A YANKEE PRIVATEERIn Regency England anything is possible if one has the money and influence. The devious Marquess of Cargrave does, and he blackmails his American grandson into becoming his heir. Jason Beaumont, former Yankee privateer, finds himself the new Earl of Falconridge and on the verge of being leg shackled. He is not happy.AN ENGLISH HEIRESSThe Honorable Rachel Fairchild, daughter to … Rachel Fairchild, daughter to Cargrave’s oldest friend, Viscount Harleigh, is threatened by her father with even more odious marriage choices if she does not wed the man the Ton has labeled “the Yankee earl.” But Jason is a toad stool, nothing more than a jumped up pirate. She is not happy.
A DEVIL’S BARGAIN
The two first collide, quite literally, while somebody is shooting at Jason. In spite of the danger, he and Rachel strike sparks from each other in a battle of wits. Rachel devises a plan that will enable Jason is to escape England, thus freeing them both from a fate worse than death–marriage…to each other! If only the Yankee clodpole weren’t so damnably witty and handsome. Jason quickly sees that his sharp-tongued “Countess” is right. They must work together to avoid leg-shackling…if only she weren’t so damnably bright and beautiful. As the squabbling pair matches wits with the manipulative old marquess, mysterious assassins and kidnappers menace them. Rachel begins to wonder if marrying the wild Yankee would be so terrible after all. Jason slowly realizes that only a fool would not claim the willful “Countess” as his own, and the Yankee earl is nobody’s fool.

Loved this book!
There is a sweet use of same feelings and thoughts, as examples: “wondering why his heart hurt,” and then Rachel “wondering why her heart hurt” and “there would be an accounting” in each of their minds. The story goes on just a tad too long, and our hero is wounded rather often, and the body count is high! It’s the classic tale of headstrong H & h who comprehend their strong chemistry but don’t trust in love. I enjoyed it.
Great read, loved back and forth comments from main characters. Kept me wanting to read more when I should be sleeping.
I like “Regency” type books and I enjoyed this one a great deal. Rarely do we see an American become an English Lord, and that premise all by itself makes this story enjoyable. Jason is the proverbial fish out of water in jolly old England, and his gradual acclimation is entertaining in itself. Add in the Bad guys and you’ve got a great read.
I thought it was a good read, entertaining and it held my interest.
This book has just the right blend of romance, adversity, suspense, and action. Circumstances bring to apparently diverse characters together, who are actually very much alike. Jason and Rachel really are the perfect couple, except they don’t realize it. The characters are great and diverse to keep the plot interesting. I recommend this book and enjoyed the fact that it is 277 pages.
Page turner filled with passion and superb characters!!!! Well done!!
I loved the story, but I did not like all of the explicit scenes. The book would have been great without all of that.
This book had it all. A very enjoyable story with interesting characters.
