From debut author Caroline Kepnes comes You, a brilliant and terrifying novel for the social media age.
When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card.
There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe … incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight — the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.
As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way — even if it means murder.
A terrifying exploration of how vulnerable we all are to stalking and manipulation, debut author Caroline Kepnes delivers a razor-sharp novel for our hyper-connected digital age. You is a compulsively readable page-turner that’s being compared to Gone Girl, American Psycho, and Stephen King’s Misery.

It was an interesting read from a stalker’s perspective, but it felt slow and dragging at the beginning, overly sexed in the middle, and in the end, I just couldn’t wait to finish the book so I could finally be done with Joe’s sick mind.
Didn’t like it at all
I hated this book.
After reading the cover blurb, I wanted to love this book on its premise alone, but the furtherI got into it the more and moreI ended up hating it. I ultimately finished it, whichI can’t believe, but it was just such a Mess! Then they turned it into a Netflix series? I absolutely will not watch it! The characters are just too screwed up!no …
Creepy, suspenseful, and very close to the show. Mature read. Language use. Adult situations. I was surprised characters like Beck were actually worse in the book. A promiscuous and attention-seeking girl whose passion is writing. I found it kind of difficult to like her. She by no means deserved to be stalked but I do wish she made it harder for …
What I call a “potato chip” read: thoroughly entertaining, difficult to put down.
It wasn’t as good as I expected.
I thought this was fantastic! I wish I’d read it before watching the Netflix series, but it was such a good read either way.
I simply just had to find this book after watching the Neflix Tv show. This book has it all; angst, suspense, romance and the thrill. Joe’s lurking skills is just WOW
I’m a little late to the game reading this book but have to say I am super happy that I finally got to it. This guy is so crazy and yet is able to explore how everyone else is instead. I loved hearing what his thoughts were throughout the book and am excited to see what the next book has for me.
I watched the Netflix show before reading the book and, as usual, the book is better (IMO). The book is only told from Joe’s point of view I found that I really didn’t like Beck much. She was very self-centered and materialistic in the book. She knows that men fall all over her and she uses that to her advantage. Her playing the poor little girl …
Completely insane read but oh so good!
So fun.
I am obsessed with all things Joe Goldberg. The murderer we love to hate.
Kepnes is a master! The way she weaves this world, sitting so comfortably in the mind of a man who should make us run, but instead makes us want to stick around and hear him out, is inspiring!
I’m obsessed with her words, her stories, and her characters. This book sucked …
To be fair, I listened to this as audiobook so I’m basing my review on the audio version which is excellent. The actor who narrates the book has the perfect voice for Joe. I tried watching the Netflix series and couldn’t make it more than 7 mins in and had to stop..because he wasn’t the Joe I knew from the audiobook and couldn’t do the role …
This book was fantastic. But not in that romantic-Joe-is-so-dreamy kind of way. More the he’s a fucked-up-mess-but-this-is-so-original-and-well-written-and-scary-but-I-can’t-put-it-down kind of way. This book nails it for what is wrong with so much of society and social media and people’s obsession with this obsessed boyfriend romance thing. Plus …
This was a great book, as many people know there is a Netflix series but I have to admit I love the book. The book really pulls you in making you not want to stop reading until the end. The story is very unpredictable, making you want to know what’s going to happen next.
This is a book a read within a few days!!! It is great and the 2nd book Hidden Bodies is just as wonderful!
Joe is a great lead in this story, you never know what to expect next and part of you is wanting Joe to make the right decisions and everything to work out.
This was one of the most enjoyable books I read this year. It was creepy and fascinating. Joe Goldberg is a brilliant, obsessive, narcissistic stalker. Normally, I don’t like people like that, but I couldn’t help but enjoy Joe’s twisted personality (and it helps this is a fictional book). The amount of effort and skill Joe put into stalking Beck …
Good read, could not put it down.
