Falling in love is easy.Falling out of love is the hardest thing in the world. And Elin and Ty Whitt are terrible at it.The first time the local basketball star smiled at Elin, she was a goner. It was just so damn easy to fall for the dark-haired hometown hero with his charming smile and strong, athletic build.Thousands of sleepy smiles, aimless drives down country roads, and squeaks of the … country roads, and squeaks of the backdoor after a swing shift later, reality hits. And it hits hard. Falling in love was definitely the easy part. Watching it break apart was impossible.
Through the tears, the second-guesses, the memories of a life built together, the world keeps spinning. With each turn comes clarity and hope—sometimes in the form of a pair of muddy boots by the back door or from the words of a wise friend.
When Ty shows back up with a new found determination to put his family back together, Elin’s torn between the fights of the past and the possibility of a new start. This is the man that holds her heart, the man she loves beyond anything else. But this is also the one person in the world that can cause her the most pain.
Life’s not always easy. Love’s not for the faint of heart. But with life comes lessons and Ty and Elin have the scars to prove it. But it’s their love written in those scars that will hold them together … or break them apart.

Written in the Scars is one of those reads that will stick with you for a very long time!
“Life isn’t easy. Love isn’t for the faint of heart. You have to just put your fears aside and go for it.”
Adriana Locke’s writing is flawless! This story surrounding Ty and Elin is packed with marital struggles, infertility, friendships and family that will bring you to tears! The love and heartache these incredibly lovable characters go through will rip your heart out. There’s no fairy tale romance here, it’s heartbreaking, gritty, raw and real.
How do you find the words to describe a book that holds such an emotional punch?
Adriana Locke is one of those authors that I can’t wait to devour her books, and Written in the Scars was put on my TBR list before it even had this name. Ty and Elin are characters that are so real that their problems feel like your own. Their best friends (Elin’s brother, Jiggs, his wife, Lindsay, and Cord- oh, Cord!!) are characters that you want to make your best friends. I was sucked in from page one, and cried through most of it- those tend to be books that I love because then I know I actually care about the characters. The plot is so realistic that most people can make a connection pretty easily.
I may have gotten off of the emotional roller coaster that this book is, but I’ll be feeling it for a while. Phenomenal book!
Oh, and I loved the Lincoln Landry reference- now I can’t wait for him!
Wow! It’s a great book. My emotions were everywhere! I cried so much. I love everything in this book. At the beginning it was an insta catch, I can’t stop reading. Elin and Tyler are a wonderful realistic couple with some situations in live that we everyone can have. I love how the story is developed and I love their HEA
This book is amazing and heartbreaking all at once. Be prepared to tons of tissues! Great narration that brings this book to life so well you feel as if you are going through it all with them. If you are looking for a good tear jerker then this book is perfect for you.
Well I asked for it….. I’m sitting her balling after reading this book. Every time I think I’ve gotten myself together I think about it and start crying all over again. Why do I say I asked for it? Well, I asked for book recommendations that will rip your heart out. This one came highly recommended and it did just that.
The main couple in this story are Ty and Elin. The majority of this revolves around their struggling marriage. However I felt like I got to know the supporting characters just as much. I guess really this book is about 5 friends and how they lift each other up and help hold it together for their friends. Everyone should have friends that they share this strong of a bond with. What is life without the type of strong bond of Ty, Elin, Jiggs, Lindsey and Cord share?
As hard as I cried and as tragic as this story is, it’s equally as moving. I highly recommend this one. Just be sure to have a good supply of tissues handy before diving in.
This book had me crying throughout the entire read. Sad tears, ugly tears, happy tears. A must read for sure.
Fantastic Audible Listen A Beautiful, Heartfelt Story
!
Written in the Scars
By: Adriana Locke
Narrated by: Kai Kennicott, Wen Ross
This is a fantastic book, it is a beautiful and heartfelt story, it takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride. Adriana Locke is a gifted author, she has a great writing style and ability to grab your attention and your heart, holding both captive for the entire book. The storylines and characters she created are realistic and easy to relate to. I adored these characters, my favorite is probably Cord, I kept thinking this guy needs his own book, he’s a perfect blend of wise beyond his years and a bit screwed up. He is one of Elin and Ty’s best friends, along with Lindsay and Jiggs. Ty is probably my next favorite character, a close 2nd to Cord, he and Elin have been together for years, it was always meant to be that way, but their relationship is on the rocks. Elin is not sure if she could forgive or take Ty back, but Ty is not done and will fight for what he wants. I loved how everything plays out in this book, his determination to get her back, to get them back. They have had their share of struggles but I was rooting for them all the way. I also loved the camaraderie and the dynamics of the tight knit circle of friends, how they supported each other and were there when they needed them. A lot goes on in this book and there is never a dull moment, there is lots of drama, it’s high in angst, lots of emotional and heartfelt moments, heartbreaking ones, some thrilling and suspenseful moments that take you to the edge of your seat and a wonderful and beautiful romance. Adriana Locke, thank you for another awesome book, it is so easy to get lost in the stories you create.
I listened to the Audible edition, Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross are talented narrators and voice artists. They did an awesome job portraying these characters, bringing each to life giving them their own voice and personality. They thoroughly grasped these characters persona, captured their emotions and projected them into their performance. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fantastic listen
An emotionally beautiful story of love, family, friendship and sacrifice. Elin and Ty are high school sweethearts. After a tragic accident at work and the struggles of the after effect Ty disappears for a while. Sometime goes by and now he’s back and determined to get a second chance with his wife but even though she still loves him she is angry and doesn’t know if she can trust him again. This was a lovely story of two couple trying to find their way back to each other with the help of meddling friends and family. It was quite an emotional journey these two have gone through years and I was in tears at the end of this story. Love the story and the wonderful characters.
