Heather is a spirited, independent woman living alone on a ranch left to her by her parents. She is also a healer of animals, domestic and wild. A woman doing a man’s work running a ranch that everyone said couldn’t be done, not in this untamed, vastly unsettled land, in the mid 1800’s. The ranch had everything she needed except water. She stole that from a neighboring abandoned ranch watched … over by a lonely cabin and a grave.
He rode alone coming back after five years to an empty cabin, a run-down ranch, and a grave on a hill. A former Texas Ranger burnt out on life and afraid to love. Whip had spent five years hunting the man that took his wife’s life and left him to die.
Whip and Heather meet in an explosive moment on the banks of the Powder River. Both lonely, both drawn to one another, and both fight the attraction.

A Western romance but exceptional writing on scenery, weather, smells, sounds. Clean, and placed a high value on and love for children. I liked it a lot.
This was a wonderful book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Very entertaining, I did enjoy this book. DeAnn is a wonderful writer and will look for more of her books.
Enjoyed this classic western suspenseful romance. Often hard for me to get into a new author, this book charmed me with interesting characters, feel of heart and home, family and community that captured my attention.
Great writing. Enjoyed the story, the setting and the characters.
Cute western. Different take on family dynamic in the old west scene. I personally thought that it was great!!
Really enjoyed the characters in this book. Also the descriptions of the wyoming territory. Made you want to be there or their neighbor!
A welcome read that expresses love and romance without gritty sex and excessive blood and guts. Shows a strong female character who doesn’t have to use foul language to prove her strength. Very refreshing and entertaining .
Loved, loved this book. It had me laughing and crying drawing me into a love story and a family story.
I love strong women and Heather is that. Her new neighbor Whip is tough and somewhat hardened by the death of his wife. Good western romance with some twists and turns but lots of stories only started within it.
Every time I had to stop to do something in the house I couldn’t wait to get back to continue reading this historical romance. It was entertaining and funny and the characters just drew me in to their lives. I am looking forward to reading this book several more times.
A fun read
Enjoyed the plot and the characters. Hated the story to end.
Great Story but very, very clean.
Great main characters. Neither of them knew what they wanted in life, but both were missing something until they were reunited.
I like it very entertainer
I loved the characters in this story. I wish that the story continued on in another book.
Good characters that capture you from the beginning. The author’s story line keeps you turning the pages. Story of hope and family with enough action to bring some excitement.
This was a very witty story,Heather throws out some zingers
I didn’t want this book to end. It’s a great story about people who have endured grief & loss but did not give up. It’s about hard work, inner strength, kindness, and human decency, love& honor. It’s a book to re-read – enjoy it. Too bad I could not give it more than 5 stars!
