AWESOME 5+ stars! I can’t say how much I loved this book! I forgot when I asked NetGalley for an ARC of this book that I haven’t started this Paige Tyler series yet. I prefer to binge read series from start to current, and not jump into the middle. Opps, I’ve started with her SWAT series, also excellent. This series was up next. Well, it just jumped higher on my list to get read. Fabulous characters, I wasn’t lost coming into the 8th book either. I missed some key plot stories but I could go with the flow easily.
Tanner Howland is a retired Army Ranger with severe PTSD. He was kidnapped by “mad scientists” who used him as a test subject for their man made shifter experiments, making hybrids. He was rescued from the lab by a kidnapped Russian geneticist, Dr. Zarina Sololov. The serum they gave him worked but he rarely is able to control his powerful shifter abilities resulting in uncontrolled rage. He’s retreated to the Washington woods east of his hometown of Seattle. Zarina, now works with the Department of Covert Ops, DCO, and decides she’s gonna find him as she finds she cares for him a lot. Tanner has made friends with several “prepper” communities in the woods and he’s discovered they are being raided by mercenaries kidnapping people. He’s trying to stay out it but his Ranger’s heart is not letting him. Zarina finds him and won’t go home finding that together they can help these preppers and solve the mystery.
Meanwhile, DCO agent Tate Evers is without his shifter partner and gets sent to check out a suspicious death in Maine that is located close to the where Tanner’s lab was closed down. Someone shredded a geneticist in a closed cabin. It looks like he was tortured by a shifter but the authorities are working hard to explain it as an animal attack. Tate gets an unwelcome partner, Chase York, a Maine deputy “shadow” from the local Sheriff’s office. He and Chase track down the evidence to solve the murder as Tate works hard to not tell Chase classified information. Chase is a former Marine and pretty sharp so he keeps learning more and more about the existence of shifters. The two storylines merge later in the book.
I loved the story and character development in this story. The richness, intelligence and heart of each one were crafted skillfully. I grew to care about each one. The action was off the charts and very believable. The story had a descriptive richness and I enjoyed her author’s voice. The storyline was well developed and all the pieces pulled together to make a satisfying ending. The Epilogue answered some of the last questions I had and set up the direction of the next book. Loved it! Thank you Sourcebooks and Paige Tyler for this opportunity to ARC read and review this story for an honest review.
My Thoughts – 5 out of 5 Unicorns – I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!
The cover is perfection, and you can look at it to see why!
This is the 8th book in the series, and I haven’t read them all YET…someday I will! I’m collecting them in paperback. This book is for adults only due to the violence and steamy content. You can read this book without having read them all. I have only read 0.5, 1, 7, and now 8, but I will read more because I have them somewhere.
I really love everything the Paige packs into each and every book. Shifter books are my favorite kind of books especially when it is mixed with bad guys that you love to hate, fighting for those you love, and intrigue galore. Paige’s book has it all to pull you in and not let go!
I love both Tanner and Zarina! They are both selfless to the point it hurts them both! I think when you serve others that you will always take more responsibility than you should when things go bad. Tanner has lived through so much, and I won’t go into details because you need to read it yourself. There is so much going on in this book. You have what’s going on in Washington, and then you have the stuff Tate is dealing with. I mean it when I say action-packed! There is a real hum dinger of an ending that leaves lots of questions what will happen next, and will there be new members joining the DCO?
I highly recommend to all shifter fans who love having evil bad buys to fight because action mixed with romance and love is amazing! Can’t wait for more!
X-Ops Exposed by Paige Tyler is book Eight in the X-Ops Series. This is the story of Tanner Howland and Dr. Zarina Sokolov. For me this was a standalone book.
Tanner worried about the dangers he may in flick on the people he loves and friends he goes int the wood away from everyone. But Zarina follows him because of her feelings and worried about him. This has set up Tanner to embrace his alpha male instinct to protect Zarina who has put herself in danger because people have gone missing.
This was an very exciting story! One that is hard to put down~!
