Every little girl dreams of the fairytale. The one where the white knight rushes in to save her from the clutches of evil. They fall in love, have babies, and live happily ever after.By that definition, my life should have been a fairytale too. When I was eight years old, Caven Hunt saved me from the worst kind of evil to walk the Earth. It didn’t matter that I was a kid. I fell in love with him … in love with him all the same.
But that was where my fairytale ended.
Years later, a one-night stand during the darkest time imaginable gave us a little girl. It was nothing compared to the pitch black that consumed me when I was forced to leave her with Caven for good.
At the end of every fairytale, the happily-ever-after is the one thing that remains consistent. It wasn’t going to be mine, but there hadn’t been a night that passed where I hadn’t prayed that it would be hers.
I owed Caven my life.
However, I owed that innocent child more.
And that included ripping the heart from my chest and facing her father again.

Knights, princesses, happily ever after, it’s the stuff little girl’s dreams are made of, the stuff Hadley wishes she could still dream about. While she has to work for her happiness, she’s found the light at the end of the tunnel after a long road of mishaps, a little girl she wants to promise the happily ever afters to. Caven was her knight at on point, now he might be the villain, but their connection is one that will always be there and it’s time she sees him again. Consequences pushed aside, Hadley sets out to face Caven and her sweet little girl, the one she left behind.
I struggled starting this book, my PTSD is still very much a struggle for me sometimes and this book was a trigger for me. I am working on facing those triggers and reading a very descriptive scene is something I’ve been meaning to do, so in I went. I admit that I had my worries, after such a startling first meeting for the hero and heroine I didn’t know how this book would go, but Aly Martinez proved once again why she is an author to remain faithful to. This is a story of hope, of love, of the ties that bind. Of course, it’s a duet and the title gives just enough away to let you know it can’t all be rosy. No, there is a twist, a ginormous one, and I docked .5 stars for the shock of it right in the last few pages. I never, ever saw that coming, not even an ounce of foreshadowing caught my attention, and so here I sit, desperate for the next novel and yet also wanting to live in the beauty of Written with Regret. If that doesn’t tell you how much I enjoyed it, I don’t know what does.
Caven and Hadley are such incredible characters, their personalities felt so true to them and the dynamic between the two was absolutely meant for this type of story. The push and pull between them, plus the charming little Rosie, made for the perfect romance and yet I continued to be surprised page after page. There’s true-to-life events in the novel, plus some suspense that really ties it all together. I was never bored, it never felt like a book I’d read before, ever bit of it was new, interesting, and enchanting. Aly Martinez is a go-to, one click author for me and Written with Regret is just another novel in the long list of “you must read this” that I give to my friends.
ARC provided.
Written with Regret by Aly Martinez is the first book of the Regret duet and it is a powerfully and beautifully written book filled with regrets, secrets, tragedy and best of all, love. The love emitted from this book is so deep and strong that it left my heart so full. Full of life, full of love and at the same time, full of heartache and pain. This isn’t the first book I have read by this author and previously, her books have always filled my angsty desires and provided love stories so sad and so true. But this one is the author’s best work yet. I couldn’t wrap my head around how much this book moved me. I started this book at one o’clock in the morning because I was restless, and the next thing I know, I’d just turned the last page and it was 8 o’clock in the morning. It’s been probably just over six months since I’ve ever finished a book in one whole sitting and while I have forgotten what a rigorous toll it takes on one’s body but nothing was going to tear me away from that book, tear me away from Caven, Hadley and that beautiful little Rosalee.
From the very first page, I was hooked. Tragedy strikes when our characters are young and in a sick, twist of fate. It changes them, as it would any person but they fight so hard to heal and get over they are brought back in each other’s lives with one mutual interest. Watching the adjustments these characters have to make in order to lead a seemingly normal life, is frustrating. Oh, how I cried abundantly throughout this book. I also laughed so hard my stomach ached. Raged so intensely, my head hurt and experienced a love so uniquely pure and tragic, my heart was bursting. It’s not written with any fancy trickery or wording, hell, some people will say it’s sub-par. But that’s because this book doesn’t need fancy diction, ruses or exaggerated declarations. The simplicity in this book is something to be commended because the effect was twice as powerful as any other book. This book, heck, this duet will be my undoing and will remain in my soul forever. Oh! And I can’t forget to warn you about a MASSIVE plot twist that will change everything. I won’t state where it will appear but let me tell you that it will throw you off. It’s so unexpected and came out of nowhere, that I am still trying to process it. But now that I think about it, it’s a testament to absolutely how brilliant and genius this author is. Putting that twist in was magnificent! An absolutely amazing story that deserves so much recognition and love! July 13 seems so far away. Releasing May 23, get ready for a story that will change everything you thought you ever knew about tragedy and love. You will not regret it!
