This is a beautiful, touching story of enemies to lovers. You will be enthralled with the characters and the storyline from beginning to end.
Sydney Evans lives for her career, and while she’s very successful professionally, she lives a lonely life. Her boss has become a father figure to her, and when he comes with some bad news and propositions her with the opportunity of a lifetime, she can’t say no to him. Enter Scott Blackstone, the wild son of Sydney’s boss, better yet the reformed wild boy of Mr. Blackstone, now a successful owner of a very profitable ranch in Wyoming, he left his womanizing ways behind and now is a respectable businessman. Two people who can’t stand each other, a marriage of convenience, and two lives who are about to get rocked by a secret.
Dangelico did such an amazing job with this book. Every little detail was crafted perfectly, from the push and pull between Scott and Sydney, to the incredible attraction between them, the chemistry that they didn’t see coming, and the heartbreak when things are left unsaid. I loved Sydney and Scott so much, they were so strong and they had so much to offer to each other. The secondary characters added a nice touch of sugar and spice mixed with some humor to this story.
Perfection is what it this book is, including the writing which in my opinion, was flawless. Don’t miss it!!! One of the best books you’ll read this year.
This one took me by surprise. I figured I would start it since it was a rainy morning and pick it back up after doing some adulting stuff. Yeah, I ended up reading the whole thing this afternoon and said screw my adulting stuff. Oh man, Sydney and Scott had me feeling all emotional in my heart place. There was a time or two that my eyeballs were sweating a little. The angst was real and strong in those parts! Since I couldn’t put it down, it’s obvious that I really enjoyed this book.
Sydney endured terrible abuse from her grandpatents, who raised her, and overcame it to become General Counsel for multibillion-dollar real estate company. When her mentor, the CEO, asks her to marry his son, she does, even though she hates him. Her life will never be the same! This is a great book! I will be looking for other books by this author!
Enemies to lovers and marriage of convenience are two of my favorite tropes and P. Dangelico perfectly combines the two. You Can Have Manhattan was everything that I hoped it would be and more. Stormy, deliciously sexy with touches of humor, this was one book I devoured cover to cover.
I’m not usually a fan of slow burn relationships, but You Can Have Manhattan does it so well! Scott and Sydney were all the things! Their constant push and pull made for some great tension and verbal sparring. Underneath their stormy relationship was plenty of sizzling chemistry and often hilarious moments. I found myself laughing throughout at their antics and I, too, slowly began to fall along with them. I loved that Sydney held her own. She’s a strong woman and I absolutely loved that about her. By the end I was a swooning mess, needed them to finally reach their HEA, but didn’t want their story to end. 5 stars. Thank
You Can Have Manhattan by P. Dangelico is a standalone contemporary romance that is enemies to lovers / fake marriage / second chances tropes all rolled into one excellent and awesome emotional story! This story of Sydney Evans & Scott Blackstone is phenomenal. I couldn’t put it down and it elicited ALL the feels. From each of their misinformed opinions of each other, the distant relationship Scott has with his father, the underhanded behavior, the reactions and the emotions and the attraction was palpable in every page. I absolutely loved this and HIGHLY recommend it! Enjoy!
OMG I’m in love!! This has become my next favourite after Marriage for One in the marriage-of-convenience trope. This book is very well written with a story line that will grab your attention quickly.
Sydney is a strong, intelligent and beautiful woman, but a tiny bit broken from her past. She’s an attorney and works for a man who has been like a father to her and gave her everything, so when he tells her he’s dying, then he hits her with his plan that she cannot refuse, she couldn’t believe it and thought that was a joke. She must marry his son Scott so that she can take over the company that he himself built. His son, who is a party whore.
What she doesn’t know is that Scott Blackstone has turned his life around, and now runs a successful cattle ranch in Wyoming. In order for his father’s plan to work, Scott gets blackmailed by his father to marry Sydney, or he might lose everything. This made him hate her somehow, without realising he could’ve rejected his father’s plan. But he didn’t.
With Scott, you will find yourself not liking him, then loving him, then hating him, then feeling sorry for him and finally loving him again. None of this is easy on either of them, but Scott has made it even harder, until he finds himself seriously attracted to his “wife”. Thank god, Sydney put up with him until one secret couldn’t get past Scott and she walked away from him.
