Loved this book. I am now a Christine Gael fan for life! Writing Wrongs was all kinds of right for me.
“Entertaining and empowering. Christine Gael nailed paranormal women’s fiction.”
4.5 stars rounding up to 5
As I read this book and started to catch on to a few things I thought I had the base of the story figured out. While I did have that small part of the plot figured out there was still more to come. I enjoyed the relationships Cricket had with her cousin and grandmother, as a trio as well as separately. The suspense builds as the story comes to an end in a nail biting cliffhanger.
Wake up call
Aaah! It ends on a cliffhanger, just as we’re learning the truth about Cricket’s heritage. There’s lots of mystery in this tale and you’ll be kept on your toes trying to figure it out. One things for certain, there no wimps in Cricket’s family, that Mee-Maw is one scary granny.
I read Writing Wrongs on a recommendation from an author friend and I’m so glad I did! This book is Paranormal Women’s Fic, which is a fun, new genre about ladies on the shady side of forty who get involved with magic in one way or another. In Writing Wrongs, the heroine, who’s newly divorced and living in her grandmother’s basement while she tries to figure out what to do with the rest of her life, buys an antique typewriter and starts writing stories that come true.
This book had so many elements I enjoy in a story: small town, quirky family, magic, mystery, a love triangle with two yummy men who may or may not be on the up and up. The last few chapters of the book were incredibly suspenseful and got my heart pounding. If the next book was available, I probably would have jumped right into it so that I could find out what happened next. Hats off to the author for a very clever premise, some fantastic world-building, and an engaging heroine whom I found to be very relatable.
cute… I enjoyed reading it.
I liked the characters, the story… I did not fly through this, but that also maybe to the current situation of COVID-19. I will be reading the next one… And, Can I say I am loving these 40+ heroine books.
Ahhhhhh talk about the change in life… damn Cricket went big. She thought divorce and starting over was the hard part, then comes a typewriter of all things. Then stuff really hits the fan and now she doesn’t know what’s reality anymore let alone a real hot flash. I need book 2 stat!
This was a well written and unique story that followed a newly divorced woman in her late 40’s who returns to her home town to start over. However living with her grandmother is not her idea of a good time! Things start to take a turn when she is drawn to a mysterious typewriter that seems to be magical. Stories come to life and two very attractive men seem to want to date her. It picks up a steam towards the end and ends on a cliffhanger that definitely left me longing for the next one! Humorous, magical and a pretty epic five start read for me!
I loved this book. The characters are well written and likable. The scenes are described in great detail and the story line is unique.
This one has a lot of twists and keeps you turning the pages. I love the names of the protagonist Cricket and her cousin Zoe, I love Mee-maw and her spunk. I laughed out loud and honestly sat on the edge of my seat through some of it.
The ending was so unexpected and made me turn to the next page looking for more, I did that a couple of times. I can not wait for the next book in The Crow’s Feet Coven series to come out so that I can jump back in to this world again.
If you are tired of young women as the hero and strong protagonist and would love to read a book with an older woman in her 40’s as the main protagonist then this book is for you. Cricket is not a pushover by any means and no one except her Mee-maw can boss her around.
This one is one that any paranormal reader would love to read.
Writing Wrongs was intriguing and Cricket and her family were very likable, but know that it ends with one heck of a cliff hanger. Cricket is in her late 40’s, divorced w/ 2 kids and has two handsome men, Patrick and Ethan, vying for her attention. Something seems off and she’s not sure if she can trust either of them so she, her mee-maw, and cousin Zoe start doing some digging. Who can she trust Patrick(whom she just met) or Ethan(whom she’s known her whole life)? You will have to read to the story to find out. It will keep you on your toes and wanting more. I am eagerly awaiting the next book as I’m sure you will too!
Writing Wrongs just wasn’t a story that grabbed me at all…
I wasn’t keen on most of the characters I know the main woman was meant to be in her forties but honestly, it read like girls in their early twenties the only character I like was MeMaw she was great the rest just fell flat.
I wasn’t even halfway through when I knew I couldn’t read any more in this series but I would make myself finish this one just to see if it got any better but sadly it didn’t.
The plot was slow right up until the last few chapters and then my worst nightmare and cliffhanger ending well that just spoilt the whole book…
The storyline felt like it had threads that could have been tied off in this first story and some that could have continued into more books in the series without a cliffhanger ending and parts just felt unfinished I got to the end and thought wow that was just disappointing so many things were left hanging and unfinished.
I am working my way through the PWF books and this author was completely new to me. This is a well written book with a good storey but perhaps a bit too sweet and standard for my taste hence why i have given it four stars.

