You Will Never Leave: A psychological suspense thriller (Kindle Edition, my seventh read from author N.L. Hinkens. I enjoyed the suspense story-line with its intricately woven twists and turns. Norma (N.L.) Hinkens is on my radar of great authors! I was given an Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Narrator Mandy Fox’s narration adds to the book’s enjoyment. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
This is one of those books that you can’t help but read in a single setting because it’s that good! That enthralling! That suspenseful! What a way to begin a three-month camping trip, designed to be relaxing, therapeutic and peaceful! Getting stranded in the confines of an off-the-beaten-path campsite where your life becomes a psychological, life-threatening nightmare with an atmosphere of severe weather, murder, suspicion and distrust. And secrets! Each camper has a secret. Looking for a good psychological thriller? You’ve found it! Tension from start to finish, with exciting character evolution, and a finale that explodes in a well-orchestrated fashion!
A gripping tale of revenge and murder. Five applauding stars!
If you enjoy a suspenseful, well-crafted mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end, grab this book! Unlike some rather predictable whodunits, this story covered its tracks with mysterious characters and clever plot twists that left me completely clueless until the very end.
Here’s a tiny bit of the plot. (No spoilers–I promise.) Blair and her husband Matt (who’s been diagnosed with PTSD) decide a relaxing camping trip will help him heal. Relaxation is not in the cards, however, when a mudslide traps them in a remote campground with an odd assortment of secretive fellow campers, none of whom are exactly what they appear to be.
The rain never stops as mysterious deaths and disappearances soon have the remaining campers suspecting each other of being a killer. Each has the motive and/or skill to be a murderer, but who can it be? Can anyone be trusted? Can the killer be stopped before it’s too late?
As bodies decompose and fear spreads throughout the camp, our heroine “just wanted out of this mess before they all ended up dead. It was like a game of Clue with a cast of untrustworthy characters replete with baggage, weapons and motives, moving among trailers instead of rooms.” Exactly.
Professional editing and proofreading add the the enjoyment of this gripping tale. Highly recommended.
This is a solid 4.5 star
Matt and Blair’s holiday to help Matt shake off some of the stresses after returning from war and prior to starting their new business is not turning out as expected and is about to get worse. I loved the diverse range of people in the camp ground as you just like Matt felt they could be the killer but you also kept jumping between it being someone in the camp or someone outside of it. There are plenty of twists, red herrings, surprises and lies revealed with some that leave you speechless, this along with characters you love or love to hate and a storyline that has you glued to the pages makes this an addicted and fantastic read!!
You Will Never Leave is N. L. Hinkens best psychological suspense thriller yet! The story was so enthralling I couldn’t stop turning the pages.
Matt and Blair take off on a camping trip around the States hoping to help him recover from the PTSD brought on by a rough tour in Afghanistan. At one point on their trip they run into torrential rains that encourage them to take a detour from their planned route and stop at a nearer camping park. It is a small park with only a few camping spots for trailers. Those spots rapidly fill up due to the rain. Most of the campers seem friendly enough although due to Matt’s mental condition he suspects everyone of something. They plan to leave the following morning.
Then one of the campers find a body. Is the murderer one of their group of campers or is there someone else around? The rains cause a mudslide that prevents them from being able to leave. From that point their stay just goes downhill and it starts looking like they will never leave.
N. L. Hinkens put together a great cast of characters who each seems reluctant to tell certain aspects about themselves making everyone of them a possible suspect and yet you don’t really want to believe that any of them could be the murderer. Everyone of her books just keep getting better and better placing her higher on my must read list.
This book has more twists and turns than the world’s biggest waterslide. I would think I had it figured out but nope, I was wrong. You will not know until the end who done it! If you are a camper, you may never go camping again after you read this book! Superbly written with fantastic characters. Cannot wait for Hinkens’ next book. Enjoy!
I received an ebook from the author and this is my voluntary review.
