Every little girl dreams of the fairytale. The one where the white knight rushes in to save her from the clutches of evil. They fall in love, have babies, and live happily ever after.By that definition, my life should have been a fairytale too. When I was eight years old, Caven Hunt saved me from the worst kind of evil to walk the Earth. It didn’t matter that I was a kid. I fell in love with him … in love with him all the same.
But that was where my fairytale ended.
Years later, a one-night stand during the darkest time imaginable gave us a little girl. It was nothing compared to the pitch black that consumed me when I was forced to leave her with Caven for good.
At the end of every fairytale, the happily-ever-after is the one thing that remains consistent. It wasn’t going to be mine, but there hadn’t been a night that passed where I hadn’t prayed that it would be hers.
I owed Caven my life.
However, I owed that innocent child more.
And that included ripping the heart from my chest and facing her father again.

Riveted! Completely riveted from the beginning until the last page!
BUT…
This is just book #1 of a duet so, BAM! Cliffhanger…OMG! Aly what did you do to me?
Given the books that Aly Martinez writes, I was semi-prepared for drama, a cliffhanger, and turbulence, but not to the extent that I read. Written With Regret is an amazing up and down emotional read. I am now waiting with major anticipation for Written With you when it releases next month.
GAH! An entire month….but until then…
Written With Regret flows in and out of the present and the past. Both Hadley Banks and Caven Hunt have been traumatized by events in their past and that carries into what they experience together in their present.
Why am I being vague…well…because Aly is a master genius with her gripping story and I hate to give away too much of the storyline in revealing not only what happens to Hadley and Caven in their past, but also in their present.
What I will say is both characters at some given time (and sometimes a few times) fall under the antihero category. They both not only show traits of questionable characteristics, but also of redeemable ones as well.
Some may question why? Caven seems like the perfect hero, a rescuer on so many levels, where as Hadley multiple times refers to herself as Hadley the terrible. So why would I throw both of them under this same category?
Caven holds a dark secret, but aside from that, he also isn’t the most forgiving guy. I neither agree with nor condone Hadley in what transpires in her life, but I can certainly sympathize with a woman in her condition. For everything Caven has gone through in his life he lacks some compassion, but with that aside, it does heighten the overall story on how exactly how he is going to react to Hadley, so his emotional temperament is easily set aside because Aly does an excellent job weeding them out through Hadley’s POV. Also, I get the feeling, he has an agenda. I could be wrong, but…time will tell.
Hadley is easy to see that she is set up as an antihero early on in the story. As the story begins she’s the villain, but you’ll find yourself warming up to her and quickly changing your mind. Does Hadley also have an agenda? She just might…again time will tell. I have a feeling these two characters will continue to interweave in and out of this category as we move forth into the next book.
Again…GAH…a month, but if you love a gripping story. You will love this book!!
Some books ease you I’m to the story but not Aly oh no. The prologue slaps you in the face with it’s breathtaking intensity. I didn’t see it coming and no lie my heart felt like it was pounding in my chest.
Aly is an author who always delivers the unexpected. From the synopsis I’d made my mind up about Hadley and I said there’s no way I’ll change my mind but I did. Caven and Hadley have a complicated devastating back story. I liked that the story was told in dual POV. Seeing Caven struggle as a new dad was funny and sweet wrapped up in a delicious hunk of man. Rosealee is the sweetest little girl who you’ll fall in love with and feel protective of.
There’s little clues that something isn’t right that there’s an element of the story were missing. Was I prepared for that ending ? No way, it was not what I was expecting at all. Book two can’t come quick enough.

Well that prologue just about did me in, this is going to be a bumpy ride! Chapter one this author doesn’t just ease you in after that prologue oh no we just jump right back in the thick of it.
Aly Martinez is like the queen of duets. Written with Regret is the first book in the duet so she lays out this story that is filled with twists and turns that has your mind absolutely tortured! Not only does she create very unique and incredible main characters, but the secondary characters are as well, with a simply riveting storyline.
When you think you know where the story is going, and you turn the page nope you don’t! And I am not going to tell you anything I learned you’ll have to read it for yourself!! Is it June 13th yet…!!!
I have no words to tell you how amazing this book is! Aly Martinez is sheer genius when it comes to writing a story that will draw you in and plot twists you will not see coming! Hadley and Caven are the ultimate star crossed couple you will be rooting for! Rosalee, their four year old daughter, will have you smiling and laughing at her antics! I will warn you that this is a cliffhanger. So if that is not your thing, just wait until June and you can have the ending to this duet! I, for one, cannot wait! 5 stars
Wow! Aly Martinez is an amazing author! I loved all the angst in this story, but I was not prepared for the ending! I cannot wait for the second book!
The moment Caven Hunt came into her life a unexplainable connection took hold, he was her saving grace in a very traumatic time in her life, and she has never forgotten his kindness.
Some years later it was that same connection that reunited them, and pushed them to take comfort in one another. When they ran into one another at that bar she never expected it to lead them back to his place, nor that it would bring them a daughter. But it did, and at the time she wasn’t in the right state of mind to handle being a mother, and so she did what she thought was best for their daughter, and left her on his doorstep.
Now she is back in town, with a renewed sense of hope and in a healthier place in her life. She wants to become a part of their lives… but Caven isn’t so willing to let that happen.
Within the pages of this novel lies a gut-wrenching story that will reek havoc on your emotions, make you question everyone’s motives, and leave your jaw on the floor… this one ends with the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers!! This story put me through the emotional ringer, it had my heart in my throat almost the whole way through, you couldn’t help but get wrapped up in these characters lives and feel for them. I cannot wait to see how this all plays out! Be prepared to have your heart tortured with this one, it’s words will move you to tears, and it’s characters will steal your heart! Highly recommend!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
Holy Moly!!! Aly Martinez is a freaking amazing writer!!! I did not see that ending coming. AT ALL. This story is a tapestry of love, hate, pain, regret and angst woven so brilliantly around an adorable 4 year old. I felt Hadley and Caven’s mixed emotions so deeply. I empathized with each of the actions that got them where they were. I can’t get this fantastic story out of my head and I have no clue how I will make until the second part of this duet is out.