This. Book. Is. Everything…! Yet again Aly Martinez brings us a duet with one helluva cliffhanger, but in the absolute best possible way… I cannot wait for book 2!
The characters & general storyline in this book blew me away. And the twists!!
Caven and Hadley’s story will wreck you! It will ruin you! It will leave you reeling… wondering why? Wondering what is happening? Wondering where we can possibly be taken next! And boy, are you in for one huge rollercoaster of a ride…
From the very first page I felt the emotion and real, raw, realities that poured from the pages. I was in tears on more than one occasion and simply could not put this book down until I had devoured cover to cover!
I need the second book yesterday! Amazing!!
Holy flying flamingoes!!!! This book gripped me from the first page and had my heart racing to the very last word!
This story has everything I look for in a five star read. It was suspenseful, heartbreaking, frustrating and packed with every emotion possible! I love Aly’s style of writing and it was even better with this book. The story flowed smoothly and was so easy to read. It was the perfect blend of suspense, sexy and heartbreak. I could not put this book down.
Hadley had my heart by page two. The things she’s had to endure and the trauma she’s had to face broke my heart. Caven has quickly become my E of my favorite hero’s. He’s carrying the weight of the world on him, yet has such a tender and gentle side to him that I couldn’t help falling for him a little bit too.
I’ve been a long time fan Aly Martinez, but she blew me away with this one! This is such a great book that it should be on everyone’s one-click list. I seriously need the second book, because that ending!!! Seriously, go get this book!!!
A 4.5 STARS REVIEW
Wow! Aly Martinez always has a way to reel you in when it comes to her books especially the duets. The first few chapters alone gave me goosebumps. She takes a traumatizing situation and makes a story that will have you feeling things that will break you good with hopes that things will get better and hopes for more.
Caven Hunt’s background story is one that is not easy to overcome. He was determined to make something of himself and he has proven to be more hen he became a household name. He has accepted and content on living a bachelor’s life alone until one unexpected night ended with a baby left on his doorstep.
As I got to the end of the read I was still wondering what was going to happen. Anything I would predict would turn out not what I had expected. To top it off nothing could have prepared me for that cliffy and now has me wondering did I miss any clues?!?!
I’m writing this review with limited details because the first time reading will give you the feels and understanding the journey that the characters faces. It is filled with surprise twists and turns that will give you a challenging time putting the book down. I’m still in awe on everything that happen and anticipating answers in Written in You (The Regret Duet #2). In the meantime my mind will be spinning and guessing.
What a fascinating story! Starts with a bang and ends on a slap! Full of surprising twists and turns, this book will keep you occupied even after you’ve closed the last page.
Stunning, catastrophic and hopeful all at the same time, it manages to punch you in the jaw when you LEAST EXPECT IT!! Expect a severe whiplash when truth gets revealed.
The story progresses casually, with accidents and incidents happening along the way, characters meeting, karma interfering and some unexpected consequences.
Characters are very clear cut, or so it seems. they project expected reactions, have secrets and skeletons in the closet and are coming to terms with their demons. On the path to redemption you end up feeling sorry for them, have forgiveness in your heart.
Lots of OMG moments till you fast approach towards the end. You think what a wonderful tie up of loose threads, clouds have parted, sun is shining and there’s rainbow in the sky.
Then Aly decides to create a seismic explosion and pull the ground from beneath your feet. The characters get torn down like paper, your jaw falls to the floor, love turns to hate and the only sentiment you’re left with – She DID NOT just do THAT! Obviously a cliffhanger
W.T.F. grrrrrrrrrrrrr that cliffhanger ending!
Ok ya’ll prepare yourselves for this book because it’s filled to the brim with shocking WTF moments and a plot twist that will blindside you and take you by complete surprise. Written with Regret had me hooked from the prologue to the very end.
I am chomping at the bit for Written with You!
