The Cahills of San Francisco are famous for two things: their vast wealth, and the scandals that surround them. Murder, greed, deadly ambition . . . some people will do anything to get, and keep, the Cahills’ kind of money. Not that James Cahill wants any of it. He’s tried to make his own way, less interested in a future inheritance than in his construction company—and in enjoying the many women taken in by the easy charms of a handsome, soon-to-be-rich bad boy.
Perhaps there’ve been too many women. Waking up in a small hospital in Washington State, bandaged and bruised, James barely recognizes the gorgeous blonde who comes to visit. Through the haze of pain and medication, he recalls that she is Sophia, the woman he’s been cheating with. Gradually memories return—his girlfriend, Megan, had found out about Sophia. Now Megan is missing, her sister, Rebecca, is hounding him—and police and reporters are asking questions too. James insists he has no idea what happened. Yet he can’t escape a feeling of dread . . .
Meanwhile, in a locked room, a woman waits, trapped, petrified, and desperate. She thought she knew who to trust. But the betrayal you can’t imagine—or can’t remember—may be the most terrifying weapon of all . . .

In this exciting read by Jackson we meet James Cahill who is part of the San Francisco Cahill’s who are known for their money. James awakens the hospital and doesn’t seem to remember much of what brought him there. He soon learns that his girlfriend is missing and it looks like he was the last one to see her alive. It doesn’t help that he was cheating on his girlfriend with someone who works for him. As the pieces of his memory start to come back he realizes that Megan learned about his relationship with Sophia and she was less than happy with him, she was the reason he ended up in the hospital and he has no idea where she went after leaving his house. To make matters worse her sister Rebecca shows up in town wanting to know what happened to her sister. He truly has no idea but he has a terrible feeling that he knows more than his memory is showing him. It doesn’t help that his family is known for their scandals, he doesn’t want to end up another example. Follow along as he slowly puts the pieces together in hopes of figuring out what exactly happened to Megan and whether he had a part in it. This was a thrilling read that had me on edge until the end!
Whew! Reading this book, I felt like I was sixteen again watching my favorite soap operas; All My Children and General Hospital. There were many characters to keep track of in this story, and most of them are running around doing crazy things like sneaking into hospitals and crawling through doggy doors. Women perpetrated most of the craziness trying to get the attention of rich, handsome James Cahill, who starts new relationships before ending the old ones. It seems this makes women lose their minds. Imagine that.
The basis of the story is that James wakes up in the hospital, having hit his head after an argument with his girlfriend, Megan after she found out about his new paramour Sophia. Now Megan is missing, and he is a suspect. James doesn’t remember what happened, and everyone, including the police, wants answers. Sophia is quickly moving in on him, Megan’s sister Rebecca shows up, and it seems he used to have a thing with her as well. Are you still with me?
Murdered women start popping up, and there is also a mystery woman locked in a cabin by someone she knows, but we don’t find out who until the end. I was confused up until the very end as to what was going on, so points for that. You Betrayed Me was not my favorite Lisa Jackson book to date, but it was enjoyable. Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for the opportunity to read it. I gave it three and one-half stars rounded down to three.
I was anticipating an intense mystery that I have enjoyed in the past by this author. However, once again I was duped and discovered this was basically a soap opera hidden behind a twisted psychological thriller cover. I did not like the characters and the relationship drama gagged me. I will start being more selective when deciding whether to read future books by this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing Corporation for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
This one will keep you intrigued right from the beginning. Something horrible happens to Megan. James is in hospital and fuzzy on lots of things. As this unfolds you get a clearer picture. I has not read all in between but I could still get into this. Turn the pages to see what the outcome of this drama.
Wow, what a twisted but riveting story. Lisa Jackson can really weave a good mystery, makes you really think.just when you think you might be figuring something out, something comes up and you realize you are so off base. This was book 3 in Knox and Sheppard series but I had not read 1&2 and had no trouble storyline so it can be read as a standalone without a problem.. That said would like to go back and read 1&2 . Thank you to Goodreads, Lisa Jackson and the publisher for this Advance copy . This review is solely my opinion.