The banter between Sydney and Scott was hilarious at times, and I absolutely adored the secondary characters in this book. This book was so well written. A story that will have your emotions all over the place, a read that will hold you tightly and a couple that will capture your heart and not release it. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. An absolute joy to read!
This book was phenomenal! This enemies to lovers, slow burn romance had me hooked from the first page. The way these characters skirted around each other and tried to stay civil had me laughing several times, and their chemistry was off the charts. There was no denying they were going to combust at one point.
Scott is a playboy who has changed his ways. He avoids everything Manhattan and has no desire to follow in his father’s footsteps. He has built a life for himself on the ranch. One he loves, and one that gives him peace. He is out to prove to himself and others that he is better than his old self.
Sydney is a women in a man’s world. She is constantly proving she is the best and that is why she is Franks’s general counsel. She is the best and nobody is going to tell her otherwise. Unfortunately, the way she stays on top is because all she does is work. She has a past to hide from, and she has little to no time for outside distractions.
This marriage isn’t one for convenience or want. They both try to find ways for the other one to back out. The back and forth antics and intense stare downs basically had sparks flying off the page. You could feel the tension and knew that it was going to be amazing when they finally let go!
The ending was my absolute favorite. The couple played it out perfectly. What happened needed to happen in order for their relationship to stand the test of time, and there wasn’t an instant forgiveness. They earned forgiveness and proved they were in it for the long haul. This made the story more genuine and realistic.
The secondary characters played a big part in this book. They were the glue that held the book together and held the couple together. Their comments and actions proved that they were loyal, but they knew what was best for each main character. I really hope some of them get their own story in the future.

This was my first P. Dangelico’s books, and won’t be my last. I loved it! You Can Have Manhattan is a sweet, fun, heartwarming, and beautiful romance. This is also a great slow burn story, enemies to lovers, and marriage of convenience. Sydney and Scott are both great characters. This story is well written. I loved the Epilogue. I enjoyed reading this story. I’m looking forward for more books written by this author.
Love and hate
This is only my second book by this author, but she’s been on my “read more from” list as I really liked that first book, so I decided to go ahead and give this a try.
I’m torn on this one. On the one hand, I have to give credit to the author, because she really made me feel for these characters. For much of the book, I hated Scott. HATED him. I usually like enemies to lovers stories but Scott’s relationship with Sydney was so antagonistic that the story almost went beyond enemies to lovers territory into the bully romance category that’s so popular now, except these are adults in their thirties instead of high school kids. I get that Scott was trying to discourage Sydney from the marriage but he was so much of an a-hole to her, he was plain mean, and it diminished most of my sympathy for his situation. His reaction just seemed out of proportion to me, an overreaction that happened again much later in the book to a different event. He’s supposed to have changed from that self-centered playboy Sydney starts off thinking he is, but those overreactions just made me think that, in some ways, he hasn’t changed at all.
I disliked Scott so much, in fact, I didn’t feel the chemistry between Scott and Sydney for the first half of the book; it felt forced to me, and I didn’t get why Sydney even kept smiling at him. While he may have had private regrets about how he was treating her, he never showed her that, and I lost respect for her when she got all melty for him when he deserved a knee to the balls—she was supposed to be this gung ho, wheeler dealer lawyer, yet when it came to Scott, it was like she had no spine at all. It wasn’t until about 75% in that we finally get an explanation for why Sydney was willing to even give him a chance from the start.
In spite of all this, there were some sections of the book I absolutely loved (when Scott was NOT being an a-hole). For instance, when Scott helps Sydney deal with her past, or when Scott’s sister Devyn has a ”come to Jesus” talk with him—boy, was I cheering her on, and it made me wish she had her own book, lol. There were also nice moments of humor and great secondary characters—besides Devyn (who has a relatively minor if important role), I loved Laurel, Ryan, and Miller, and the brief glimpse we got of Drake was intriguing and has me hoping he’s going to get a book of his own. While there was some secret keeping as part of the plot, something that’s usually a pet peeve of mine, I actually didn’t mind it here, as I felt It wasn’t Sydney’s secret to tell.
