A woman on a mission – Phoebe Graham is a specialist in deep cover espionage, infiltrating the enemy, observing their practices, and when necessary eliminating the threat. Her latest assignment is McKay-Taggart Security Services, staffed with former military and intelligence operatives. They routinely perform clandestine operations all over the world but it isn’t until Jesse Murdoch joins the … team that her radar starts spinning. Unfortunately so does her head. He’s gorgeous and sweet and her instincts tell her to trust him but she’s been burned before, so he’ll stay where he belongs–squarely in her sights. A man on the run. Since the moment his Army unit was captured by jihadists, Jesse’s life has been a nightmare. Forced to watch as those monsters tortured and killed his friends and the woman he loved, something inside him snapped. When he’s finally rescued, everyone has the same question–why did he alone survive? Clouded in accusations and haunted by the faces of those he failed, Jesse struggles in civilian life until McKay-Taggart takes him in. Spending time with Phoebe, the shy and beautiful accountant, makes him feel human for the first time in forever. If someone so innocent and sweet could accept him, maybe he could truly be redeemed. A love they never expected. When Phoebe receives the order to eliminate Jesse, she must choose between the job she’s dedicated her life to and the man who’s stolen her heart. Choosing Jesse would mean abandoning everything she believes in, and it might mean sharing his fate because a shadowy killer is dedicated to finishing the job started in Iraq.

Goodness. Since the end of the previous book, I was on needles and pins waiting to read this one to see what happened. There are so many twists and turns, betrayals, double crosses, and more in this series with plenty of all of those in this book alone. Phoebe doesn’t expect to ever find love again but for some reason she keeps championing Jesse, especially to Ian. For Jesse, he’s been working on healing from his time spent in captivity and where he was the only survivor. Having Simon as his partner has helped but Phoebe is able to tame to deadly beast in him. Loved the fight scene between Taggart’s team and Ten’s team.
Jesse and Phoebe relationship started off a little bit rocky, becasue she had lied to the whole about who she was and what she was.. But Jesse stilled loved even through Phoebe had lied to him… When Phoebe had gotten the kill order to Jesse she wasn’t able to do it because she had fall in love with Jesse… Once they got their misson and had to go across seas in order to take down the bad guy, it was then that Phoebe decovered that Jesse had no intention on letting her go… Phoebe finally told Jesse the secret that she was hiding from him… To Phoebe’s surprise Jesse had a message from her dead husband James… Before having her in all the ways suppose Jesse had asked Phoebe to marry him and she said yes… Once Phoebe had woken up she had to go find her brother Ten, to let him know that she and Jesse where staying together and she would not be leaving with him to go back to the United States with when his plane left in 2 hours.. Ten already know that she would not be leaving with him, he told her that he would give Jesse a a year to ask for her hand in marriage , Jesse had already had done so and Phoebe told Ten that she said yes to him… Then all hell breakes loose and Jesse was taken, but this time Phoebe was determined to find him before and more damage could be done to him, because she know that she would not be able to survive this again and she wanted to live the rest of life with Jesse… Once they had found Jesse all they had to do know is make it out alive and make it back home with no problems., Finally the wedding day came for Jesses and Phoebe to get married and James an Ten were both there… James was there in spirit and Ten was hiding in the shadows so that he wouldn’t be caught or everybody in harms way by being there because after all Tennesse Smith was excommunicated from his job, but Ten did figure out how to get the info that they need
I love Lexi Blake and this whole series is amazing!
I am giving this book 4 stars. I decided while listening to it that was was not going to hold my dislike of Phoebe against the book.
I liked EVERYBODY, (with the exception of the bad guys), but Phoebe. Even the bad guys were written so well that there was no hesitation in disliking them. I got so tired of her referring to herself as married long after her husband was dead. I got tired of her keeping the truth from Jesse. I was just tired of her.
I did like the way Jesse went from being an idiot grunt to exhibiting some thoughtfulness and intelligence. The last book had Jesse being almost robotic. I couldn’t understand them letting him into Sanctum if he wasn’t somewhat high functioning.
As usual, the gang was all there with a few additions from Ten’s team. The beginning of this book to the end was a rollercoaster ride. This group couldn’t even manage a calm, controlled baby shower.
I thought the weakest part of the book was Jesse and Phoebe’s relationship. I liked Jesse, but I could not connect with Phoebe at all, and did not get a sense of chemistry between the two. I know it was written, but it was not “felt” by me.
I still wish we would get a little more of the couple being together in their own book after all of the drama ends. The next book does show them being a couple, so I guess we have to live with that. Lol.
On to Ten’s book!
This series is filled with great stories. Suspense, action and romance in one package.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Good dialogues
Some characters is familiar from previous books and some new one enters. The authors has a nice way to bind the story together without making the stories too difficult to get the hang of.
Sizzling chemistry between the couples is always there.
The main characters in this story has lived through some challenging times and I think they were meant to find each other.
5 stars
I love this series. It goes so much further than a romantic suspense or an erotic novel, it really finds a wonderful balance between the two. There is a real story here, and it’s a shame that so many people write it off as smut. Their loss.
Let’s start with Jesse, blond hair, blue eyed, sweet, damaged Jesse. Good luck trying not to fall for him a little and wish he was real. Phoebe was a bit of a mystery in the beginning, but after you see all she went threw you understand her better. Once she decides she has some fight in her she really becomes a good character. Her character growth really is phenomenal.
As usual I can’t wait to dive into the next book because it seems Lexi Blake only knows how to write addicting novels.
The book was very good fast paced. But you have to But the others in the series it is not a standalone book but very enjoyable and witty
I absolutely loved this whole series. I go back and reread them often. Can’t get enough of these guys!!!
Wow! This book is so action packed I found myself holding my breath waiting for what would happen next. In addition, Jesse and Phoebe’s story is highly emotional. Lexi Blakes weaves intricate word pictures that allow you to feel the pulsating highs and the depth of despair lows that her characters are experiencing. As a result this was the quintessential reading experience.
This one just about killed me! I’ve always had a soft spot for Jessie and Jessie has fallen for Phoebe, the accountant. We learn Phoebe is not who she everyone thinks she is. She get a message to go kill someone and that someone turns out to be Jessie. Fortunately she can’t do it but the men from McKay-Taggart has already figured out something was up with Phoebe and had been following her and now they have questions. Poor Jessie is devastated and Phoebe is confused because she does care for Jessie. We get Tennessee Smith and his men in this book. Lots of laughs and tons of action and the heat level is off the charts.
