Every little girl dreams of the fairytale. The one where the white knight rushes in to save her from the clutches of evil. They fall in love, have babies, and live happily ever after.By that definition, my life should have been a fairytale too. When I was eight years old, Caven Hunt saved me from the worst kind of evil to walk the Earth. It didn’t matter that I was a kid. I fell in love with him … in love with him all the same.
But that was where my fairytale ended.
Years later, a one-night stand during the darkest time imaginable gave us a little girl. It was nothing compared to the pitch black that consumed me when I was forced to leave her with Caven for good.
At the end of every fairytale, the happily-ever-after is the one thing that remains consistent. It wasn’t going to be mine, but there hadn’t been a night that passed where I hadn’t prayed that it would be hers.
I owed Caven my life.
However, I owed that innocent child more.
And that included ripping the heart from my chest and facing her father again.

Ally Martinez expertly SLAYED this story, nailing every single word and every emotion. It’s perfection!
I knew this book would have a cliffhanger, it is part one of a duet, with the second book to follow quickly and thank heavens for that because WOAH !! WTF did i just read??? You never know what to expect from this author, but the one thing you can be sure of is that you will read a book that will absolutely leave an impact on you.
It’s difficult to voice my thoughts on this book, because i want to shout from the rooftops, but also giving clues of the plot could totally ruin this exceptional story of trauma, love, trust, forgivness, hope and Lies!!
Caven with his gorgeous little daughter was the perfect male hero, and truly takes hold of your heart, Hadley quickly gained her place also in my heart and from the first page I could not set this book down. It’s original, it’s fresh, it’s emotional, it’s gutsy with twists and turns that keep you captive and your heart clinging desperately to the edge, because you KNOW at some point something is bound to shatter but I NEVER EXPECTED THAT!! I love that this author took me into so absolutely into Caven and Hadley’s world and I love to hate that she totally owned my heart and emotions!!
Wow, just wow. When it comes to books written by Aly Martinez, I tend to tread carefully. I need to get my bearings straight because I know she’ll take us on a crazy ride and leave us hanging and wanting more. And my goodness, we get it and I just do not know how to feel.
As usual, you are easily so sucked into Hadley and Caven’s story. I was so on edge the whole book because I knew a big twist was going to be dropped on us. And I was eagerly trying to figure it out. Throughout the entire book, I had my questions about what happened that tragic day.
I had my theories about 60% in and was hoping so hard it wouldn’t go that way because I knew it would completely alter my feelings. And sure enough, it did.
To say I’m nervous for the final book in this duet is a complete understatement. I fell in love with Caven and Hadley almost instantly. And now I’m just a mixed bag of something.
Two broken souls riddled with guilt come together to try and be a solid unit for their daughter. It’s a bit of a mess and you’ll be wondering how things will work all while everyone comes out of this unscathed. I have sooo many questions that will undoubtedly be answered in the concluding book.
Prepare yourself for this one, totally recommend, but maybe binge it when the next one is out!
Aly Martinez
Now she’s just showing off! LOL Aly Martinez takes my breath away. I kinda feel like she has someone in her life that says I wish someone would write a story about “this” and Aly is like, “here, hold my wine.” Honestly there is nothing I could say in this review that I haven’t said before in a review for an Aly Martinez book. It’s smart, original and unputdownable. You never know what to expect and you always get an amazing story with characters you love to love. From the very beginning I was all in. This story just flows. It’s funny and emotional and shocking. I hated putting it down to sleep. I cant wait to read more of these characters in the conclusion. As usual this is a not to be missed book!
How does she get me every…single…time? My emotions were so intense reading this story. I mean how can you help but feel so strongly about an abandoned baby and unexpected fatherhood and recovering from trauma. I really didn’t know where this story would go but there are some unexpected twists and sweet bonding moments. I can’t tell you how many times my little ol’ heart swooned over Caven or my eyes swelled up over Hadley’s introduction to her daughter. This book is just EVERY FREAKING THING. Beautiful but sad and so perfect…Caven and Hadley feel like they’ve lost almost everything and the family they have left is worth the world to them. Rosie is the precocious little girl that steals the show. I wanted to buy her 10 ferrets just to see her smile. Or maybe not ferrets…
Hadley Banks was 8 years old when her parents were murdered in front of her in a food court and her life was saved by Caven Hunt. Fourteen years later she finds herself pregnant with Caven’s child after a one night stand but she knows she is unable to care for their daughter, Keira, so she leaves her on his door step.
