well, when fate says she has a plan and you choose to ignore it, she’s guna come back and make you listen.
and that’s all ill say.
i really did like this story.
im too lazy to get into it but i liked it and im so glad i picked it up.
Big buildup to a big letdown.
Goodness…..
I went in blind and I came out blown away!!!
I absolutely did not want to put this book down!!
Blown away y’all!! Make sure you add it to your TBR and don’t leave it there long cuz it’s AMAZING!!
I don’t even want to say one thing about what the book is about cuz going in blind is where it’s at!!
Fyi…the book is on sale right now so go snatch it up before the price goes back up!
I liked the main characters and hurt for their losses. I liked the dream premise and was unable to predict the outcome. I rooted for the husband and wife to stay madly in love and yet I wanted to see the dream lovers get together as well. An unpredictable ending and a good read.
Liked everything about it except for the ending!
This was such a well-written book, an intriguing joy to read that I couldn’t put down. Definitely a 5-star book for me, even though I went into it expecting a completely different romantic tale of fated love. I really didn’t want the ending I got and it left me feeling quite melancholy, but I’m still so glad I read it. This story will stay in my thoughts for a long time and, to me, that’s a sign of a tale of consequence.
I did not see the twists coming in this one. A beautiful story well told!
3.5 stars
Good storytelling, but I did not like the ending.
What I actually liked best about this book was the humor the author popped up with every now and then. It actually made me stop and laugh at some scenes. What I did not like was how it ended. I didn’t like the man she chose prior to a sad event. That’s just me. I was rooting for the other guy.
Powerful and emotional, heart wrenching and wonderful read. Such a great book with a lot of love, sadness and hope.
Wow! How can you not like a book that takes into a story of 2 people who have been dreaming of each other before they met. However the twist is the woman is married and is haunted about the scenes she dreams and the guy is worried about who dies in his dreams.
While the premise of the story sounded intriguing the story was nothing like I thought it was going to be.
I had a hard time getting in to it. I felt it was boring.
The ending was actually good, it made me cry and reminded me a lot of Marni Mann and her style of books.
While the ending was good I was hoping for a lot more of a scandal with Mia being married.
No synopsis here– how many of those do you need? You will love the characters. A touch of spooky whimsy thrown in. Our heroine is extremely likeable, as are the men in her life. Is she confused and torn? You bet she is. Perhaps we all would be. A unique take. Very enjoyable read.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I will definitely go back and read her two previous novels. The way she weaves a complicated plot together and makes even what might seem unbelievable believable was a joy to read.
Mia and Harrison and Oliver are superb characters whose interactions are written so deftly that I was never quite sure where the story might be going next. As troubles build in her marriage to Harrison, would Mia turn to Oliver the mystery man she met first in a dream? Just when that scenario seemed possible, another chapter would start that showcased the depth of love that Mia and Harrison have as husband and wife. So obviously, her destiny is to stay with Harrison.
Lurking under every interaction between Mia and these two men, are the questions. What do the dreams mean? Who is my true soul-mate?
The things outside of the control of the three main characters that pulled their lives together – then pushed them apart – then pulled them together again, were often quite surprising. The focus on dreams, and what they might mean, drove much of the plot of the book, and the research that Oliver and Mia did to try to figure out what was happening was most interesting. It was presented as an integral part of the story, and never felt like the author was just including a bunch of facts to show off her own research
It’s been a long time since I read a book that had me so involved with the characters, and invested in the plot, that I read in great swaths of time to see what would happen next. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to meet some wonderful characters and read an absolutely terrific story.
My Thoughts:
Mia and Harrison have a good marriage. They love each other, but like any couple they have their ups and downs. Mia wants a baby more than anything, but has known great pain after suffering two miscarriages. These two move from the big city to a small town where Harrison is a doctor, and Mia is trying be successful with her paintings. Mia has had vivid and reoccurring dreams of a man she doesn’t know. Imagine her shock, when she sees this man in real life. His name is Oliver, and fate keeps bringing him into her life. Mia can’t believe it when Oliver confesses that he’s been dreaming of her too. What could be the reason for their mutual dreaming of one another?
You Were There Too was a novel with a unique and intriguing premise. It started out a little slow, but took off once Oliver entered the picture. I enjoyed the mystery behind the dreams, and trying to guess their purpose. I loved the way the author kept me on my toes, and gave me a thoroughly unpredictable ending. Things did not turn out the way I thought they would. The ending broke my heart and had me in tears, but also offered an open-ended ray of hope. I have never read a story like this, and really enjoy when an author can deliver something that I’ve never seen done before. I found it refreshing, creative, and original.
This story tugged on my emotions, and was done in an authentic, and very realistic manner. This was my book club’s pick for June, and I am so glad that I discovered and read this book through them. If you are fascinated by dreams, and are looking for an original and unique storyline, that is unpredictable, I recommend you check out, You Were There Too; but far warning, have tissues nearby!
Often times, when I finish a book I instantly write the review. However, with this one, I had to wait a bit, allow myself to let what I read sink in.
This was a different story, I guess not only then what I expected, but also a story I’ve never read before, fresh and innovative. Even though there were several characters, the author did a great job of not allowing the reader to be overwhelmed with switching viewpoints and labeled them as needed. But also because the characters all weaved together nicely. I think if the ending had been a bit less rushed and offered more closure, then I would’ve given it five stars.
Perfect quarantine escape ! Oakley writes a wonderful story chock full of depth and heart.
I started this book intending to read just a few chapters. Didn’t work out that way!!! Couldn’t stop until the end. A creative, original premise and characters that stay with you even after it’s over.
Colleen Oakley has given us an emotional and thought-provoking page-turner with “You Were There Too”.
Once I picked this up, I found myself not wanting to do anything but keep reading until I finished.
The characters were faced with many difficult and tough decisions throughout this novel.
The ending was definitely unexpected and wowed me!
I am thrilled that this was selected as our book club read this month. I have found another new author, and I look forward to reading her other books.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for fair and honest review.
