American Jessica Montgomery arrives in WW I England to be greeted with the horrible news that local vagrants and homeless folk are being found murdered. With a killer skulking through the North Yorkshire Dales, she and Grandmother Morag McDonald fear for the safety of the orphans living at Hope Orphanage. With the help of local Dr. Garth Samuels, they do all they can to protect them. Is it a … deranged individual who is the harbinger of death or could it be something far more sinister? As they search for answers to end the horror, Jess learns who she can and cannot trust, but it may be too late when she finds her own life in danger.

I really enjoyed this book. It occurs during WW I in England. Jessica is helping her grandmother with an orphanage she had started in her home. The characters are well developed and the locale is described so well that I could picture how everything looked. This was the first book I have read by this author, but it won’t be the last. She weaves her Christian faith into the story, but not in a preachy way. It’s just very natural. I really like that. I stayed up one night to read because I was hooked. It’s a wonderful story and very well written. I highly recommend it.
Yorkshire Lass by J. Carol Nemeth is a Christian historical romantic suspense and a fabulous debut novel.
The reader travels to the heart of the Dales in 1918 – as this is my favourite place I just revelled in the scenery as I ‘walked’ through the novel. I loved the landscape of Aysgarth Falls.
The First World War is over but there is still the poverty and many widows and orphans to help. The Bible tells us to take care of them and we witness characters living out their faith.
The strong faith of the young is beautiful to witness. “These children prayed in faith believing God would answer their prayers.” They pray with unwavering certainty that God hears and God responds. Oh that we all had that level of faith.
A relationship with God is important. Prayers for our loved ones and neighbours to meet with Jesus is vitally important. His love is a gift freely given. We need to accept it. “If someone gives you a gift, all you have to do is reach out and take it.”
For some wealth, status and power are ruling their lives. In contrast there are pure hearts. There is nothing wrong with having money but we need to hold it loosely and let God direct our spending.
The beauty of the Dales is in sharp contrast to some evil goings on. See if you can predict the perpetrator.
I really loved Yorkshire Lass. The characters were wonderfully drawn, warm and welcoming. There was a strong godly message without being ‘preachy’. Yorkshire Lass was the perfect read for a grey, gloomy day.
This is a very well written book. It has action, suspense, romance and faith all woven together that will keep you turning the pages. I highly recommend this book!
Set WWI in England our heroine Jessica aides her grandmother in running a home for orphans. To make it more dangerous, there is a serial killer on the loose. He always picks someone who doesn’t have any family…homeless, vagrants, prostitutes and then one of the orphan toddlers disappears. Enough said, you need to read the book to find out more.
I discovered J. Carol Nemeth’s books just over a year ago. I’ve read several of her books since then and they just keep getting better. The characters are likeable, they have flaws and their faith is brought into the storyline without being preachy. There’s a touch of romance thrown in with the suspense and danger. I love her style of writing, always love suspense mixed with romance and a good storyline.
I bought this book as an ebook and no one asked me to do this review. All opinions are my own and I highly recommend Yorkshire Lass and any of Ms. Nemeth’s books. I previously left reviews on A Beacon of Love and The Soldier’s Heart. I just finished three of her novellas and will be leaving reviews on them today. All 5 stars.
This is the perfect treat for those who love historical romance and suspense novels. It’s filled with the gospel and the plan of salvation, good versus evil, and love. There are different kinds of love and you will need to read to find out what Jess finds along her journey. This book has all the feels. Highly recommended for teens and adults.
I received a free digital version of this to read and post my own review.
Oh, wow! This is the first book I’ve read by Mrs. Nemeth, but it sure won’t be the last!! I was drawn in from the beginning, and had to keep reading to find out what happened next! I fell in love with Garth before Jess did, couldn’t stand Ian from the time he first appeared on the pages, and loved Robert, too!! What a great story, to get more than one HEA in a book is great! I loved the way that both Garth and Connie came to Christ because of Jess and Robert coming to the Dales. This book reminded me of the Grace Livingston Hill books I read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