So, if a-hole heroes are your jam, Scott’s your man. At the end of the day, while there were sections I loved, I hated Scott too much for too long. It hasn’t put me off the author because I do appreciate the effort and artistry required to evoke that strong of a reaction; this book is just never going to be a personal favorite. 3.5 stars

I am a big fan of “marriage of convenience” plots, but most of my favorites to date have been found in historical romances. It seems that this particular trope is harder to pull off successfully in a contemporary romance, but P. Dangelico does so spectacularly well in “You Can Have Manhattan.” There was also an element of enemies-to-lovers here that I particularly enjoyed because it led to some great banter between the main characters, Sydney and Scott. There were some enjoyably funny parts in this book, particularly when Sydney decides to “revenge decorate” Scott’s cabin. At the same time, the book managed to tug at my heartstrings because Scott and Sydney were so obviously in love with each other, but the obstacles keeping them apart seemed insurmountable at times.
I found Sydney to be a very complex and well-developed main character. At first, she seemed so happily independent, entirely devoted to her job, and closed off from forming any outside attachments, but underneath all of that she was actually yearning for the love of a family. She had a very domestic side with her cooking and baking hobbies, and was keeping a number of dark secrets from her childhood that no one who knew her in New York ever seemed to suspect.
As for Scott, I found him a bit tough to figure out at first, but that may have been because a lot of my initial impression of him came through Sydney’s observations, and she still thought of him as the wild partier he was before he left New York for Wyoming. However, he grew up a lot in the years that he was away and had secrets of his own that significantly impacted the way he chose to live his life. As it turned out, both Sydney and Scott had outdated and flawed perceptions of the other, and they had to overcome these misconceptions before they could start to trust each other and build a loving relationship. Unfortunately, just as they are forming that trust, additional secrets come to light that shatter their fragile understanding, and they must fight to find their way back to each other.
Overall, I loved this book and highly recommend it. I look forward to reading more of P. Dangelico’s books in the future.

This is a classic enemies to lovers tale, but when I read the blurb and saw it was by P.Dangelico I knew I had to read it! This author is a new age contemporary romance writer that gives major old school romance feels! The author has a was of incorporating this vibe In book I’ve read… and it gives for a addictive, emotive and compelling type of story that just takes no prisoners when it comes to all the feels! And this book follows that winning combination!
Perceived perception is everything in this book the ice princess Sydney and party boy Scott are thrown together in a marriage of (in)convenience…sparks flare and tempers run wild. Somethings gotta change for the marriage to work. A couple thrown together, with a clash of Hearts, opinions and attitudes…some for the better some for the worse.
There is an instant connection but almost slow burn chemistry between the two main characters that makes for a realistic and believable development of relationship.
I truly could have kicked Scott a fair number of times for his utter pig headedness…#NoSpoilers Equal parts tear jerker, steamy read and emotional heartbreaker, this book was a really enjoyable read.
6 Amazing Stars!
I was sure I’d like You Can Have Manhattan, the blurb caught my eye and I love the marriage-of-convenience trope, but what I didn’t expect was how much I loved this poignant romance. It’s definitely going on my #TopRead2019 list; this amazing and well-written Slow Burn love story hit so many buttons, it’s going to be a well-read favorite for years to come! I loved it was told in dual POV and the main characters, Sydney and Scott, had such explosive chemistry, their storyline was so incredibly well developed that you felt (and fell) for both of them. It’s angsty and funny and when you aren’t crying tears of sorrow you’ll be crying tears of joy. I’ll have Wyoming, instead of Manhattan, any day of the week, and twice on Sunday!
“I don’t trust your love. It’s as deep as a spray on suntan and I need someone to love me to the bone.”
Sydney Evans started working for Frank Blackstone, the CEO of Blackstone Holdings, since graduating from law school ten years ago. She considered Frank her friend, mentor and father figure, and with no friends, family or personal life outside of work to distract her, she was named general counsel at thirty-four. Sydney was raised by her strict grandparents, both religious zealots, after her parents died in a car accident when she was three. When she left home seventeen years ago, to go to school, she never looked back.