Great suspense and tension
Difficult to get into. I really didn’t care for it.
The story was unrolled in unnecessary detail, resulting in a narrative that was too long. Less bang than expected for the buck.
Slow
Love Lisa Jacksons work. Great storyline and characters with a twisted ending
I loved it.
This is the 3rd book in the Cahill series. The first two were riveting and I couldn’t put them down. Although the main character is related to the Cahills, the book didn’t really tie back to the first two books. The characters in this book were monotonous and unlikable. I finished the book but didn’t really enjoy it.
This was suppose to be a thriller/mystery you can’t put down, I did, many times. It read like a bad made for tv movie with a cast of gorgeous women all in love with James Cahill.
He’s handsome, will inherit a fortune, and can’t keep his pants zip…so women are waiting for their turn to tame him. He has quite the business building small houses, a Christmas tree farm plus hotel and dining, gift shop and more. His family from San Francisco is wealthy, divorced, drunk, scandalous and a bit psychotic.
James wakes up in a hospital with little memory and a missing girlfriend, Megan. Detectives are curious to see if he disposed of her somehow or hired someone. Meanwhile, Megan’s sister, Rebecca comes to town to find Megan and make life miserabke for her ex boyfriend, James Cahill!!
You’ll meet Sophia, Willow, Charity the reporter and Detective Rivers. The book shows Rivers trying his skills to feel items from victims and see what happened…..this isn’t used very well.
Then you have Phoebe and Charity watching everyone and Ralph, Cahill’s dog, also watching people.
Mutiple deaths by different methods occur, accidents happen, and the women all come across as women using their bodies for an easy life with Cahill even though he cheats all the time. Almost felt for Megan, her fear came across the pages but then she is dismissed as Rebecca steps up to deal with Cahill.
There are multiple bad guys and women and the plot is very twisty with clues thrown around while others are hidden. I couldn’t feel badly for the women and Cahill should be castrated.
2.9 stars
This story was filled with intrigue with the various characters carrying the suspense and mystery to several different levels which kept the reader off balance attempting to determine how all would unfold. The male main character, James, who seemed to attract his share of women’s attention now found his life in shambles with no relief in sight.Definitely a surprise ending which leaves me wondering……what’s next…..should a second book follow!!
Suspenseful plot that kept you on your toes. Revengeful, but how much can happen to one family.
Is the twin thing played out?
Wonderful story full of surprises, speculation on who the “bad guy/girl” is. Full of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. Great story!
This is the third book in the Cahill family series and it’s definitely worth reading. The Cahill family is always immersed in scandal and this book follows the same path. Solid writing and a book full of twists and turns are what you can expect when you read this book. I recommend this book. I received a copy of this book NetGalley and the publisher and I’m voluntarily providing an honest review.
There’s more than one betrayal in Lisa Jackson’s latest page-turner, with a large cast of characters, one surprise after another, and characters who aren’t what they seem. If you like a suspenseful read with lots of twists, this is for you.
This is an entertaining, well-written suspense novel. It is a real page turner with intrigue, mystery, suspense, small town and family drama, twists and turns and murders. It is the third novel in Ms. Jackson’s “The Cahills” series, and can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone. I am looking forward to reading the first two novels in this series with great anticipation.
I loved it!
The Cahills once again find themselves at the center of a scandal when young James wakes up in the hospital to find his girlfriend is missing and no memory of the event, at all. The police are on the case and he seems to be the lead suspect. There is however a lot more going on than you could even imagine. The ultimate womanizer may have just met his match. Twist and turns abound and more than one heart will be broken. There is a lot going on in this book and at times it was a little much. Multiple view points and a little messy, but all in all a four star read for me.
