“I can’t do it!”How often does a parent hear that during their kids’ childhoods? It is so frustrating and painful to hear those words from your child. The best way a parent can help is to equp our kids with tools they can use to break through this negativity and develop confidence that they have the skills to solve life’s big and little challenges. This is why we created the Tales of the Five … why we created the Tales of the Five Enchanted Mermaids books. Each of the five mermaids represents a different area of emotional intelligence and, through these stories, they present practical solutions that your child can carry with them and use in their own lives.
In You Can Do It! Otto the octopus works through his frustrations as he learns to use blocks to build a house, with assistance from the mermaids. Each mermaid helps him tackle one aspect of the challenge and come up with several possible ways to solve it. The format of this book acts as a conversation starter and makes it easy to transition into a real world discussion about additional solutions your child may have.
With the book’s charming and lighthearted illustrations, you and your child will know exactly how Otto is feeling as he works through the process and then eventually reaches a successful outcome.
You Can Do It! is the first book in a series of picture books for children 3 to 7 years of age. If you and your children like unique stories that help develop emotional intelligence and a growth mindset, you’ll love these books.

This was a delightful tale about an octopus learning how to accomplish what he sets out to do; with the help from five enchanted mermaids. My 8-year-old daughter loved this book. She enjoyed being able to read it on her own and the lessons that it taught. My 5-year-old son enjoyed the pictures as well. The pictures went along with the lessons as they were taught. My daughter liked the mermaids and is looking forward to seeing them again.
I received a copy of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This is a well-written and wonderfully illustrated book that kids really love. I love the message that you can do what you want if you give it all you have. Kids need encouragement

Otto is frustrated, he has been trying to build a house with blocks but it is not working. All is not lost however when the five mermaids come to help him achieve his goal.
This book has so many great ideas for children to increase self esteem and develop a positive growth mindset. Each mermaid has a specialty and make suggestions but it is Otto that comes up with solutions that may work for him. This helped him find practical solutions to learning a new task and get along with others. They worked on being peaceful, overcoming fears, focusing on what he is good at, being brave, and trying new skills. There are several things that appealed to me, first the great illustrations, whimsical, colourful and interesting. I like the approach to allow Otto find his own solutions improving his decision making skills and critical thinking skills. The five mermaids are from differing ethic backgrounds helping the child learn to accept difference in appearance and create a mindset for diversity. This book has a lot of great messages for children and it also gives ideas for parents on how to help their child develop them same mind set.

I loved this story. I think it is the best I read by Lois Petren.
Otto the Octopus wants to make a castle with plastic blocks, but he can’t do it because he doesn’t know, so he gets very angry and sad at the same time.
Sometimes children, and even adults, are afraid of doing new things. The five little mermaids help Otto to understand and to behave; they teach him to have patience, to think and look for a solution instead of getting angry and to ask for help when needed.
I think all the advice the Mermaids give Otto is good and so needed in this mad world.