“At work, I was a rockstar. Everywhere else in my life I was rock bottom. This was it. All I was. Full of holes, emotions worn-out, nerves shot to hell from keeping everything bottled up.”
Scott Blackstone was the apparent heir of Blackstone, but Frank had no desire to see his only son take over and Scott had never shown an interest in the family business. Before moving to Wyoming eight years ago he had been one of NYC’s most infamous playboys, partying and drinking the nights away. Now the owner of the Lazy S Ranch, with thirty-thousand head of cattle, the reformed manwhore was a hard working cowboy.
Frank gives Sydney some devastating news and he tells her, as his lawyer, she needs to keep it a secret. He then makes her an offer she can’t refuse; to be named CEO of Blackstone. But it comes with a steep price; Sydney has to marry Scott, a man she despises, for three years minimum and scandal free. Frank informs Scott he has to marry Sydney, knowing he won’t be able to refuse, and he’s not happy being blackmailed into marriage.
“I learned an invaluable lesson that day. If I could make a deal with that devil, I could make a deal with anyone.”
They both agree to the sham marriage, knowing it’s beneficial to the other, and Sydney is told she has to go back and forth, living part time with Scott to make the marriage look real. Soon they both realize how wrong the misconceptions they had of each other were, as they begin to spend more time together and grow closer. They begin to trust each other and soon develop real feelings. Until Frank’s secret is revealed and Scott is devastated, feeling betrayed, and everything he felt is wiped away as if it never existed. Sydney is the one that loses everything she ever loved.
“Now that the fog of war had cleared, hearing it stated plainly made me cringe in shame.”
This story made me weep more than once, it’s so moving, and just when you think all hope is lost we get a beautiful and happy end. This cover made me appreciate it even more, I love it so much!
P. Dangelico has done it again. She has a beautiful habit of creating characters that not only capture your heart but bewitch your soul as well. I cried, I laughed, I loved.
This book had everything I adore in a book,
Enemies-to-lovers
Marriage of convenience
Strong independent woman
Reformed Manwhore
Off the charts sexual tension
Adorable giant dogs
Tear jerking moments
Tragic past
We are introduced to a heroine who seems to have it all. To want for nothing. She is on top of her game career wise and she is about to accomplish far more but it all comes with a stipulation, marry the son of her boss. A boss who is like a father figure to her. Sydney has an strong dislike to the junior Blackstone. Their first meeting did not go well and from that time, Sydney has only been hearing about playboy party Scott’s antics. If only turning down her boss was easy…
I constantly had tears in my eyes reading this book. My heart bled for Sydney and Scott did not make it any easier on her. Gosh, I hated him so much in some parts. He deserved a good smacking! He judged and hurt Sydney so harshly without talking to her first. He was such an a**hole… but I still loved him.
I was in a major book funk before reading this book. Nothing I read grasped my attention but this book pulled on my heart strings and kept my eyes glued to it from page one so thank you P. Dangelico for getting me out of this funk.
A must read author for me!!!
Sometimes I have a difficult time with the enemies-to-lovers’ trope because there doesn’t seem to be a foundation for the characters’ respective hatred for one another…there’s not a backstory that places them in the same spot, forcing them to have less than stellar interactions and be a catalyst for future encounters.
Sydney Evans and Scott Blackstone have a past that proves rather challenging for the marriage of convenience that these two are supposed go through with as a business partnership but also as a way for Scott’s father to keep him in line and in a town that’s so far removed from Manhattan – a place Scott has built a life in and helped him become a better man.
What I loved the most about Sydney and Scott and the interactions they have as they attempt to ‘play nice’ and follow his father’s dictates. These two are about as evenly matched as I’ve ever seen when it comes two rivals and because there seems to be a lot on the line for both of them, they’re willing to play a bit dirty in order to get what they want. As a reader, that idea works in our favor because we get to witness how explosive these two are together and how the sexual tension that surrounds them builds to the point that it’s just a matter of time before Sydney and Scott have to decide what’s most important in the relationship that they’ve been faking.