Caven Hunt is shocked to learn he is a father but vows to do the best he can to raise his daughter whom he names Rosalee. He vows to be the best father he can but is shocked when Hadley comes back four years later wanting to get to know Rosalee.
Will Caven allow Hadley a chance to be in their daughter’s life or is he worried that she will run again of things get tough?
What happens when someone discovers the secret that Hadley is hiding?
So this book is good on so many different levels and every time you think you have a handle on something a little nudge is given and you are wondering what is going to happen next and if Caven is going to discover what Hadley is hiding.
Hadley went through so much stuff as a child that I truly understood why she went looking for Caven after he saved her life and she had formed her own attachment to him. I was surprised that she gave him the baby so fast but I gave her credit for knowing she wasn’t at the right place to be able to handle a baby.
Caven sounded like a bit of a womanizer at the beginning but he had been through so much as well having lived through the same thing that Hadley did although his was deeper and I was definitely shocked!! I loved how once he got confirmation that Rosalee was his that he was an amazing father who gave the girl so much love and did whatever he could for her to raise her well.
I wasn’t surprised that Hadley came back but I was shocked at when she made her presence known and how she pulled it off. I was a little disappointed in her for that but I knew she was desperate for a chance to meet her daughter now that she had her stuff together. I did admire her for knowing that Rosalee was better off with Caven but she just needed a chance to get to know her.
Caven was a great character who had a huge heart and was so much more trusting than he should have been but I give him a lot of credit for awarding second chances to Hadley although I am not sure what will happen now. I liked that Ian kept questioning what was going on and he did it from a really good place as he was worried about Caven getting burned again.
There was a lot of chemistry between Hadley and Caven and I was really hoping things were going to work out but when Caven’s brother, Trent drops the huge bomb at the end I was completely shocked and blown away!!
‘Written with Regret’ is the new meaning of PLOT TWIST. ~ Blog The Butterfly Reads.
Aly Martinez manages to turn an event of an “almost” American real life (mass shooting) into an electrifying plot with all the ingredients to make the reader turn the page over and over.
Mystery, romance, friendship, tenacity, regrets, pursuit and passion.
An addictive read that you can’t miss.
5 stars
5 favorite stars!! Omg this book broke me and made me laugh my ass off!!
This is book one in the “Regret Duet”. Of course, it ends in a cliffhanger and oh shit what a cliffhanger it is!!!!!
I don’t even want to give anything on this book. You can read the blurb or go in blind but I read the blurb so long ago I forgot. I went into this book blind and it ROCKED MY WORLD! Like every single page made me forget the world around me. There are very few books in this world that can do this to me and damn this author got me. I am actually nervous for book two because how in the hell are you gonna top this. But I, seriously need book two NOW!
All the characters in this book are complex. And the two main characters are so lost and tragic they broke me. But more importantly the freaking sexual tension is undeniable and sexy as hell. I rooting for this relationship, even with all the twists and lies. It doesn’t hurt that Caven is what dreams are made of.
This book is so relatable to this time. We watch this kind of stuff on TV and many people from all over the world have either been effected by it or were a part of it. Sadly. I don’t think I have ever read a book that touched on this subject and I was completely in awe. The sadness, the hope, the anger, the desolation, and all the aftermath it really touches you. And on top of all that you have two people that create a beautiful little girl and need to find their way out of that hole and see what is in front of them.
This book flashes from past to future and at just the right times. The author is amazing and her writing is so realistic. Every time we flashed back I was on the floor next to a table watching every single move. I know that sounds crazy but I could see it. Kudos to this author for being that damn good.
