“If you’re still obsessing over A Star Is Born (because, same) you’ll love this new romance novel by Erin Hahn.” – CosmopolitanAnnie Mathers is America’s sweetheart and heir to a country music legacy full of all the things her Gran warned her about. Superstar Clay Coolidge is most definitely going to end up one of those things. But unfortunately for Clay, if he can’t convince Annie to join his … he can’t convince Annie to join his summer tour, his music label is going to drop him. Erin Hahn’s thrilling debut, You’d Be Mine, asks: can the right song and the perfect summer on the road make two broken hearts whole?
“Witty and charming, with an off-the-charts, irresistible blend of romance, humor, and characters who steal your heart from page one. Erin Hahn is an author to watch.” – Karen M. McManus, New York Times bestselling author of One of Us Is Lying

“Clay is country’s leading bad boy, and your sweet face is his redemption.”
Clay Coolidge is a rollicking good-time successful country music star at 18 years old but he’s letting his bad boy image get out of control. He’s already set for his summer tour but after one drunken episode too many, his record label gives him an ultimatum – sign 17 year-old Annie Mathers and her band on as his opening act for the tour or he’s being dropped.
Annie comes from country music royalty and has been hesitant to jump into the glitzy world of big-time country music. After the death of her parents, she’s been secluded on her grandparent’s farm in Michigan, making YouTube videos and playing local venues.
When Clay shows up at Annie’s door, there are two things she realizes – she wants to play her music and perform AND even she can’t deny the instant attraction between her and Clay.
This was a great story about loss, about music, and also a searing romance. Told in alternating chapters by Annie and by Clay, it was a book I didn’t want to put down. It hooked me from page one until the very end. The side characters, which are the members of both Annie and Clay’s bands, were fun too.
I highly recommend to romance and country music enthusiasts.
I received this book from St. Martin’s Press through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.
I just read a beautiful story. It’s a lot country, a little star, and a lot of down home too.
You’d Be Mine is not only a wonderful story but it’s a haunting love song. I finished this book with happy tears welling up in my eyes.
Annie and Clay aren’t your typical “rocker romance”. Country music fan or not, these two will have you standing on your feet at the final curtain call.
It’s a choice really and [they’d] be mine! Heartfelt and full of treacherous traps, You’d Be Mine is a young adult story that shouldn’t be limited by that title. It’s about personal growth, loss, and being survivor. There’s love, loss, and fear. It’s the happy, or the light in your smile.
I loved this story and discovering that this is the author’s debut novel made me love it even more. There are a couple of areas throughout the book that I thought the writing could have been a bit tighter but overall I felt it was very well done with a nice pace and well developed characters. I thought Annie and Clay were amazing characters and adorable together. They are flawed, real, and honest. Clay is on a downward spiral and Annie going on tour with him is his last chance to keep his career afloat. Will the love they find on the road be enough to pull him back from the edge? Lovers of country music will really enjoy this book. It’s one I highly recommend.
***4 Stars***
The description hinted that there would be some…heavy situations, but the reality of what went on in the book with all of the characters was a quite intense. It was a bit of shock, but one that drew me in and had me wanting to not only see where these characters would find themselves in the end.
Annie and Clay were interesting characters. More weathered than their ages would suggest, haunted by their pasts and yet still young, despite it all in how they deal with the world around them. Annie, I really liked. She has this light, this goodness, inside her that comes through regardless of the demons from her past that chase her. Clay, I really liked as well, but he had his moments where he put the most petulant toddler having a temper tantrum to shame. His mercurial mood swings definitely kept me on my toes, but when he was ‘good’ he was a charmer and quite compassionate which had me rooting for him to figure his issues out and work at becoming more.
As for Annie and Clay’s romance, it was that perfect mix of angsty and sweet. Music was what tethered them to each other, and despite a good dose of push/pull going on, I really enjoyed watching their relationship evolve throughout the book. They both had some huge demons riding them hard and I liked how they ended up being each other’s safe place, even as they tended to be triggers for some heart breaking moments.
I have to give the author props for going big on her debut novel with the issues that are brought up throughout the book. Some will definitely be triggers for some readers, but I felt as if they were handled realistically as it pertained to the characters they impacted. The writing was engaging, though there were a couple spots where things dragged a bit for me and I liked the dual first person POV’s. The various characters that populate this world were all well written and brought a lot of depth to the story and I really liked Fitz, Kacey and Jason and definitely wouldn’t mind catching up with everyone in the future to see what they’re all up to.

Totally crying ugly, but happy tears here. Oh and also smiling like a dork cause this book was absolutely amazing! You’d Be Mine by Erin Hanh captured my heart and I am forever going to be in love with Annie and Clay! I loved their story, their personalities, their struggles, their success, their romance, and just… I LOVED EVERYTHING about this wonderful book and I just can’t stop gushing about it.