Tanner Howland is a feline hybrid with the DCO. After a battle where he lost control of his shifter, Tanner left the DC area so that he wouldn’t hurt anyone he cared about especially the woman he loves. Dr Zarina Sokolov is devastated when Tanner leaves but she’s not going to let him stay gone. She tracks him to the forested mountains in Washington state and follows him there. When they find each other, Tanner keeps trying to make her leave but Zarina isn’t going. They are soon working on a case of several missing people among the homeless and preppers and set out to help. Can they find out what’s going on?
This book is well-written with well-rounded characters. I was drawn in from the beginning and kept hooked until the end. I do hope that there’s another book to come as I feel there’s more of a story to tell. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.
This is the 8th book in author Paige Tyler’s “X-OPS” series. I have been hooked from the first book! I love PNR and military romance and to bring the two together always makes me happy and hungry for more in the series. I mostly own paperback in this series but do have some on my kindle as well. I feel this series is a good one to read in order and highly recommend it.
This book has nonstop action with some sexy romance. I think out of all the books in the series this one has more violence then the others in the series. I say “bring it!”, it’s a shifter hybrid series so this is what the readers want. I know I do!
Tanner is a hybrid, he fights every day for his soul. The more I read about him the harder I fell for him. I really liked his mate, she turned out to be the perfect mate for Tanner. I can’t wait to see what the author throws our way next, the ending to this story was a humongous surprise and left me on the edge of the couch chanting “no, no, no, you can’t end it like that!”.
I feel this is a great book for readers who enjoy action packed military/paranormal stories. Would I recommend this series to my family and friends? The answer is a big fat YES!
***I voluntarily reviewed this ARC for an honest review via NetGalley, this is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the author, Publishers or NetGalley in anyway.*** Thank you!
I want more of this world. . . Let’s keep going. 🙂 I can’t wait for more.
“Ex-Ops Exposed” by Paige Tyler of the X-Ops Series was action-packed. The story followed up on what happened to Tanner (feline hybrid shifter) and Dr. Zarina Sokolov in the previous novel. At the end of the last book, Tanner was involved in a terrible fight and felt he was too dangerous to be among people, so he left. Zarina was in love with him. She worked until she had completed an antidote for Tanner. Then she set off to find him. Tanner had retreated into the forests of Washington State. Zarina was determined to find him and bring him home. They met while a bear was chasing Zarina! Always exciting action in this series! Tanner tried to send her home, but she would not leave. He had been protecting some local people living in the forests. Unfortunately someone had been kidnapping members of the group. Zarina decided to stay and provide her medical knowledge to the locals while she and Tanner worked out their situation. Things went from bad to worse and Tanner was kidnapped. Zarina called Tanner’s brother and friends from the Department of Covert Operations that she and Tanner had worked with to hopefully find Tanner and other members of their group who were also kidnapped along with Tanner. From that point it is non-stop excitement. I highly recommend this story!
This is Book 8 in the X-Ops series. It can be read as a stand-alone but makes better sense if you have read the others in the series. You know more about what and why of things that happen in the book. Zarina is a doctor who has been trying to help Tanner with his hybrid side. It starts off with her trying to locate Tanner and she’s almost mauled by a bear. Tanner scares him off and she insisted on staying with him. There’s a lot of things going on that keeps your interest in the story and you can’t help but enjoy seeing their friendship turn into a sweet romance. I really enjoyed seeing them come together. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Tanner was swept up by a secret government agency and experimented on, all in an attempt to make him a super soldier. But with the help of a kidnapped geneticist he escaped, but not before more of his fellow “volunteers” died. Now essentially a hermit, living in the middle of nowhere, he finds what he needs and has tenuous links with nearby preppers.
Dr. Zarina Sokolov has been working with X Ops in an attempt to reverse the genetic engineering Tanner and the others were forced to undergo. But when she perfects a serum she thinks will return Tanner to his former self, she never expected to have to hike to his camp and then be turned down! But Tanner gave up his family and friends when he was changed and he doesn’t want to expose them to more misery if the serum goes wrong.
But Tanners past and present are about to smash head long into each other and he may have to save himself and Zarina from those hunting them, even when it may expose him and those like him to the general masses.
In an intertwining story Tate is investigating a series of kidnappings all linked to the shady Senator who has snuck her way into X Ops.