WOW! I did not see that coming at all. TOTAL MIND**CK! I love this book. From the first page I was captivated with this book. I love Caven! After that ending I’m setting here with my mouth open still and trying to process everything! I can’t wait for the next book. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!

What a phenomenal story! Hooked from the beginning until the end. I devoured this read filled with twists and turns. Once you think you’ve figured it out, hold on!!! The angst and the chemistry between them is palpable you can’t help but root for them. That ending!!! I can’t wait for book 2!!!
I’ve always been a massive Aly Martinez fan, and the first book of this duet doesn’t disappoint it will have you hooked from page one
Whao! What an amazing read this was, I can’t even describe all the emotions it pulled from me. Like all of them! This book has it all us readers want in a book. And that ending makes u want even more. There is no way u can’t pick up this book and not want to finish it all in one go. Dying for more Caven and Hadley!
AMAZING start to this new duet by Aly! 5 bright stars for this one and I can’t wait to read book 2!
Meet Caven, he had a rough start to life and the results of that start led him to change his last name and excel at selling his face recognition program he developed with his best friend Ian for millions throwing him into a status he’d only dreamed of. However before all this, he spent one night with a woman, Hadley that resulted in a beautiful baby girl, that was left with a note from Hadley on his doorstep, whom he named Rosalee, and she changed his life!
Hadley needed to get her life in order, she’s been living with a nightmare as she too was a part of the events that changed their lives forever.
I won’t give anything else away, but this story tore at my heart, I felt all kinds of emotions while reading this story! I truly am amazed at the way Aly takes these stories and completely blows your mind! And this one will! Everything you thought you knew will completely blow your mind! Grab this asap!!
Enraptured. That is the one and only word that I can use to sum up the experience of reading Written with Regret.
The first of this duet story had me hooked from the very beginning and only had me wanting more by the very end.
Martinez was a new author for me and I could not be happier that I found her work; I only wish I would have discovered her sooner.
With heart stopping action and some of the best angst I’ve ever read, this story will leave you breathless as it ends with a cliffhanger that will have you begging for more.
If you are looking for a great read with characters with so much depth I could never tire of, this the story for you!
As Always, Happy Reading!
“5/5 Beaming Brains!” – Lit-Up My Mind
Life in non-technicolors 4.5 stars
Aly Martinez has an amazing ability to write stories that burrow deep into your soul and evoke emotions that leaves you bleeding.
Written With Regret is the story of two individuals who are shoved together into an unthinkable situation that is purgatory itself and survived it, barely. The prologue started off with a bang!!! And I mean a loud, awful bang that obliterated the lives of many, but especially the lives of our hero and heroine.
Fast forward 14 years into the future, Caven is successful and living THE life, then suddenly BAM! On the day he is supposed to feel on top of the world, he find out he has a baby with a one-night-stand. He’s left feeling more helpless than ever, not knowing whether it is true or not. But when fate decides to intervene, we mere mortals cannot disagree with it.
Fast forward to present time, Caven’s life in the last four years have changed and for the better. He could not think of life without Rosalee, his tiny dynamite of pure joy. OMG! She is frigging everything. I fell head over heels in love with the tiny human. We learn more about Caven and his life, his struggle to do everything in his power for his baby. His doubts about his ability, his worthiness. I feel a little more in love with him as I read on. Then there was Rosie’s mom, who all these years have been battling her own demons to come to a point, where she could give something back to the precious life she had left at Caven’s doorstep.
Written With Regret will make your heart hitch and your soul shatter with moments in the present and past that amalgamates to settle into the present. There were moments that made me angry. Moments that made my eyes tear up with the sheer unfairness. But we all know, life isn’t fair or easy.
As I read along, I felt every emotion that Ms. Martinez portrayed through the characters. I felt the heartbreak, the fear and the suspicion. More characters were introduced to the mix who I hope gets their own stories in the future.
Sometimes life isn’t black and white. There are nuances that every shade in between where lies the truth and the hardest part about life.
What in the world? I have to wait ten days for the next book? TEN DAYS with a cliffy like that is like a nagging sliver under a fingernail that you can’t remove. This book is going to pulse under my skin until I can get my grabby hands on Written with You.
Written with Regret has an unexpected twist that has me salivating for the conclusion. Caven and Hadley otherwise known as “oil and water” initially in my eyes anyway, have more than one unique bond, a bond beyond the daughter they created together, which has a life of it’s own.
