Serena knows a few simple things. She will always be owned by a warlock. She will never have freedom. She will always do what her warlock wishes, regardless of how inane, frivolous, or cruel it is. And if she doesn’t follow the rules, she will be tarnished. Spelled to be bald, inked, and barren for the rest of her life — worth less than the shadow she casts.
Then her ownership is won by a … by a barbarian from another country. With the uncertainty that comes from belonging to a new warlock, Serena questions if being tarnished is really worse than being owned by a barbarian, and tempts fate by breaking the rules. When he looks the other way instead of punishing her, she discovers a new world. The more she ventures into the forbidden, the more she learns of love and a freedom just out of reach. Serena longs for both. But in a society where women are only ever property, hoping for more could be deadly.

Loved this book & the entire series. The characters are great. Unlike anything I have read before!
Extremely intriguing and heart warming story done in an excellent way!
If you liked a handmaid’s tale, you’ll like this book.
Great book with interesting characters.
Couldn’t put it down, so I bought and read the whole series.
Wow I love this book I can’t wait to read the others in this series I fell in love with it AMAZING AUTHOR I couldn’t put it down a must read you’ll never suspect the ending just wow.
It was a very good book and very entertaining. I couldn’t put it down and read it in 3 hours.
This was a little too dark. I know it is the first in the series but just didn’t appeal. A little too heavy on the cruelty
I love the romance and magic in this book! It was an exciting fast read.
This book was boring to listen too. Reading it myself made it much more enjoyable. The narrator makes the characters very bland. You begin to wonder if this world is not only full of injustice but if everyone is really that boring. The characters came to life reading it on my own. I also feel the story is incomplete. We went from point A to Z …
Great book
I enjoyed the story but it was the MC’s POV was so limited to her expectations of violence from men that it was exhausting after a while. Every man but 2 treated men poorly. I wanted to see more from the other countries to counter the backward thinking men.
I enjoyed a new type of story,it couldn’t put it down
I really liked this book because the characters were so real. I also found the irony in what was considered barbaric and what was considered to be normal. It made me want to read more.
It wasn’t a page turner, and I won’t purchase book 2
Good reads!
Incredible book! So realistic it hooked me from the first page! 🙂
It was too slow and there was no romance. It was more about the mistreatment of woman and I felt there was no real progress in the story.
I Loved this book. It was so unique!
I was engaged by the story and finished the series, but I thought the characters could have been built and developed better.