Great action-packed story with superb characters. There is enough romance to keep me happy and the mix of shifter, hybrid and human characters kept everything from getting stale.
Lots going on in this latest in the X-Ops world. Two separate stories going on.
On the west coast…Wolf shifter Tanner Howland get embroiled with some preppers in the woods when he runs away due to being overwhelmed with both PTSD and being a hybrid – two conditions he is unable to control. On his heels is Dr Zarina Sokolov who is in love with him and thinks she has a serum that could help him.
On the east coast…DCO operative Tate Evers is sent to Maine to look into a death that looked like it was from a wild animal. While investigating he teams up with Deputy Chase York. Their investigation leads them to one of the Doctors that experimented on the hybrids and also the escaped hybrid daughter of the woman now in charge of the DCO. That’s a huge can of worms that still not resolved in this book..
Then the crew from east coast goes west when Tanner and Zarina end up in trouble.. This sets up a complete game changing event that forever changes the DCO and the series.
Next book should be interesting as after that ending nothing will ever be the same from the shifters and their human partners ever again..
Zarina and Tanner have a special relationship. She helped him escape a bad situation at a great risk to her safety but not before his life was drastically changed. When they’re reunited at the DCO, Zarina works hard to help Tanner in any way she can. Then things go wrong and Tanner decides that he has to leave to keep Zarina safe. Zarina is convinced that Tanner will never hurt her so she follows him. What follows is action, suspense, and admitting the love they have for each other.
I love this series and am looking forward to the next book.
Another great book in the series. Two people finally have a chance to understand their feelings towards each other, but he wants nothing to do with her; he wants to be away from everyone. Because of what’s been done to him he knows he’s a danger to all, especially to the woman he desires. She has finally found a way to help him and to reverse what has been done to him, but when she tells him he refuses. She’s not taking no for an answer. She refuses to leave him and when he tries to take her back to civilization he instead leads her right smack into danger. They learn of mysterious disappearances from a group of survivalist that include people they both know and before they can find out what’s happening more people have been taken. The story is filled with action, danger, and the discovery of love and passion. If you haven’t read this series, X-Ops, it’s about time you did. Every book is filled with adventure, suspense, thrills, magnificent characters, love and passion. Get it them now at your favorite book site.
X-Ops Exposed is outstanding! The thrills and emotional depth to the story really captivate and draw readers in and keeping them hostage until the very end.
Once again, Paige Tyler impresses me with her very vivid world that is full of energy and vibrant characters that make it impossible not to become a part of all the excitement as it happens. The story is fast paced and full of action infused events that just keep coming keeping readers on the edge of their seats and full of anticipation of what will come next and let me tell you that this enemy is one that I wanted to tear apart with my bare hands and considering what his devious plot unleashes, I’m sure that I’m not the only one but he certainly keeps things exhilarating. The story is full of twists and turns and a betrayal that rocks our hero’s world, while also bringing Tanner and Zarina together into a fantasy fulfilling romance that is rocky and full of emotional turbulence that adds depth and heat to the story. These characters are typical for the X-Ops world in that they are sexy, energetic and captivating but they are unique in their personalities and their intriguing past which adds spice to the already spirited story.
I can never get enough of Paige Tyler’s fascinating worlds and X-Ops Exposed is one that sets up the team for some drastic changes and I can’t wait to find out what they what will happen next in the X-Ops shifter division now that things have been turned upside down and inside out (definitely no dull moments to be found in this series).
Zarina is a Russian doctor who helped Tanner escape the facility where he was being held and experimented on. Tanner was in the Army when his whole team but one was killed. Now he’s a hybrid shifter who can’t keep his animal side controlled. He loves Zarina, so he heads for the mountains in Washington state to protect her from himself. But when she figures out an antiserum that change him back to human, she goes looking for him.
When some of Tanner’s friends are taken, he goes to look for them but ends up captured himself. What they’re doing is pitting people against each other in a cage . People are betting on the fights and some are recording it. After they get free, it’s all over the news and people are starting to protest outside the DCO compound.
Excellent story. Blood, suspense, and sex. Shifters, evil scientists, and a few new characters.
