate the love the author shows my home state of Michigan in a country music story, but I enjoyed the friendships she created in this story. I’m looking forward to reading more from her in the future.

You’d Be Mine is Erin Hahn debut release. It is a contemporary romance full of tons of angst and drama. I really can’t believe that this is this authors debut book, the writing and storyline is that of a seasoned author. Not often does a book just grab me with the storyline and the characters right away.
I grew up on country music so when I pick this book up, I knew I was going to love it.
Clay and Annie are thrown together and for the most part forced to tour together. Both of them are grieving and sadden by family that have passed away and really have never dealt with the loss. This all plays out during this summer that they are touring. All of the secondary characters are such an amazing addition to this story.
Do yourself a favor and give this debut novel!!
Annie Mathers is the daughter of two country music stars who had a tragic ending. Living outside the stage lights of Nashville, Annie tried to ignore her calling but she was born to write and sing. After she releases a couple of songs on YouTube her star starts rising. Clay Coolidge is one of the country’s hottest young stars, but he’s going down the path her parents took. After another drunk bar fight he’s told that he has to go to Michigan to talk Annie into opening for his summer concert tour. With his record deal on the line, Clay convinces Annie and her band to join them. Even though they are complete opposites, she the good girl and he the bad boy, they strike sparks both on stage and off.
You’d be Mine had a lot of the things I look for in a YA contemporary novel, great character growth, a simmering love story, and a great hook. What I wasn’t expecting was the magical poetry this author wrote for their music lyrics and the gritty feel to the story. Annie was an easy character to like. I’ll admit that she walked a fine line between being a “good girl” and kind of a prude, but it fit her back story and gave her the heart and soul she’d need to sell the reader on her chemistry for leading man Clay.
Clay also had a great back story. A brother who is a fallen war hero and a line of people who want to ride his coattails, making his bad choices pretty realistic. If there was one fault with his part of the story I’d say his demon battling went on just a touch too long. I wanted the story to speed up and it lagged just a tad in the middle. The supporting characters were loyal, funny, and charming and I adored all of their antics and support. Even though this was a story about music and love, at it’s heart it was about family and these characters gave the reader a solid base line on what family should look like.
I mentioned above my love for the poetry in the music lyrics. You could tell this author has a feel for writing lyrically and if she hasn’t done so already, she should think about her own songwriting career! They were pretty special and the story itself? Good, very, very good.
I was lucky enough to read a pre-release copy of You’d Be Mine, and holy hell. I just finished, and my throat is still tight with tears. This country star love story is sooo real and makes my heart ache with all the ways people can wound and heal and captivate one another. And Hahn made it feel so effortless, too. READ IT AND THANK ME.
I was browsing through Net-Galley and chanced upon this book… and while YA isn’t really my kind of jam, the blurb lured me in and requested to read it… and thank goodness for the publisher to grant me the opportunity to read it and to get to know the talented— Erin Hahn.
This is a country rockstar romance, that tells how Annie Mathers and Clay Coolidge came to be… She is America’s country music sweetheart and he is country music’s bad boy.
Their road to forever is definitely not an easy one because both have baggage the size of Texas… this is not your typical cute and lovey-dovey clichéd YA… it’s angsty and its emotional. It touches on sensitive topics such as suicide, PTSD, premarital sex, alcoholism and prescription drug addiction. It will also teach you about acceptance, resilience and perseverance.
Like I said, it’s not my usual but I enjoyed it nonetheless… Even though both characters were rockstars they were still relatable… it was a slow burn but I keep forgetting that it’s YA, lol. I wish there was another epilogue, like way into the future… I’m a sucker for those. I’m a romantic sap what can I say?
Although the story is not the same, it kinda gave me a wee bit Abbi Glines’ Seabreeze Series feels… or Rachel Van Dyken’s Seaside Series feels… if you’re a fan of those, then this is the book to pick up next.
I did win an advanced copy of this book, but it was still the perfect beach book. This was teenage country music magic! Both main characters have some serious trauma and baggage, but watching them use music to face their demons was inspiring. I really enjoyed the interplay between the ensemble cast especially Fitz. The POV change was my only real problem. Even with the name at the top of the chapter it was sometimes hard to follow the action from one perspective to the next. But I was very invested in the story and the character, so I was willing to work through it.