Dangelico does an amazing job with the back and forth, push and pull that exists between her hero and heroine. When these two are anywhere near each other, it’s a combustible situation; their emotions are high and their tempers flare easily, which means that if they don’t find a way to cope with their growing feelings for the other, they could potentially ruin everything that brought them together in the first place.
Both Sydney and Scott are interesting characters – they’re headstrong, driven, intelligent, quick witted, and more. They actually complement each other quite well, not that they would ever admit to that. I do have to give Scott credit for how he turned his life around after being casted as the arrogant rich playboy. He made something of himself without his family’s help and he also forged a new path – one that he feels pride in, so the fact that his father puts him in a situation that he wants nothing to do with is maddening, so I can’t say that I blame him for his antics, but I also can’t blame Sydney for taking his father up on his offer either.
Marriages of convenience, at least in romance stories, never stay convenient; they become incredibly complicated and maddening because of what the couple begin to feel toward one another and their stakes in why they went into it in the first place. I liked the path that Dangelico made for her hero and heroine – it fit them as characters and getting both of their perspectives allowed readers to truly see the two sides, which is important in an enemies-to-lovers’ storyline.
With a tagline that states “You are cordially invited to the worst wedding of the century,” how could I not want to dive into P. Dangelico’s newest release, You Can Have Manhattan. And I’m glad I did, because I thoroughly enjoyed Sydney and Scott’s story!
4.5 Poison Apples
Book Details
Mr. Frank Blackstone wants his company to stay within the family, so he manipulates his head lawyer, Sydney, into marrying his playboy turned rancher son, Scott so that Sydney can become CEO. The two had met years before but aside from being attracted to each other, they had each other pegged as something they weren’t and couldn’t stand each other. You Can Have Manhattan has to be hands down my favourite fake marriage of convenience story. Not only does it have off the charts chemistry between our two leading characters but it has a lot of humor and emotion. The sparring and evolving enemies to lovers relationship that these two develop keeps you completely gripped and a little upset when it ends because there isn’t more to read.
Woah, so I picked this up intending to only read a little bit and next thing I knew I was finishing the book. P. Dangelico knows how to write a book, her ability to suck me into a plot is amazing and You Can Have Manhattan did just that for me. From page one I was hooked.
Sydney and Scott’s story was awesome!! I loved how the author played in Sydney… She didn’t have the best childhood, but she was strong and she wanted to try a relationship, She knew how to hold her own and she didn’t scare easy and to me, I found strength in that.
Scott at times got on my nerves, he didn’t want this “marriage” to Sydney and he was doing everything he could to make sure she would have her running for the hills, and some of the things he did, I just wanted to slap him but I think his character was perfect the way he was written. Sure, I wanted to slap him but I also think these two and how they come about, how they try and push each others buttons, how he tries to scare her off… It was just perfect!
The chemistry between these two? Holy shit… And sexual tension… It just continued to build. I love a slow burn, as much as the drive me crazy, I LOVE THEM… And this one was perfect. It hit all the right spots, ticked all the right boxes, and gave me ALL THE FEELS!
The author’s writing is flawless, I read it with ease, and it flowed perfectly. This amazing story was perfect, all-consuming, addictive as hell, and extremely well written.
PERFECTION and I wish I could rate it more than 5 stars!
Outstanding read! This book is very well written with a story line that will grab your attention quickly and hold on to it right to the very (funny) end. I loved Sydney. She’s strong, intelligent, beautiful and a tiny bit broken. She’s an attorney and works for a man who has been like a father to her, so when he tells her he’s dying, she thinks he’s joking at first but then realizes that he isn’t. Then he hits her with his plan…one that she cannot refuse to agree to. She must marry his son Scott so that she can take over the company that he himself built.
Scott had always been a partying man-whore, but it’s been a while since Sydney had seen him and looking at the dazzling handsome man standing before her. He looks different to her, more rugged, more..everything. Then he opens his mouth and his disdain for this situation comes flying out. This will not be easy. With Scott, you will find yourself not liking him, then loving him, then hating him, then feeling sorry for him and finally loving him again. None of this is easy on either of them, but Scott has made it even harder, until he finds himself seriously attracted to his “wife”.
A story that will have your emotions all over the place, a read that will hold you tightly and not let you go, a couple that will capture your heart and not release it. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. An absolute joy to read.
