I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway from Berkley Publishing, and I’m so glad I started it right off, I am definitely a new fan.
Mia has been desperate to have a child with her husband Harrison, spending their savings on IVF. But when she meets the man, Oliver, who she has dreamed about for years, her dreams of a child are put on the backburner as she tries to discover this intense connection to the man that has haunted her dreams for years. For he too, has dreamed of her. What could it all mean and why are they dreaming of each other?
Mia’s husband is amazing. He’s incredibly patient because let’s face it, Mia grows obsessed with Oliver, she’s doing everything she can to spend time with him and to figure out how they are connected. Harrison is also dealing with a painful loss of a young patient, and while he is going through his own thing, he’s trying to be supportive of Mia. I love the connection Mia and Harrison share because no matter how far it seems she would stray for Oliver, it’s her love for Harrison that keeps reining her in.
I know a lot of people hated the ending, I didn’t. It was bittersweet, it was a hard pill to swallow, but I think, it ended what was already a beautiful book on a beautiful note. The book stayed with me for days because it’s powerful. That level of connection we have to seemingly random strangers, Oakley explores that in this book, but she always ties it back to the connection that Mia and Harrison share. Wonderful characters with an engaging storyline, from beginning to end, I’m in love. There were tears, so many tears, but they were good tears. This was so very well done, I loved it.
Colleen Oakley’s You Were there Too had me wondering from the very beginning where she was going with this book. This book made the reader suspicious about how it was going to end. Then a little more than halfway through *bam* things started happing faster. The plot started moving like an avalanche. The ending was a total shock. The characters and the main concept were interesting. I would recommend You Were There Too.
Well..how to review without spoilers but say my feelings….I didn’t hate it. This was my first Colleen Oakley book. The actual writing was excellent. I did not like the plot. Kind of. I will say that this is a somber book. I felt like I had a gray cloud over me the whole time. And it got progressively more somber. I read to escape the real life awfulness so I needed a pallet cleanser after this.

How many of us can remember a dream, yet a recurring one that keeps us wondering why this occurs? Is this from the sub-conscious? Perhaps overeating and drinking before sleeping? Something predicting a future event? Symbolic occurrence? Is this a form of anxiety or emotional disturbance? Mia Graydon often has dreams that star a man she has yet to meet.
Mia is happily married and hoping to have children. She is very artistic and has a nice house. When she and her husband move to this community, she meets the man she has been dreaming about. When they start talking, he tells her that he has had dreams with Mia in his as well. As they try to discover what the dreams mean, they have no idea what danger lies ahead.
I like the way the author vividly describes the characters, landscape, and setting. I also appreciate the importance of thinking things through, following your heart, the importance of family, friends, love, and hope. I would highly recommend this thought-provoking and emotional novel.
I discovered Colleen thanks to her debut (Before I Go), which made me cry and laugh and ugly cry-laugh, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on You Were There Too. The story begins on a brilliant premise: two strangers who know each other through dreams, one of them happily married to another man until their lives intersect. Colleen is brilliant at creating real-life characters and injecting the most heart-rending subjects with an unexpected and dry humor. And the ending! OMG the ending was so emotional and so perfect, I will be thinking of Mia and Harrison and Oliver for years to come. All the stars
Mia and Harrison have a good marriage and they are starting a family. The only problem is Mia has been having a dreams of stranger she has never met for years. When Mia meets the man she has been dreaming of, she finds out he has been dreaming about her! Is Mia’s future with her husband Harrison or does fate have other plans and want her with Oliver? This book is the ultimate love story! It shows the ups and downs of marriage, the deep sadness of fertility problems, and the pure joy of love. This book ripped my heart out and made me bawl like a newborn baby. I loved every single word, paragraph, and page. This is THE book I will be recommending to everyone as the MUST read book! I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.