Filled with irresistible charm, intriguing drama and tension, deliciously adorable swoons, and so much HEART, I found myself enamored and glued to the pages. It was intoxicating, moving, and consuming and I enjoyed every moment. The prose was absolutely gorgeous and made me FEEL so much more than I expected. My heart ached painfully and I honestly could not stop my tears from falling. The storyline was well-developed, captivating, and wonderfully emotional. The alternating POVs were fantastic and reading Annie and Clay’s thoughts, feelings, fears, and insecurities was utterly heartbreaking at times, but also so real, raw and beautiful.
I adored all the characters and had so much fun getting to know them. Annie and Clay were fantastic leads and I rooted for them the entire time. They were both carrying so much pain, anger, and grief and it was so heartwarming to see that their passion for music brought them together. I liked the supporting cast too and thought they were charming and likable. I loved the friendship, loyalty, and support they gave each other. I also really liked that they weren’t always put together and showed their vulnerabilities. They all just seemed so relatable and real and I really loved all their interactions, bantering, and sweet moments.
An unforgettable debut that will tug at your heartstrings, You’d Be Mine by Erin Hahn was truly a pleasure to read. It was beautifully written, absolutely magnetic, incredibly touching, and adorably sweet. It’s such a lovely story about family, forgiveness, passion, music, and love. Clay and Annie sang their way into my heart and I could not have pictured a better ending for them. This stellar book is destined to be a favorite and a must-read this summer and I cannot recommend it enough.
If you love books that can make you laugh, cry, swoon, and have so much love and hope in your hearts, then you need this book on your TBR!!!!
I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
hate when I can’t remember who to thank for amazing book recommendations. Who ever told me to read this thank you!!!
Clay Coolidge is the hottest young county singer with a bit of a partying/ bad boy reputation. And his latest run in had the label telling him to get Annie Mathers to tour with him as his opening act or else they’ll drop him. Annie is a child of Country Legacy. Her superstar parents died tragically when she was 13 and now just shy of her 18th birthday she is finally ready to move from the YouTube spotlight and step onto a real stage where she’s always wanted to be. So she is easily swayed by Clay’s charms and goes out in the road. The attraction is instantaneous and of course the label uses that to create instant buzz. But they both have so much darkness in their past. Annie’s greatest fear is that she’s be thrown off course by an all consuming relationship just like her mother. And I won’t even get into Clay’s holdups. So there is a lot of angst and back and forth. But I loved ever minute of it. The supporting characters are wonderful as well. I’m surprised this was a debut. I will definitely be looking forward to reading more from this author.
Loved this. Perfect Saturday read for me. Emotional depth and growth. Two characters I was rooting for immensely. A lot of love and hope through pain and grief.
I’ll be honest and say that I did not know what this book was about when I requested it. I’ve been on a big romance kick lately and I loved the title and cover so I took a chance and was given a copy. When I started it, I wasn’t sure about it since the main characters ranged from the age of 18 to 22ish and from the beginning, I could tell it would be angsty. I was not wrong about that. The tragedies and loses that Annie and Clay experienced would break anyone but they were still standing, still trying to find a way to cope with it all. Both of them were hurting and angry at the hand life had dealt them and Annie dealt with it better on the outside but still had demons but Clay was using booze and women to deal with his. I cried by the end of this one because the author made me feel for both of these characters. She made me care for them so much that I just wanted to hold them both and tell them it would get better one day. Annie’s story gutted me and is what finally opened the floodgates that were threatening throughout most of the book. Erin Hahn did a masterful job slowly telling both of their stories and showing the persons behind the masks they used to hide.
I loved Annie and Clay. Together they were magic and chemistry that was undeniable from the first time they were on stage together. Separately they were two broken people–each believing they weren’t good enough for the other. I loved the slow burn of their relationship and the fact that Clay had to clean himself up and start working on himself before he could ever be enough for Annie. I loved Fitz and Kacey so much. They were adorable together. I loved Jason too. The five of them together created a family of friends that had each other’s backs and performed masterfully together. This book gave me all the feels and had such strong characters, writing, and plot. I enjoyed it immensely!

Adored this book. A modern A Star Is Born with a happy ending.
4.5 Stars
This was an enjoyable YA nod to A Star is Born, but this story ends with a HEA. It still had it’s own share of heartbreak in both of the mc’s lives, though. I loved the writing and the story progression. I felt the author really knew her stuff and/or did some thorough research. The main characters seemed much older than their 18 years, but believable when considering their tragic histories and early show biz ties. The story continually reminded the reader of their age, which grounded the story and characters involved. Being a YA romance, there was more lightness in the story than the darker sides of fame and touring with a popular band, but the author didn’t shy away from some stark realities of the business. In the end it was a sweet romance with a little angst, wit and lots of swoon.