P. Dangelico is one of the few authors who I will buy/one-click a book from automatically. She is a wonderful storyteller with characters I can both relate to and root for from page one.
Sydney and Scott do not like each other, but circumstances throw them into a marriage of convenience. Having the dual POV to see how they view each other and how those opinions slowly evolved was perfect. As they adjusted to their new marriage the story is infused with humor, jokes, frustrations, and wrong assumptions. I liked both Sydney and Scott through those moments. However, I came to love them the further I read. It was amazing seeing them grow closer and learn to appreciate and care for each other.
As always the secondary characters add a lot to the book and I hope we see more from them too. Especially the employees of Scott’s ranch.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
Dangelico is hands down one of those rare authors that I automatically read no matter what. She has a way with words to create such unforgettable characters and moments that just make your heart want to burst. You Can Have Manhattan just ticks all the right boxes for me and is another one of Dangelico’s gems that you don’t want to miss.
What is it about slow burn romances that just hit me right in the ticker? I can’t imagine that this type of romance novel is easy to write AT ALL because you have to craft the angst and the yearning and the desire JUST RIGHT and Dangelico seems to do it every time in her books. I’m serious. EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Now if you craft a slow burn romance and add in a fake relationship into the mix…that just creates an all the feels heaven for me. This book made me FEEL and it made me LAUGH and it made me CRY because you just get caught up into who these characters are, what they are feeling, what they are fighting and ultimately what they are craving beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Scott Blackstone and Sydney Evans are not strangers to one another and yet they haven’t seen each other for 8 years after one hot and heavy kiss. Now they are thrown into a fake marriage thanks to Scott’s father that neither one wants but are forced to agree to for their own reasons.
What I love about Dangelico’s characters are that they seem real. I was going to say slightly flawed but that’s not really it because they are just human – they are real in their feelings and actions. Sometimes it’s hard to relate to characters who are above and beyond perfect but even though Scott and Sydney are amazing in their own rights (and have a lot going for them) they have vulnerabilities. I mean Scott made me cry which I rarely do while reading a book but I could understand his motivations and actions so clearly. Sydney is the epitome of a thriver as she describes herself. I was so in awe of her control, her emotional intelligence and her ability to be vulnerable despite that being a very difficult place to allow herself to go given her past.
If you love slow burn romances, fake relationships, characters that you never want to leave, then I highly recommend reading You Can Have Manhattan. Now on to waiting for Dangelico’s next book to be released….
Sydney is floored when her boss, her mentor, her father figure, tells her that not only is he dying, but that he wants her to marry his son, Scott. Um yeah…let her wrap her mind around this for a minute. She can barely contemplate life without Frank, let alone marrying his worthless son, whom she despises (the feeling is mutual). But, Frank is the only person who has never let her down, so she’s going to abide by his wishes, do this for him. No matter that Scott is not even close to the kind of man she wants or sees in her future. But for Frank, she’ll do just about anything.
When Sydney arrives in Jackson Hole to start off her fake relationship with Scott, she finds that perhaps he’s not the hard-partying loser he once had been, but he’s still an ass. An ass who doesn’t want to marry her any more than she wants to marry him. But if she wants to become the new head of Blackstone Holdings she has to pull off the biggest fakeout of her life. If Scott wants to not lose everything he holds dear, he has to pretend he actually loves uptight, vanilla Sydney. What neither expected, or wanted, was to find they had an unexpected, fierce attraction to each other. Can they put forth this farce without losing their hearts to each other?
Fake relationship and enemies to lovers are two of my favorite tropes. Why? Well, simply put, because of stories exactly like You Can Have Manhattan. The delicious push and pull, the ust, the angst, the will they/won’t they…it’s all just so yummy and addicting when done right. And Paola Dangelico more than does it right here in You Can Have Manhattan, she does it PERFECTLY!! because this story is a slow burn piece of downright decadent storytelling, complete with the requisite hot and cold, I hate you, I love you, I want to boink your brains out tension, all in front of a backdrop of heartbreak waiting around the corner. This is by far my favorite story by her, and I cannot wait to see what she’s got for her readers next!
