Considered lurid and shocking by mid-19th-century standards, Wuthering Heights was initially thought to be such a publishing risk that its author, Emily Bront#65533;, was asked to pay some of the publication costs. A somber tale of consuming passions and vengeance played out against the lonely moors of northern England, the book proved to be one of the most enduring classics of English … English literature.
The turbulent and tempestuous love story of Cathy and Heathcliff spans two generations — from the time Heathcliff, a strange, coarse young boy, is brought to live on the Earnshaws’ windswept estate, through Cathy’s marriage to Edgar Linton and Heathcliff’s plans for revenge, to Cathy’s death years later and the eventual union of the surviving Earnshaw and Linton heirs.
A masterpiece of imaginative fiction, Wuthering Heights (the author’s only novel) remains as poignant and compelling today as it was when first published in 1847.

What’s not to love? I mean, it’s Wuthering Heights! Hauntingly beautiful love story that defines “classic.” One I’ve read over and over and will continue to read.
This is a book you can read more than once and still be entertained.
Next to To Kill A Mockingbird, this is my favorite book. I read it in one go while I was in high school. Heathcliff stayed with me for years. Cannot recommend this book enough.
In my top 5 of all time (so far, I’m a late starter) there are some sections of the book which use a language / in an accent which (if you focus each word) can be VERY hard to follow – BUT – don’t focus on each word TOO strenuously, the meaning of the sentence/ paragraph will become apparent as you read on. DEFO – one of my all time favorites …
Hauntingly beautiful, tragic.
A classic romance.
My favorite book of all time
I have read this book many times over now. Each time I enjoy it more than the previous. It is probably my favorite book ever, definitely my favorite classic. It has both a terrible ending for the main characters and a happy ending for side characters. Emily Bronte was a genius in being able to create characters whose only redeemable value was …
The ultimate dark romance with an ending that will leave you gasping for breath as it sucks the life out of you. (But still leaves with a warm and fuzzy and hearing Kate Bush in your head..)
Dark Romance
This classic novel, written in the 19th century by a girl barely out of her teens, living in an isolated Yorkshire village, is a brilliant tour de force. The story of the wilful, often unbearable Catherine and her lover, the horrible, cruel and vindictive Heathcliff, is absolutely compelling. I (and many other readers) have never warmed to the …
When I was 16, and just starting my English A-Level at Sixth Form, my mother told me I should read the books she had read for her A-Level about fourteen years before. Though the reading list had changed drastically since she had done the exam, I was still willing to read. I read Wuthering Heights first, and then read it again when I was 19 and at …
I think it was a bloody shame that female writers back in the day had to use a man’s name. Fantastic Romance Novel
Truly a great tale!
After falling in love with Jane Erye I picked this up. I didn’t find the main characters likeable as adults. It was difficult for me to get through this book.
No words. A perfect book.
Wonderful British novel of earlier times. Excellent read if you like women’s books.
Gothic, the moors are atmospheric and haunting. Heathcliff is the ultimate badboy antihero. Catherine is the victim, but also the triumphant heroine in the end. The characters are so multilayered. A family drama, too. Must read classic.
Classic novel about the middle 19th century English countryside. Brilliant characters pull you into their passions and bleak but moving lives. Heathcliff and Catherine are star crossed lovers who you cannot forget.
One of the best tragic love stories ever written. The characters are hard to love and become harsh from their life circumstances. Despite being rough characters, you still wish for their happiness until the end.
