#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The eighth book in Diana Gabaldon’s acclaimed Outlander saga, the basis for the Starz original series. Don’t miss the new Outlander novel, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, available November 23!“Features all the passion and swashbuckling that fans of this historical fantasy series have come to expect.”—People 1778: France declares war on Great Britain, the British …
1778: France declares war on Great Britain, the British army leaves Philadelphia, and George Washington’s troops leave Valley Forge in pursuit. At this moment, Jamie Fraser returns from a presumed watery grave to discover that his best friend has married his wife, his illegitimate son has discovered (to his horror) who his father really is, and his beloved nephew, Ian, wants to marry a Quaker. Meanwhile, Jamie’s wife, Claire Randall, and his sister, Jenny, are busy picking up the pieces.
The Frasers can only be thankful that their daughter Brianna and her family are safe in twentieth-century Scotland. Or not. In fact, Brianna is searching for her own son, who was kidnapped by a man determined to learn her family’s secrets. Her husband, Roger, has ventured into the past in search of the missing boy . . . never suspecting that the object of his quest has not left the present. Now, with Roger out of the way, the kidnapper can focus on his true target: Brianna herself.

Loved Jamie & Claire’s story, the time-traveling aspect, character development, etc. The story grabbed me & I had to read all the sequels. Loved the STARZ show too (although parts were fairly graphic). Enduring love story, great dialogue, interesting view into past history. Love the Scottish Highlands!!!!!
If you’ve read the other Outlander books, then you must read this. Roger and Bri play a significant role in this book. I hesitate to give much away…the characters you have grown to love in the previous seven books all play a significant role. Some incredible surprises lurk around every page-turn. Of the eight books, this is my favorite.
This is book 8 of the Outlander series. The question of the week was what book kept you reading all night?….the answer is everyone of these has somewhere along the way. I picked this one because it’s the most recent. Trust me, you’re never bored reading any of the Outlander books. This one has several especially good little morsels that might keep one from putting it down all night. But caution! These books really should be read in order.
When you finish reading a series of books and you suddenly find yourself missing the characters and feel a little lost, you know the books were good. I have loved following these characters and feel as if I have made them friends. They have grown older with me, dealt with all of life’s joys and sorrows as I have.
I won’t ruin the book for someone who has not read it yet, but I will say that my heart ached for the characters separated from loved ones, I was anxious when these characters were in danger, and loved getting to know new characters.
There is plenty of action, adventure, romance, and love in these books to keep everyone happy. I highly recommend getting lost in these books. Spend the coming spring and summer exploring the Scottish Highlands and all the other places you will be taken. You won’t regret it.
Oh, this one really lives up to its name!
Even though there are lots of other character POVs now, Jamie and Claire are still the heart and soul of this series and their love weathers through every challenge they face. There are several new complications in this book, including a life-threatening injury. John finds himself a prisoner of war. William deals with the emotional fallout of discovering his true parentage. Ian and Rachel and Denny and Dottie must overcome the obstacles keeping them from marrying to find their own HEAs. Together, they all get through another Revolutionary War battle. Another awesome read that was hard to put down.
The Outlander series is my all time favorite. Theses books have everything, action, adventure, history, romance, life lessons and food for thought. They are long books, but quick reads. I most highly recommend reading all in order.
If anyone hasn’t read the Outlander series, you should do so! if you like the series on tv, you will LOVE the books. Not for the faint hearted, these books are lengthy, but I guarantee that when you finish one you will wish it was longer! This book is the last one published in the series (not to worry, Diana is busy writing the next one as I type!). She is such a wonderful story teller that you truly feel that you are in the battle, or sleeping in the loft at the print shop!
WONDERFUL! Lots of action! I am so sad that the series is over though. Start to finish every book was great. You will fall in love with Jamie and Claire.
For sheer genius in characterisation and wonderful writing Diana Gabaldon has few peers. To pick up one of her books is to immerse yourself in the magical world she creates. I have found myself searching the historical references she makes to find out more of the history of the period.
All her books are fantastic reads and I can’t wait for the next one.
Need I say anything ? it’s Outlander : )
Read everything by Diana Gabaldon?
Part of a continuing story.
Great continuation of the series! Can’t wait for the next one!
Love the whole series. Have actually read the series twice and if you know her books some of them are very thick. Amazing story line, great characters, held off on watching the series as I didn’t want to change how I saw the characters in my head, turned out to be fairly close. Reading the books is still the way to go.
This is my 4th time reading this series. Sad to think the series in done but I did see that Diana gabaldon is writing another book
Fabulous! I have been reading these books since the mid 1990’s, they are so engrossing! The characters are my favorite fictional people, their lives are important to me. I love learning how daily life worked during the late 1700’s—hard, yes! I can’t get enough of this series.
This is, without a doubt, the most exceptional historical fiction I have ever read. The whole series will be a classic for many generations to come.
Part of the Outlander series – what more can one say??
I loved this book as a part of the Outlander series. It will not disappoint if you are a fan of Outlander.
