LIEUTENANT EVE SHARPE should have seen the avalanche of trouble headed her way but events had dulled her edge and crumbled her foundation of toughness. With the press and politicians all coming for her, Eve begins to question whether she is really a cold blooded murderer or simply losing her mind. Was it an officer involved shooting gone wrong? An honest mistake? Or, something much, much worse?… worse?
There’s one thing for sure, it has turned the Chicago Police Department upside down, and Lieutenant Eve Sharpe’s life along with it.

This book was such an exciting, suspenseful, intriguing, engaging, and entertaining mystery read that took off right from page one and kept me on my toes the entire way through!!
I really enjoyed reading this book and could not put it down!!
Although, early in the year, this book has easily become a favorite and I know will be one of the top books I will have read and reviewed this year!!!
I really enjoyed the main characters, Lt. Eve “Evie,” Sharpe, her partner Walt, Clark, Kiki, and of course Eve’s kitty Jackson. I really liked Eve!! She was sassy, bold, smart, tough, brave, confident, caring, considerate, determined, and stubborn. I love strong female lead characters and Eve was just that! I love how hard she works to solve the case and clear her name. Although, there are several times she tends to distrust her own memory and the guilt of taking a young girls life weighs heavy on her. However, it is Eve’s admiration, devotion, deep honesty, integrity, and resolution that really prove her character is not capable of making such a reckless mistake and that she must continue to pursue all leads to get down to the bottom of the case and figure out what really happened. Did she really kill the Mayor’s daughter, Becky Walsh? Or was she there at the wrong place at the wrong time? Or was this a skillfully crafted set up? But Eve is not going to get any sleep until she clears this up. And even then, after taking a young girl’s life accidentally or not, is not something to get over lightly.
I also enjoyed the supporting characters, both the good ones and bad ones, as they all had their special role. There were quite a few characters in this book, but each one felt important and unique to the story line.
This book is full of lies, secrets, drugs, trafficking, extortion, corruption, criminal conspiracy, and of course… Murder!!!
There is so much going on in this book!! This book has so many different layers with several plot points that are well executed and structurally sound!! I thoroughly enjoyed pulling back each layer and seeing where it took me… I thought this book was going to be a straight-forward accidental police involved shooting book, but it also had deeper, intricate, complex, and elaborate story lines as well.
I love the in-depth amount of research the author did while constructing this book. It is clear he is very familiar and well-versed in the criminal procedural practices. The author provided so much detail and such vivid descriptions it made the scenes easy to picture. These particulars were so well-described they felt both realistic and authentic.
This book has exceptional mystery crime solving structure with enough clues and excitement to keep you guessing, but still practical and realistic.
There were a few predictable scenes. However, there are still many unexpected twists and turns and misdirection’s that you won’t see coming!
This book has a creative story line with well executed plot points, excellent mystery thriller structured scenarios, fantastic writing style with detailed scenes, relatable characters, is fast paced, and keeps you fully engaged and entertained.
This book is book one in the Lt. Eve Sharpe Thriller Book Series. It can be read as a standalone. There seems to be three additional Lt. Eve Sharpe Book Series books that have already been released and are available for purchase with one additional book coming out soon.
All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it! I think all mystery, thriller, and suspense readers will like this book too! So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading – you won’t be disappointed!

Sometimes things happen and there is no question in your mind you are doing the right thing. Then people can be so against you that you begin to question yourself. Such is the dilemma of Eve Sharpe.
I enjoyed this book. It is called a mystery/thriller genre. I felt it should almost be categorized as crime fiction because of its descriptive writing of police procedures and investigations. Another reason I liked reading this good cop/bad cop book was that while it does have those moments of making you gasp, it isn’t a thriller in the sense of having to read all of the grisly details over and over.
I liked LeRoy’s characters. Eve was of course my favorite. It seemed to me there were a lot of characters involved which can sometimes make for confusing reading, but the author seemed to keep them clear and well-defined.
This is an easy, fast read and I want to read more of her books.
