From her first step onto Canderfey University’s campus Joanna Wick, the new librarian-in-training, is overwhelmed by the bustle of people and the wealth of magical information now available to her. Most overwhelming of all, she attracts the attention of three handsome professors. But Aiden King, Callum Pike, and Isaac Metclaffe are a coven waiting to find their fourth and complete their home and … and Joanna knows she can’t be that witch. She’s barely magical.
When danger crawls onto the campus from the edges of the Hand Woods, and irrepressible feelings crawl into her heart, Joanna Wick must explore her own identity and abilities.
Aiden has been waiting twenty years to complete his coven. Callum doesn’t want to disappoint his covenmates by turning down another potential fourth. Isaac has found a home with them both and only wants the best for his lovers. Have they found what they’ve all been waiting for in the skittish new hire at the university library?

What can I say about this book? It’s the beginning of one of my all time favorite RH series. One of my first RH books I’ve ever read and I wasn’t disappointed. The world building and character development of the main female character is fantastic. The ups and downs of the beginning of relationships is so clearly portrayed and handled well. Plus, there are side characters you get invested in right away.
If you love fantasy, reverse harem romance and books have a special place in your heart then do yourself a favor and pick this up!
When I asked for recs in a facebook group a couple of months ago, this was one of the books that came up. It immediately grabbed my attention because it really seemed to be the kind of book I was looking for. And since I finished the last Lyla Oweds book last week, it was time to start a new series. A perfect excuse to finally get this adventure started!
And wow, this book was amazing! I think the thing that stood out the most was the atmosphere. Moon’s book is so emotionally driven. It’s so focussed on how the characters are feeling and what the characters are feeling and how they express those feelings. Every scene had a function. The sex wasn’t just sex, mindless daydreaming wasn’t just cute and all those conversations and run ins were really going somewhere. I almost regretted reading this book in the bus and train, because I think I would enjoyed it even more at home, where I could have the atmosphere swallowing me completely. I might keep that in mind for the second book.
An emotionally driven book however also asks for great characters. And Moon did manage to write those. The three men in the harem are all different and unique and although there is without a doubt much more to learn about them, what we’ve seen is already very interesting. And then there’s of course Joanna. As a bookworm and a girl who’s always felt plain in a world of special people it was so easy to identify with her and feel for her. Everything she does feels natural and fitting and although we know a little more than she does it’s clear she’s intelligent and only wants the best for people.
And as if this isn’t already enough awesomeness for a book, there also was a gripping and exciting plot. It took a while before the plot really came into full focus, but the build up was really well done, especially when all pieces of the puzzle clicked. And although the plot was exciting, it was mostly serving the emotional journey of the characters, which is what I like most.
After the amazing experience I had while reading this book, I can’t wait to dive into the second installment.
Really liked these characters!
Alrighty, so I have no clue why I waited so long to listen/read this series by Kathryn Moon! I loved the men in this coven and LOOOOOVED they were already intimate and in love with each other. My biggest guilty reading pleasure is M/M so it was awesome to have that element in this RH story.
Joanna grew on me in this book. I kinda had moments I wanted to knock some sense into her, but by the end of the book she was amazing. Characters have to grow in these books anyway, so Kathryn did a good job showing that just in book 1. I thought the concept was cool and defeating the hollow was interesting. Love the idea of writing magic and Joanna not knowing about her heritage and powers this whole time. Loved the other coven and can’t wait to see more of Bryce and all of them. Maybe they can get their own novella, I am super intrigued by them, not gonna lie. I loved the differences in Joanna’s men and how they figure out and handle that she is their 4th coven mate. BTW the scene with Isaac and Callum was . I mean all the sex scenes in this series is amazing haha.
I have heard one of the narrators before and was not disappointed! The other narrator is new to me and did a great job. I usually am not a super fan of narrators doing British accents but this was fantastic. They captured their personalities perfectly. Really read the story how I imagined it in my head, even adding some great inflections and accents I wasn’t expecting. Superb job, will definitely will listening to the rest of the series and other books by these narrators.
This is an interesting book. I liked the world that Moon created. Joanna is a quiet but strong lead. She doesn’t think she has much magic, but finds her world turned upside down after meeting 3 professors at the university where she came to work in the library. The romance moves a little quickly for me. I really liked Callum and I hope we see more of his backstory in the next book.
I was pleasantly surprised by this story. It is powerful, emotional, sexy and mysterious. This was very well-written.
Sex scenes are steaming hot and tasteful. Very hot!
I received an advanced copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an unbiased , honest review.
