A series with endless possibilities!
There are areas and character flaws that may need to be “tweaked” but otherwise, this was a great fantasy read.
The concept for the story and the characters – loved it!!
There is a lot of ways in which Mazurkiewicz can take this series. She did a wonderful job of introducing different components of this world and the preternatural characters that lived within them. The fact she omitted some facts and details with regards to their origins or how key of a role they played was actually a plus in this story- they are not unknowns in the sense they were missing from the story, but unknowns as in we know they will play key roles in future books but not what roles and dang if we don’t want answers now!
I admit I had a problem with our heroine -she is strong and has the ability to lead -but she tends to wallow in her self-pity pot- quite a bit – A couple times I really wanted to reach in and shake her knock her around till she got her head screwed back on (though a couple characters did assist with knocking some sense into her a couple times- can’t tell you – spoiler – I do have to say that by the end of the story – I wished upon our heroine what our H experienced times 3 – Yes, I actually think she is just a touch self absorbed resulting in some pretty bad choices -let us hope she redeems herself in book 2.
As for our evil Duke – I fell in love with that man from the get, I would like more on him and the members of his court, all things I believe will be presented in book two.
This author can really write a mean book! Good book for everyone. Story just kept getting better and better. Love the pixies, magic and dragon shifters. Sometimes you just have to stand up for yourself and that’s what Astri did. I received a complimentary copy of this book for voluntary review consideration.
Wyvern Awakening is an interesting and entertaining tale of a young female who decides to take part in a tournament involving shifters. The story’s character is older than what is expected. The book has a teenager feel to it instead of the young adult the 21 year old main character is. I thought the book was a decent read but not good enough to pull me along for the second book. I’m a cover snob and I must say that I love this book’s cover; hence the four stars instead of 3.
It is a very engaging story that keeps you listening to see what happens next. There are moments that will make you cheer and some that will make you gasp. You get all ranges of the spectrum in this story. Once you start you will come back until you get to the end.
This book is different from any of the other books I’ve read by Joanna Mazurkiewicz. It was pure fantasy with wonderful believable characters. The world building was exquisite. There is action, and humor, but also pain and sadness. I can’t wait to read what happens next to Astri and Jorgen. I can’t wait to read about the future of the last wyvern and the town of Rivenna.
