Written in Stone, the third book in the Cobble Cove Mystery series, was penned by Debbie De Louise and published in 2017. I have previously read the first two in the series and will be reading the remaining fourth in the near future. I enjoy the series and find myself easily connected to the characters and the setting in these tales.
Cobble Cove is in upstate New York, north of NYC. Alicia and her husband John are married and in their 40s with ~16 month old twins. After surviving a kidnapping and murder attempt, they’re finally settling into family life… when the mysterious text messages and emails begin arriving. A character from their famed cozy series has come alive, and it appears he wants to kill Alicia. When their editor arrives, all hell breaks loose at the local library. Sneaky the cat goes missing, then the editor winds up dead in the stacks. Whodunit?
My favorite aspects of the Cobble Cove series are the vibrancy of the characters and the detail in the setting. The town is easily pictured, and the citizens run the range of ornery to super sweet. I feel like it’s a finely tuned and balanced small village, one we’ve all visited on a shopping trip but never quite new what happened when we left. The author’s knowledge of library operations and tasks is fun to follow, and her love of cats easily shines through.
I recommend this series to traditional cozy lovers and those who want to experience a small town setting with a fun mystery and strong cast of characters. Looking forward to #4 in the coming weeks.
Alicia’s friend, Gilly, has finally moved to Cobble Cove to take over the Cobble Inn and work in the library. Alicia and John are also having a book signing for their latest mystery novel at the Cobble Cove Library. The event is being coordinated by their editor, Mary Beth Simmons, who has a tendency to rub people the wrong way. The morning after the book signing, John receives an email from a person using the name of their fictional detective, Mark Marks. He chalks it up to a prank, but Alicia is not so sure.
When Gilly finds Mary Beth dead in the library, Alicia notices that Mary’s blouse looks the same as the one she wore earlier. The fact that Mary Beth was shot from behind makes Alicia wonder if she was shot by mistake. To make matters worse, Sneaky is nowhere to be found.
Was Mary Beth the intended victim? Is Alicia also in danger? Where is Sneaky? With the library closed because it is a crime scene, what will happen to Sneaky? Can Sheriff Ramsay, Gilly, and Alicia unravel the mystery before somebody else dies?
Debbie De Louise has another great mystery with this story. The characters and situations are very realistic. They mystery is intriguing and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged clear to the end. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
