From debut author Caroline Kepnes comes You, a brilliant and terrifying novel for the social media age.
When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card.
There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe … incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight — the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.
As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way — even if it means murder.
A terrifying exploration of how vulnerable we all are to stalking and manipulation, debut author Caroline Kepnes delivers a razor-sharp novel for our hyper-connected digital age. You is a compulsively readable page-turner that’s being compared to Gone Girl, American Psycho, and Stephen King’s Misery.

Is it wrong to root for the stalker? Loved Joe and every twisted thought in his warped mind. Brilliant and creative story.
This was what I thought it would be (and now there is a Netflix depiction of it done after I read the book which is starting out really well done)……FREAKY! Being a woman you always worry about meeting (or your daughter meeting) screwy people like the main character of this book. Someone who seems so normal on the outside but VERY twisted on …
I start the book by utterly loathing the narrator. It’s toxic masculinity at its finest. Entitled, vulgar, obsessive, angry. I was disgusted. Guinevere Beck walks into the rare book store that is run by Joe Goldberg. He becomes obsessed. Quietly and maliciously obsessed. I wouldn’t call it love, although he believes it is. Do either truly …
It took me awhile to digest this book. I couldn’t figure out if I liked it while reading it. The author wrote in a way that left me feeling really creeped out. If someone can make me feel all these different emotions then it must be a good book. I liked it enough to read the sequel.
This book was amazing! I loved the fact that it was written from Joe’s POV… And there’s a book 2? YES!!!
Deeply creepy and unsettling, yes, but also witty and intriguing. Absolutely riveting in audiobook. Santino Fontana was born to narrate this dark thriller about a stalker who doesn’t see himself as a stalker, and a stalkee who isn’t your typical damsel in distress.
This is a weird book…as in completely off the hook. Like a lot of people, I watched the TV show for this book and then just had to read it. I could tell from the way they danced past certain things in the show that the book was probably a lot more raw and revealing.
Whew…revealing is definitely the word.
First, this book is *not* for …
I read this book a couple of months ago, and I still find myself thinking about it. Might be my favorite read of 2018.
An anatomy of a stalking, from the POV of the stalker.
This story was not a comfortable read, but it was a very insightful one. How do stalkers work? How do they worm their way into your life? How do they start controlling you? Why is it so easy to get sucked in? Are the other people in your life setting you up to be manipulated and controlled? …
I typically don’t read thriller novels, but a review of the Lifetime series adaptation intrigued me, so I thought I’d try it.
Whoa. I was hooked. I couldn’t put this book down. It freaks you out, yet keeps you reading at the same time. Bookstore cashier Joe Goldberg meets his crush (maybe even love of his life) one day in the F-K section of the …
I was fascinated by this book. It was a dark, twisted, contemporary book that was quick paced, and scary fun. I loved the second person narrative (my first encounter).
I’ve read people compare it to “Lolita,” which I don’t buy – much darker, and more vulgar for sure. I was thinking, with the quickness of its pace, it read like Poe with the …
This has been such a fun read! I remember getting to the end of this book and feeling sad it was going to be done soon. Then my sister told me they were making a mini series of it!!
Well worth the read!!
Even though you know what probably will happen…you keep hoping that it doesn’t! Twisted and messed up but a fantastic read.
Loved it
There is only one possible way for this book to end, but you cheer for the villain the whole way through!
This book had me rooting, at times, for the wrong person. It was creepy. I have recommended this book to all my friends and they too were creeped out by their own thoughts. You must read this book!!!! And it will be a series on lifetime in September!!!
If you told me Caroline Kepnes was a psychotic man I would believe you because she wrote the part so well. I felt uneasy being in the main characters head. Check your locks and close your blinds.
I suggest listening to the audiobook, if you decide You is next on your to-read list. Narrator Santino Fontana has been perfectly cast for reading this novel. He manages to capture the snarky, narcissistic and obsessive Joe in a way you could never get from reading the book. Fontana presents Joe with the crazy, addled pace of a truly insane man’s …
So, I was recommended this book by someone in one of my online book groups. I honestly wasn’t positive what I was actually getting myself into. She was SO passionate about this book that I put all my trust in her and went in blind. WOW AM I HAPPY I DID! This book is about obsession and that’s about the only word I can use to describe my feelings …
The first half of the book was FANTASTIC. I loved Joe’s narrative. Hearing his inner dialogue was fascinating and had me flipping pages. It was interesting in this world of digital imprints how he tracked everyone and everything down. I loved it.
Then second half lost me a bit. Some chapters seemed like nothing was going on except for ramblings …
