THE YESTERDAY’S MYSTERIES PREQUELAn old house…a shadowy night…a tortured spirit…two lives irretrievably changed…Pratt Davies is a police detective with the Saint Louis PD. He’s comfortable in his role…confident that he’s seen just about everything there is to see.Until he and his partner answer a call to enter a home where blood-curdling screams speak of horrific violence.Inside the … blood-curdling screams speak of horrific violence.
Inside the disturbing house, he encounters a strange, icy mist and something malevolent waiting just beyond view. Pratt’s confidence is shaken, his worldview smashed into tiny pieces…like shards of glass from a broken mirror.
His partner comes out of that house damaged, both physically and mentally, unable to even form a coherent response.
Pratt is so shaken he can barely function.
And he still has a murder to solve.
Who killed the couple living in that terrible house? What haunted the mist obscuring the scene? How did Pratt’s partner end up bleeding and babbling on the floor, something evil oozing through her gaze?
And how is Pratt…broken and terrified himself…ever going to solve a murder that has every indication of having been born in the ether?

Two detectives arrive on the scene of a murder. The neighbors are gathered outside, descriptions of the chaos within, only in the evening, are confusing and blood-curdling screams are heard within. The two detectives enter the house simultaneously front door and back door and find nothing but signs of strife, heavy air, fog and stench of death. So where are the family? What was making the screams? And who is the old-fashioned girl in the window?
This was a good story of haunting, serious damage, and broken-spirited investigators who have tragic results of their investigation. I made sure to read this during the daytime.
This book is well written and very descriptive. It is a chilling and creepy story that is described so well that you can feel the tension and fear of the characters. This a a prequel that helps set up the characters for the series. It is a quick read.
Excellent… I just started this series and as Sam say’s in the beginning this is a “dark” tale. Yes it was, but I was caught-up in it and did not want to put the prequel novella down. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series (I understand the rest of the books are not as dark…).
The first book I read from this author. Like always, short stories are fast, but I felt lost in between. The other books of the series got good reviews, so I am debating to read one more.
Detective Pratt Davies is a tough officer confident and comfortable in his role. That is until the day that he and his partner are called to a home where blood-curdling screams can be heard and a very graphic scene of violence is evident.
Pratt encounters a very strange “mist” that exudes evil and danger within the house. When all is over, his partner is left bleeding and incoherent with doctors saying she may never be the same again. What happened that night? Pratt himself is left completely broken, terrified, and questioning his own sanity.
This is the prequel to a new series called Yesterday’s mysteries. The reader will be introduced to a horrific murder and strange paranormal occurrences which will lead to Pratt finding a new path in life. It is suspenseful, eerie, shocking, and leaving you wanting more.
A very enjoyable short read. Love the paranormal element, which was so cleverly interwoven through the story.
Yesterday’s Lost, prequel – Oh my gosh, this book rocks! The intensity, the vivid descriptions, the hurry up and TELL ME what did it!, all these things eats up your patience in this fast paced, suspense filled story. It’s almost with bated breath time in some places in this story; it’s been a long time since a story affected me like this. Move over Koontz and King, Cheever can write this genre too! The author provides information about the characters and the series, as well as an overview of this story, which I appreciate knowing. 5*
Yesterday’s News #1 – Read Yesterday’s Lost first, there’s a lot of foundation for the series, plus it’s an awesome read! There’s still the intensity, vivid descriptions and fast pace that makes this book difficult to put down. The characters are interesting, lovable or not, and run the gamut of types. The story line is well thought out and there’s the twists and turns that’s in every good book. There are so many possibilities where this series can go and I look forward to the rest of the series. The author provides an overview, which I appreciate knowing before I read the book. I’ve enjoyed all the books I’ve read by this author and with this series and her Familiar series, she has grown in her writing; and she was good with her Silver Hills series. 5*
Murderous Craft – Hilarious as the story develops. A well written suspense filled with the lovable, but capable Honeybun family and their cohorts. The believable characters, along with the mostly realistic dialogue and the intriguing, twisting plot keep the reader involved throughout the story. This book has an overview, which I appreciate knowing what a book is about before I read; entertaining on its own. Minor editing needed, although the editing is better on this book. I contacted the author after reading the first book: A Honeybun and Coffee. 5*
Dose Vidanya – Hilarious as the story develops. What! I almost lost interest when the ladies started trying to solve the death before calling the police, but I read more and I’m glad I did. The story did get better and the ladies weren’t stupid, less the first chapter. A well written suspense laced with humor, developed characters and a twisty plot. This book has an overview, which I appreciate knowing what a book is about before I read; entertaining on its own. Minor editing needed. 5*
A Honeybun and Coffee – Hilarious! A well written, suspense filled with a bunch of believable characters, mostly realistic dialogue and an adorable dog. The cast keeps getting bigger, adding to the fun and excitement. This is my first book by this author and it won’t be my last. This book reminds me of Stephanie Plum, but with more Rangers and Morellis. Angie isn’t so prone to bad things happenin’ to her, well at least, her car isn’t bombed. This book has an overview, which I appreciate knowing what a book is about before I read; entertaining on its own. I was surprised and happy to find a lack of profanity. There was a long sex scene. Some of the motorcycle and fight scenes aren’t realistic, but it’s still a fun read. Minor editing needed. 5*
Sam Cheever, Toxic Tech (Summer Snoops and Cozy Crimes) – Another interesting story with the added bonus of a large amount of animals, and even a reptile as a major character. Intriguing with suspense and the usual humor found from this author blend well with the characters to keep the reader immersed in the story. Another good addition to the Honeybun and Runa series. There’s a overview to let the reader know what the story is about, which I always appreciate. I purchased this set to support the authors’ cause since they did so well with 12 Slays of Christmas. 4*
This book caught me at the very beginning and had me begging for more at the end. Books about ghosts are not my usual choice but Sam Cheever has me looking for more. Real horror to laughs, this book has it all. I’m really looking forward to the next in this series.
Yesterday’s Lost is a prequel novella to the Yesterday’s Mysteries series. The story is creepy without falling into the realm of horror. I like the main character, but hate his name (it’s a derogatory term in British English). I hope the rest of the series runs along similar lines.
OMGeee! What a wonderful book! Sam has turned me into a true lover of paranormal mystery! This was a quick read and so very enjoyable; I just couldn’t put it down! Sam has another hit here, and I am always looking forward to the next read by her! I am never disappointed when I read one of her stories. If you’ve never read paranormal, but you are a mystery fan, don’t let this one pass you by. You will be hooked!