I listened to the audio book.
I was drawn in from the very first word. I love to listen to books while I run errands & do housework. It makes chores so much more bearable. I started this one on the way out the door & next thing I knew it was 4 hours later! I couldn’t wait to finish this one! Ty & Elin’s journey was joyful & heartbreaking & everything in between. The narrators were spot on & just enhanced the characters & their journey.
5 stars for Written in The Scars by Adriana Locke. This book has got to be on of the realest books I have read. It was not all happily ever after. It was emotional and realistic. The story of Elin and Ty is what normal people go thru. Yes we all love our billionaire bad boys but really how realistic is that. These are two everyday people going thru the rough times in life and marriage. I loved this story. Granted I cried like a little baby a lot it was well worth it.
OMG! Okay, so you know how you think you are prepared to read a certain book? And to an extent you are! But what you weren’t prepared for was the curveball that the author throws at you in the end, the one that completely changes the dynamic of the whole story! I finished this story last night and let me tell you, I WAS NOT PREPARED! I was not prepared for the onslaught of EMOTIONS this book took me to. This story started with me SWOONING and immediately breaking my heart. And this story broke my heart, one line at a time. It healed me. It taught me things about life. It broke me. Again. Healed me once again, but emotionally I am still catching up. This book was AMAZING and one that I RECOMMEND everyone to read at least once! Trust me on this, you will fall in love with every aspect of this book!
5 Stars!
This is an incredible second chance romance between Ty and Elin. She is so strong brave and beautiful, her twin brother and his wife are all the family she has. She was married to her high school sweetheart for 7 yrs and then he just took off no word, nothing for over a year. She struggles to keep up with everything including bills. Ty shows up again wanting his family back. Elin is quite resistant to having her heart broken again but she has always loved Ty and didn’t fall out of love. Ty loves his wife and fights to get back in her heart. So many Feels I cried my eyes out quite a bit. LOVED IT!!
Beautiful, amazing, honest, real. This story is all of those and so much more. You’ll fall in love with Ty and Elin, and not only feel their struggle but be able to relate to it. The supporting characters, Jiggs, Lindsay and Cord are a huge part of this journey you won’t be able to put this book down.
“It’s not just the words we speak in a moment, but the weight of words over the course of time that matters. The words you choose every day add up. You are the words you speak, whether that’s constructive or destructive.”
I highly recommend this read!
This book….
What an emotional roller coaster! This book is breathtaking. I love how Adriana Locke wrote a book about a marriage in turmoil. It is very refreshing, because as any married person knows, being married isn’t always a walk in the park. Matter of fact, it is hard most days. However when you love your person enough, you are willing to fight for them. This book is gritty and raw. It is REAL. I loved watching Elin and Ty finding their way back to one another!
I highly recommend this book!
I absolutely loved this book! It was my first read from this author; an amazing story from beginning until end for me. Once you start reading it, you won’t be able to put it down.
Ty left town and his wife Elin to try and regain what he has lost, to clear his mind. After some time he comes back and tries to win back the love of his life. Elin was left broken hearted and went through some very hard times alone. When Ty walts back into her life, she doesn’t know what to do. Sometimes love isn’t enough and relationships end, no matter how much you love each other. But Ty is back and willing to fight for what he wants. But will it be enough? Will Elin give him another chance? Or are the scars too big enough for them to rekindle their marriage …
This one’s definitely a must read for me. I had tears in my eyes but totally worth it.
Some things in life you just can’t predict and for some things, some people, you have to be willing to fight for. One major thing that stayed with me in this story was this sentence “Life does pack a punch. But it’s the scars that make us who we are, that tells the story of the life we lived”. And it’s oh so true!
U need a box of kleenex for sure when u read this book… beautiful…romance.. well written book… congrats 🙂
Written in the Scars is a roller coaster of an ugly cry book. This story is written in heart wrenchingly beautiful prose that will have you falling in love with all of Locke’s characters, not just Ty and Elin. Before starting Written in the Scars I had been warned that Adriana Locke would rip my heart out with Ty and Elin’s story, but I was still not prepared for this book.
Adriana Locke knows how to write. She knows how to emote, entrance, and capture. Her characters are living breathing friends. They are the loves of our lives and the men of our dreams.
I knew going into this book that it would hurt. It would make me cry and it would make me feel. But don’t let that scare you because with every low there are also highs. No life is free of pain.
I fell in love, got angry, felt abandoned. I cried tears of despair, joy, and relief. I cried for happiness, friendship, and sadness. I laughed, smirked, and felt the ties that bind their friendships. Some may think that’s crazy but I know that it’s amazing writing.
My favorite Adriana Locke story!
What. The. Hell. No, I’m not crying, you’re crying! OMG, the emotions, the feels… they’re everywhere! Ew, yucky!
I just devoured this in one sitting. Even the first half had my heart hurting for both Elin and Ty. Marriage problems are no joke. There was a lot of hurt they had to work through. Then there was the last half…the last 20% gutted my cold dead heart. *sniff* Gah, what a book! Seriously, if you’re in the mood for a shit ton of angst, read this. I mean it’s not all angsty, the writing and story is phenomenal. <---my big word for the day. I still have those nasty emotions running through my body, blech. Two weepy thumbs up for this book.