You’d Be Mine immediately caught my attention online when I saw its gorgeous cover. I mean it’s just so pretty! When I read the blurb, I knew I had to read this one. Unfortunately, it didn’t hold my attention. I really like the plot and think the book has a lot of potential. The romance and characters in You’d Be Mine just didn’t connect with me. There isn’t a specific reason I can list as to why they didn’t, it just fell a little flat for me.
I have seen a lot of reviews that completely disagree with me and readers who loved Annie and Clay’s story. If you’ve read You’d Be Mine, I would love to know what you thought about it!
I voluntarily received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Great characters well written fast moving. Recommend.
Who doesn’t love a rockstar book? This is different, as it’s Country stars!
Clay and Annie have their own dark pasts and secrets. Trying to find who they really are. At 18 I think we all felt this way. Who are we? What is our purpose in this world?
To start it wasn’t bad, a bit repetitive but as a debut it was pretty amazing. I got hooked about half through and could not put it down until it was done (at 3am mind you). Annie’s story, freaking heartbreaking! I don’t know how anyone would come back from that. Clay, he tries so hard to be someone else. Add in Fitz, Kacey, and Jason, not to forget Gran!
You’d Be Mine is one of the most touching, swoon worthy books I’ve read in ages. Hahn hits all the right notes: romance, friendship, family, and self-discovery.
Brighten the spotlight on Erin Hahn’s debut novel. You’d Be Mine will have you tapping your toes, swoonin’ and hummin’ along, all while plucking at your heartstrings.
Witty and charming, with an off-the-charts, irresistible blend of romance, humor, and characters who steal your heart from page one. Erin Hahn is an author to watch.
Unputdownable from page one, You’d Be Mine is a pitch perfect romance for fans of Kasie West and Katie McGarry. Hahn’s writing is a shot of whiskey: warm, biting, and totally dangerous. This book is so good, it’ll inspire even the staunchest Yanks to put on cowboy boots.
I really enjoyed reading You’d Be Mine. Both Clay and Annie are great characters. Annie is sweetheart. She had great talent but has stayed out of the music industry because she has seen it destroy her parents. Clay is a country music star. He’s got talent but he’s kind of a mess. He’s on verge of being dropped by his record label and the only way to save his career is to convince Annie to join his summer tour. She agrees to be his opening act. She sweet and has a big heart while Clay on the other hand is a moody guy. On tour together they share some sweet moments. They both have things is their past that they are battling and it was nice to see the tender moments where they let their walls down. There are song lyrics written into the story, I usually skip over these in stories but in this story I read them and really think that they added to the story.
As a book reviewer that runs a book review blog, my TBR is pretty hefty. I mean, if it was made up of actual printed books, the stack would tower over me. And while my list of favorite authors is somewhat a short one, that doesn’t stop me from giving new, and new-to-me, authors a chance. Especially when I’m in a book funk. And I’m not usually a fan of YA books, but something about this blurb (and the cover––I’m a bit of a cover whore!) made me take a chance on this new author. Sometimes that’s a hit or miss. But this time? A definite hit! And hit it out of the park, she did!
I think at some point in most of our young lives, we dreamt of meeting our celebrity crush. Or even performing with them on whatever stage they were a celebrity on. So I was intrigued by the blurb. Clay is a star. Annie is a rising YouTube star. She’s had a crush on him for quite some time but she’s not sure about working with him. He’s led a privileged life. She’s down to earth. The road is rocky….
This debut book by this author is one that, especially if you love YA books, you should NOT miss. The characters are wonderful, the world building is fantastic, and the story had me devouring it in about two days. And only because I had to put it down to cook for my kids one of those days! Erin Hahn did a great job depicting my teen fantasy, and I absolutely look forward to more books from her!
NICUnurse’s Rating: Definitely a 4.5-star rating from this bookworm! And I very rarely give 4.5 stars to YA books, so you’d better believe this is worth your money and more than worth your time!
While browsing NetGalley “You’d Be Mine” came up. It sounded interesting and I’m a sucker for a good rockstar romance. This is a little different simply because it features a bunch of country music references which did throw me for a loop simply because I don’t listen to country.
This book was surprisingly good. The main characters are realistic & will definitely make you root for them to get their lives together. They both are damaged and I like that they struggled with issues. It was nice to see how Erin Hahn wrote them. I definitely enjoyed the storyline. My only issue with this book was how easily things were fixed. It seems like it was wrapped up a little too quickly. I wish that we would have seen more of the “getting our lives together” stuff and less of the “everything is perfect” stuff.
I do appreciate that Erin was able to create solid characters and I will definitely look into reading more of her books.
All in all, it’s a good book that had solid characters.
