Emperor Wray Vasteri is the ruler of the Tornian Empire. His House has ruled the Empire ever since the Great Infection, which struck over five hundred years ago, and he fears he will be the last. The number of compatible females is dwindling faster than anyone anticipated. If they can’t find compatible females soon, their entire civilization will cease to exist. It is the reason he agreed to meet … meet with Liron, the Emperor of the Kaliszian Empire, in Kaliszian space. It is the only reason they had crossed paths with a Ganglian ship leaving Tornian space, and it is the only reason they discovered the small female.
Wray found himself drawn to the small female he found beaten and abused on the Ganglian ship. She resembled a Tornian female but was much smaller. Could she be what he was searching for?
Kim Teel had a hard life, at least she thought she had until her parents died suddenly, and her sister and brother-in-law disappeared. At nineteen, she realized she had been protected from all of life’s hardships. She had been cared for and loved her entire life, and had come to expect it, she was terribly spoiled. Determined to change her ways, Kim went looking for her sister, only to be captured by the Ganglians. It was then she learned what happened to the ‘unprotected’ females of the universe.
Wray and Kim are both doing the same thing, trying to survive. What they find is that there are more important things than just survival. Once they learn that, the universe changes forever.

With this book, we go back to the first couple, Wray and Kim, and get their story of how they met. Kim was kidnapped from Earth by the Ganglian’s and was abused and assaulted. Right when she knew she couldn’t go on any longer Wray intercepts the Ganglian ship and rescues her. While transporting Kim to his ship their shuttle is hit and they crash on the planet Pontus. While there he gets to know Kim and for the first time realizes females can be caring. Meeting Kim changes everything for Wray.
Kim has been through hell and survived. Now she has to navigate a new world, a new culture, and her feelings for Wray. These two have a lot of emotional scars to work through before they can have a future together. I love the over-protective, sweet, and clueless Tornian males. Wray, and all Tornian males, are the perfect male aliens and check all my boxes for a perfect alien hero.
Like I said in my review of Grim, this series is a favorite of mine and always makes me happy. I know there are a lot of grammatical and plot issues but the romance between the couples is what I really love. I know this series will not be for everyone, but it is my guilty pleasure and I will continue to reread it as I wait for the next book to come out.
Warning: Heroine is raped and abused.
Originally bought this one because the title is my son’s name. Have the whole series because it is just that good.
I’ve read this series like four times now. I can’t wait for more Tornians and Kaliszians!
Like Grim, I absolutely enjoyed reading Wray. Frankly I have read most of this authors work and I love all of them.
Second in series.
Focusing on King Grim ( From Book 1 ) older brother and emperor Wray. After travelling off world to inevestigate what is happening to the food the Tornians are sending to their allies the Kalizians… none the wiser but promising to investigate… Wray returns to his own planet, but before reaching it They stumble across a band of ‘stinky bastards’ hell bent in trying to find what they are hiding… the what turns out to be a who and after fleeing for their safety Wray and his charge a small woman of unknown origin needs his help and he must help her. Because she is his.
I freaking loved this story! I enjoyed that it was written after Grim’s story as a prequel of sorts, allowing all the layers of the Tornian world and customs to be revealed a piece at a time ( in grims book ) there was so much going on in this book… that for it to be filled with the plot twists and turns that were in grims book, would have distracted and taken away from the relationship between Wray and Kim… so Kudos to the author for using such a great method of writing and series development to continue this fantastic series.
Trigger warnings peeps because the start of this book is not good for anyone who is delicate in relation to abuse. But don’t let that put you off of readin… because this book is a wonderful book about healing and strength and moving on from pain and not letting that pain define or limit you.
Should be read first.
Loved it so much i bought audible. Have reread and relistened several times
You need to read these book in order they are well written and you get to feel for them and what they are going through
Great follow up to Grim and part of the Tornian Series. Wray is definitely right up there with Grim in the out of this world swoon worthy category!