Moving beyond the awkward and trustless stage, these two have it all in the palm of their hands, except now there’s a twist that may not bode well for their developing relationship.
Aly Martinez never ceases to amaze me with the words she puts on paper. With the feelings she emits with each story.
I don’t think I have ever come across a book that sucked me in as fast and with as much intensity as Written with Regret. Not only did it lure me in, but it held me steadfast to my seat. Yet, that is what Aly does. She writes stories that are so unique in plot, and characters that you don’t want to, can’t seem to let go.
Caven and Hadley. These two have been in each other’s lives through good and bad. They suffered together and apart. And through that suffering they created a miracle. But sometimes what we need to do is not what we want to do. The selflessness comes from doing what we need.
The twist and turns, the compassion and heartbreak, the joy and anger all set to make this one of the best stories I have read this year. Oh, and of course with a duet, Aly always lives us with a surmountable cliff hanger. And I for one cannot wait for Written with You.
Well Aly Martinez has left me with my eyes bugging out and my jaw on the floor with the ending we got. This book left me with the biggest cliffhanger I’ve ever read in my life!
I was completely engrossed, I mean to the point where everything around me was neglected because this book sucked me completely.
Caven and Hadley’s story completely ruined me, I mean COMPLETELY!!
I can’t even right now, I’m still trying to process this book to the point where I just can’t get my hands on another book because this one has left me shattered and speechless at the same time.
I just have to say that Aly Martinez knows how to make people lose sleep for days after finishing her superb stories.
Holy Hannah, what just happened?!
Let there be no doubt: Aly Martinez has an amazing gift for penning these intricately twisty, nuanced stories. This one started with a bang – in a way that immediately had me on the edge of my seat, heart racing, eyes pooling with tears, horrified, heartbroken and utterly unable to look away from my Kindle.
That’s what hooked me – this immediate assault on my emotions that then seemed to effortlessly segue into something lighter and sweeter. There is some kind of genius in the way that this took me from a sort of shattered, heartbroken feeling to butterflies in my belly, laugh-out-loud moments, and the sweet ache of love in my heart. There’s some kind of wizardry in the perfection of how this all played out, how no emotion was left untouched, and yet I never felt like it was too much of any one thing, or too manipulative of my feelings.
It was perfection. And my heart was completely lost to it.
And then. And then. The rug was pulled out. And I have no idea what happened. No idea what’s going on. The cliffy on this one is a doozy and I am positively twitching with the need to get the rest of the story. I’m dangling out on the edge of this cliff, finding it hard to breathe, and I want answers!
So. It was amazing. It was SO GOOD! I loved every minute, even the ones that made it hard to breathe, and good God – I cannot wait for more!
Written with Regret was my first book by Aly Martinez and if this one is anything like her other books, I’ve been missing out! This story starts off with so many intense emotions and shocking events, that I couldn’t put it down!
This book is one that you need to only know what’s in the blurb and go from there. I think the emotions and story are something you need to experience first hand and just feel. Caven and Haley both have events in their pasts that have made them who they are and let’s just say not things everyone deals with daily. There lives are turned upside down and they have to find their new normal.
I will say one thing, if you like single father romances, I would definitely pick this one up. In all honesty, I would’ve loved a smaller jump in time at the beginning of the book. After all the emotions with what Caven deals with, I missed the part with him adjusting. I’m not saying it wasn’t interesting after that, but I think that would’ve given me just a little bit more to add a little more connection.
Written with Regret is an emotional roller coaster. I smiled, laughed, cried, got frustrated and hoped for a happily ever after. This story doesn’t slow down though. There are so many twists and turns and secrets I didn’t expect, I really didn’t know how it was going to end. I had a feeling that it was going to end in a cliffhanger (this is the first book in the duet) and I was right. This author definitely left us hanging!! I need the next one now.
What I loved most about this story is that this author knows how to write. They way she wrote Caven and Haley, I connected with them and felt all the emotions she was describing. I love when authors can suck me in like that. On top of that there are flashbacks in this book that give us the whole story bit by bit. This is also something I really enjoy, because in some cases the story becomes more intense when you don’t have all the pieces at once. Especially in the events we read about in Written with Regret.
If you’re looking for a book with all the feels, a single father, a little girl that makes you smile and a couple you want to be happy, definitely pick this one up. If I were you, I would wait until Written with You is available, because this cliffhanger makes you want more!