And I just want to add the end had me yelling WTF. This book goes in my top five and is a definite MUST READ!!
**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review**
In love with Caven.
The only way to prepare you for this story is this:
Aly Martinez is an evil genius. She makes you pick up a pitchfork before you even start the book. I read the blurb and was immediately outraged. I was ready to march in and save everyone from this clearly evil troll. With just a blurb all my maternal instincts were on high and ready to avenge…hence the evil genius.
Aly Martinez is a master manipulator and a weaver of words. She is Scheherazade. Spinning her story and keeping you so invested that it is impossible to discard her! I didn’t want to read this book. The blurb made me so angry but I NEEDED to read it. Nothing, absolutely nothing Aly writes is cut and dry. I bet her freaking shopping list has a mic drop and a curveball. Here we are eating veggie burgers…with real bacon on them. That is Aly Martinez summed up!
Written With Regret starts off with a literal bang. One heard too far and too wide, but also too late. It is without a doubt the most effective way of changing the course of every reader’s preconceived notions. I no longer held a pitchfork, I was grasping for tissues!
Its not unusual to be taken in by Aly’s words. She had me at the start. I scrambled to stay ahead of everything and only caught up right before the reveal! I wish you luck because it comes fast and hard and you will be standing there with your mouth open and everything.
Now we wait…
And it’s going to kill me!
Reviewed for Sweet Spot Sisterhood
I finished this book awhile ago but struggled to right a review.
Aly Martinez is a one click author for me.
She never disappoints but holy moly, Written with Regret was tough.
From the blurb, I knew this book was going to be an emotional and gut wrenching.
Caven was amazing and I definitely connected with him.
Little Rosie ..be still my heart.
Hadley..I struggled with her.
The twists were definitely unpredictable. I might change my review to 5 stars after I read the conclusion on June 13th.

Would I recommend this book? Yes
If there is one thing I love about Aly Martinez’s work, it is her ability to suck me and and not let go. And HOLY JAW ON THE FLOOR Written with Regret did just that. The opening alone broke my heart and had me itching to know what was next.
It started with chaos. Continued with a mystery. And progressed with fear and hope and mystery and anxiety love. This is the story of trouble souls who somehow, find solace and comfort in the fact that they understand the pain of their shared past. Both Caven and Hadley struggle with guilt. One from ‘that day’ and the other with their actions years later. Though they both did their best to make up for what happened and move forward.
The more I got to know Caven the more I just wanted to wrap him up and protect his tender and guarded heart. I loved the way he loved Rosalee. She was his world and such a bright spot in all the heaviness within the pages. Her joy and youthful innocence almost stole the show. But it was when Hadley came back into the picture that things took off. I felt Caven’s fear and Hadley’s hope as they tried to find a comfortable middle ground on what was best for Rosie. Though It didn’t take that long for the lines Caven drew to get blurry where Hadley was concerned.
The glimpses into the past. The current myriad of emotions. I knew that it was building to something that was going to leave me devastated. And was I ever right. I mean this is Aly Martinez the other shoe had to drop at some point and when it did I was left totally speechless (like mouth hanging open, eyes bugging, blindsided). GAH!! I need the next part of this duet now!!
I can’t even begin to convey how much this story sent me into an emotional tailspin. With each chapter I read I was smiling, crying, laughing, sobbing and yet I couldn’t put it down, didn’t want to put it down but at the same time I wanted to savor every word of this heart-wrenching story. Everytime I read one of Aly’s books that has me an absolute mess with just the Prologue, I know it will be a gut-wrenching, riveting, bring me to my knees kinda read, one that without a doubt will stay with me because it has consumed me…… THAT WAS THIS BOOK! This book was filled with twists and turns that left me shocked, floored and jaw-dropped but none more than that bombshell of a cliffhanger! This is hands down a Top Read for me that I highly recommend!
