Lyrical and stunningly illustrated with full-page watercolors, this is the first volume in Yossi Lapid and Joanna Pasek newly published Yara’s Rainforest series, showing children how all living things on our beautiful planet depend on one another.
On the bank of the river, in a house made of wood,
Close to the place where the scared seedling stood,
A hard-working mother and her kindhearted child,
Lived freely together, eating food from the wild.
Yara hugged Mama and went off to the woods
For mushrooms and berries and other such goods.
But something strange happened: A parrot named Chant,
Led her down a small path to the terrified plant.

Yara’s Tawari Tree by Yossi Lapid
Very imaginative children’s colorful rhyming story where words are easy to read because of the size and they stick out=not getting hidden in dark pictures.
You can not only see what is going on with the clearing but you can read the words.
Amazon jungles: Yara goes off to collect berries and other food in the woods til they come across a shout for help from the seedling.
The grandmother comes to visit and when Yara falls sick they start looking for a certain cure:
from a tree that she’s been unable to find any more…Love hearing about the medicinal things made from the Amazon trees, this is PRICELESS!
Very fine detailed drawings of jewelry and other things important to their culture.Such a perfect book for earth day this week. This is also a coloring book made from this story available.
Received this free review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
“Yara’s Tawari Tree” is a beautiful and inspiring story written in rhyme. Yara rescues a young tree, saving it from wildfires in the jungle. The story does have a slightly sad part in it, but it turns out extra happy because Yara’s care for the young tree ends up saving her when she is older. It is a beautiful story with beautiful pictures that can be great for teaching kids to care for forests and preserve natural resources. The end of the book has a little bit of information about the rainforest and the Tawari tree.
This book would be a great resource for parents as well as teachers and homeschoolers. It is a fun way to learn to care for trees and preserve natural resources.