Writing Wrongs: Crow’s Feet Coven Book #1
An engrossing & surprising read. After coming to the unpopular conclusion that life was too short for mediocrity, Cricket decides to end her marriage, in the hopes she’ll find a great love, like she saw between her Parents!! Even if she never finds it she realises she can’t keep on living a half life! She moves back to her old home town & lives with her MeeMaw in the basement, she raised her after her Parents both died.
She’s working in her Cousin Zoe’s Bakery. They were brought up more like siblings & they’re bestfriends. At a local flea market Cricket is drawn to an old-fashioned typewriter, she can’t resist the urge to buy it. Later that night, after a frustrating phone call with her ex husband, a burning desire to write her first story takes her over! The following day at work a breaking News Story comes on the TV, she nearly passes out in shock – it’s exactly the same as what she wrote the night before, down to her characters name, after she tippexed her ex’s name out & changed it, She’s completely horrified!!
Things from there get stranger, creepier & definitely more supernatural!! Her Cousin & MeeMaw are eventually convinced & agree to help her! Whilst all of this weirdness is going on she meets a new guy Patrick, they definitely have some heat! An old flame is also back in her life & it seems like their connection is stronger than ever!!
I really liked this story, it held nothing back, emotionally. Cricket & Zoe were really authentic. The cliffhanger ending is a killer, Its so intense and twisted!! I’m really looking forward to book #2

A new to me author, I read this book as it was part of the 13 #PWF books.
I enjoyed the storyline, world building & the characters.
Me-maw has me LOL more than once. She’s a hoot.
Parts of the story dragged a bit, while a few parts seemed rushed & thrown together.
Overall a very good book. Read it in one sitting.
Looking forward to more books in this series.

Cricket Hawthorn is a 48 year old divorced woman living with her Mee-Maw.
Just trying to get back on her own two feet again, starting over is tough.
While working at a flea market with Mee-Maw she comes across an old typewriter that she just can’t take her eyes off of. Maybe she should try writing? She always loved writing little stories, maybe she could actually make a living at it.
There is something strange about the typewriter though, what she writes seem to come true. Not all stories in her mind are happy ones.
All of a sudden she becomes popular with the opposite sex, one from her past and one new man.
Horrible things are happening that makes Cricket decide some research needs to be done on it. She enlists the help of her best friend and cousin Zoe along with Mee-Maw to figure it out before anyone else gets hurt.
Everything points to witchcraft. Could she be a witch, do they even exist? If it does and she is how can she control it?
Be warned this book ends on a horrible cliffhanger!
New to this author, I absolutely loved this story and every little thing about Cricket and her family! A magical story with an intriguing and suspenseful storyline containing a predictive typewriter, a couple of hot guys, an crotchety old but awesome grandma, a secret group stealing magic and so much more! A fab over 40’s heroine finding her way in this exciting tale and that ending OMG I need book 2 like now please!!
Writing Wrongs: A Paranormal Women’s Fiction Novel (Crow’s Feet Coven Book 1)
by Christine Gael is a Paranormal story that is fun and crazy. 13 Fabulous authors got together and decided that life begins at 40 and over and that these women needed to have a voice. Christine gave us a unique look at one woman who is finding her way in the world after leaving her marriage. She also finds that she is now the proud owner of magic with no idea where it came from . Unfortunately, with it comes a danger that won’t stop and is steeped in history which makes for a very interesting story line that has twists and turns you don’t see coming and I loved the characters, Cricket, Mee-Maw and Zoe without even trying they get themselves into situations they may not survive. Just when I was so engrossed it stopped and now I am waiting with baited breath for the next one.
I have been reading the stories written by a group of authors about the MC being in her 40s and having to start over. This is one such work. I will admit that in the beginning I wasn’t sure I was going to like this as it was a little slow and I wasn’t sure I was going to like the characters. However, once the story starting picking up speed, I came to love Mee-maw, Cricket, and Zoe. Cricket has to live in her grandmother’s basement while waiting on the sale of her house, and she comes across a typewriter which gives her powers. What follows is an exploration of those powers and the ones who want to take them. I think the author, though, needs to expand the world a little bit by telling us of the flavor of the surrounding areas. It feels like the South, but it would be nice to know more about it to give an idea about how the people think. However, this is a fun book, and since the book ended on a cliffhanger, I’ll be waiting for the next one. Recommend!
Wow, I almost feel guilty about this review after reading the 5 star reviews. But 2 stars means ‘disappointing’ and that’s what this story’s ending was. The characters were good (loved Mee Maw), the mystery was good, I was really enjoying the story and characters and planning on getting more from this author until . . . the last chapter. Things suddenly just ‘happened’ with little to zero explanation. It’s as if there was a hard page limit and 3 or 4 times the information had to be packed into the last few pages. Or maybe the author ran out of time and rushed through the last chapter. Then, to make matters worse, it ended in a cliff hanger Not just a tease going into the next book of the series, but a major cliff hanger. I agreed with the good reviews up until the disappointing end of the story.
Finally some great books about over forty women! This one is from a favorite author of mine. Cricket is divorced, her kids are away at college, she’s starting over–living in her grandmother’s basement.
I loved the internal snarky comments Cricket makes. It sounds so much like me. When she acquires an antique typewriter she decides her new career just might be as an author. She’s excited for the first time in years. She writes a short story the first shot out and can’t wait to share it with her bestie…until the story becomes the next big local news story–exactly as she’d written it.
It’s time to find out what’s going on. It isn’t just the story from her new/old typewriter. Something not so funny is going on she’s getting to the bottom of it. That is if she lives through the investigation. There are lots of secrets to be unearthed and people to figure out. She wanted something more from life, yeah, but not this much more.
Great start to a new series with secrets, witches, magic, and new friends or are they, enemies?