I really not sure where to start or if my mere words can do this emotional read justice. Written with Regret is one of the those books that takes your breath away and throughout this read I found myself sighing and holding my breath. It’s hard to say something that hasn’t already been said about this book and I really don’t want to write a review full of spoilers because I believe you need to dive in with no expectations to get the best from this story, so I guess I’m just going to tell you how I felt about this original read, it captivated me, it’s full of twists and turns, it flows, it has amazing characters that you will fall in love with and it’s an emotional yet funny read and I really hope that makes sense to you all because I urge you to one click this great story. I have to point out like all other Aly Martinez duets you will be left gasping and holding your breath but it’s not long til Book 2 is released and I’m sure it will be worth the wait . Another great read from this very talented author
HEARTBREAKING & ENTHRALLING!
WHOA!!! THIS BOOK!!!
This book is most definitely a HEARTSTOPPER!
These characters! The plot!! That one part that left me MINDBLOWN!!!
The book in it’s entirety had me all kinds of HOOKED!!
Utterly consumed by Caven & HIS WORLD!!! NO SPOILERS!!! Caven is 110% a favorite of mine now! No doubt about it, you’ll see why he’s so swoony and then I dare you to come tell me you felt nothing! HAHA! You won’t be able to, because you will LOVE HIM TOO! Oh and them too…you’ll love HIS WORLD TOO! The emotions in this one will leave you breathless!
Man, I can’t believe I slept on this! I’ve seen it over the last year and half but every time I came across it I didn’t have a chance to dive into it. Then I was looking through my TBR for a book with a red cover for a challenge…and THERE IT WAS!
That prologue snagged my complete attention and then the ENTIRE FREAKING BOOK kept me until the last moment! I pulled an all-nighter to finish it. Knowing ahead of time it was a duet I should have known I wouldn’t have been able to finish it and then patiently wait until morning to write a review and only THEN dive into book two. Nope…I dove straight into book 2 at 3:39AM. I have no regrets! This book was AMAZING and I needed more ASAP!
Written With Regret is book 1 of the Regret Duet. I definitely recommend it! I’m already 79% into book 2 and it’s just as captivating as book 1!
Boy am I glad book two was already out because the cliffhanger this book ended with left me astonished. Can you say plot twist??
I am not going to go into the plot. Everyone deserves to fall in love with this story just as I did. Written with Regret had everything you could want in a story with everything from heart pounding moments of suspense to delicious angst. You think you know what is going to happen but your really don’t.
“Not everything was black and white. It was often in the gray areas where the hardest decisions are made.”
Caven made this story for me because in the past flashbacks and even in the present he is the hero everyone deserves. Not in the traditional sense but in the way that he is fiercely protective of his daughter and loves whole heartedly. Now our heroine on the other hand, that girl is a real piece of work but while you simultaneously want to throttle her you also want to hug her for all the terrible things that she has been through.
Captivating and remarkable Martinez’s story about the heartaches from your past following you through your life will give you hope that even in the darkest times you still have time.
I really enjoyed this book! Holy wow! Cavin & Hadleigh’s story is amazing. It’s a slow burn so you need to have patience. But it’s so worth it. The plot twist at the end is crazy! Andi Arndt & Christian Fox do an awesome job narrating!
I must admit that i love an awesome cliffhanger and this one is no exception, i am just glad that i am late to the party and i can dive straight into the next book, which i never usually do but i am too excited to see how this story ends.
I loved this story from the beginning with all the twists and turns that we get from the beginning to the last page.
I loved Caven the way he protects his daughter and the relationship he has with her i love it and i love Rosalee she is special and the kids in books always make you feel good and give you a great laugh and Rosie is no exception.
Hadley is the mystery in this book and deeper we go the more things come to light and you really just know what to think, both Craven and Hadley share such a connection and the fact they experience the same event really brings the feels to this book.
I know I’m being vague but this is a story you need to go into blind and plus it’s a duet so i don’t want to say too much to spoil the other book but these are a must read and i can’t wait to get into the next book.
I haven’t read many Aly Martinez books but the ones i have so far have been amazing and this one is just as amazing
such plot twist! Had to read 2nd part right away….
It is complicated. Enjoyed this read; there are some difficult to imagine scenes and sorrows. I could not stop with just this book but had to continue with the next in the series, Written for You.
