James Taylor sells his Texas ranch and moves back to his hometown of Sweet Water, Michigan, with his horses in tow. His flaw is that he is too polite. Using his cowboy charm around the women, he has a hard time telling them ‘no’, or ever making a commitment.Single mother, Mindy MacAllister takes her young daughter to Sweet Water where they will live at her grandfather’s farm. When she arrives, … arrives, she is surprised to find the farmhand is none other than James – the boy she’s had a crush on since she was a child. As they rekindle their past, an intimate relationship starts up between them, making her hesitant to share the secrets of her dark past.
Can a gentle cowboy and a troubled woman come to terms with each other’s flaws before they are torn apart forever?
The Taylor Twelve: Sons of a preacher but far from saints, these men are nothing but trouble! (This is a twelve-book series but each book stands on its own.)

Enjoyable
This was a wonderful story for love, new beginnings, family and a place to call home. I enjoyed it very much.
I enjoyed this story. Mindy (Melinda) was trying to reconnect with family after a very rough past. She was a strong woman who did not fully believe in herself. With all that haunted her, she wanted better. James wasn’t prepared for what was to come. He was caring most of the time as well as selfish at other times. The two complemented each other, and it was great as they worked out the history and their future. With some other sideline stories, this story showed how family can come together. I still have more to read in this series and look forward to doing so.
This is my unsolicited review.
Another Taylor brother, another great story. James Taylor has come back to Sweetwater. He is living on Charlie MacAllister’s farm stabling his horses and helping the old man tend the farm. Aunt Cappy returns from her latest adventure bring MacAllister’s granddaughter Mindy and her 8 year-old daughter, Jory, with her. There’s bad blood between Mindy (and her brother) and her grandfather. James convinces her to move in at the farm and tries to help Charlie and Mindy reconcile. He has a lot of help from his brothers and, of course, Aunt Cappy. Just when it seems James and Mindy are falling in love and might have a future, exes on both sides show up and well, all hell breaks loose. Is there a way to work through the problems (and the danger)? Do James and Mindy really want to be together? And what’s going on with Aunt Cappy and Charlie?
This is a winner, as are all the Tarnished Saints stories. The characters in these stories are great. It’s hard not to love the Taylor brothers and their growing family. These guys work hard and take care of each other (or at least try to). Their wives and Aunt Cappy keep them straight. James and Mindy have an interesting story filled with secrets, tension (working through secrets and problems isn’t easy), fun, danger, and surprises. I don’t read a lot of contemporary romances, but I highly recommend this book and series to any romance fan.
Wrangling James is the second book I’ve read in Elizabeth Rose’s Tarnished Saints series. The first one I read was the first in the series, Doubting Thomas. I used to read contemporary romances but my preferred genre is historical romance running the gamut from medieval through Victorian. Elizabeth Rose is one of my faves in historical romance so I thought it only fair to give her contemporary romances a look and read.
Elizabeth does a good job with character description and development. Once she establishes the innate traits of a character she pretty much sticks to it through the book. In Wrangling James she makes it clear about the personalities of James, her hero, and Mindy, the heroine, as well as the supporting characters in this read. There were some really delightful secondary characters who made me laugh, most of whom were James’ brothers and their wives. And Aunt Cappy and Mindy’s grandpa, what charming senior geezers. I won’t go into the storyline as I prefer some things be left to your own discovery.
It was a good, fun read worth 3 1/2 – 4 Stars!
James Taylor was feeling overworked. Charlie MacAllister, owner of the ranch, was paying more attention to his “still” than to farm work. James’s twin brother came over to the farm and told him to hurry to the railroad station and pick up their Aunt and Charlie’s grand daughter, who wants to come home and help out on the farm. James wasn’t happy. The last time he saw Mindy, was when she left. Her parents had died and she was crying in James’s embrace. Mindy was the little freckled face, red hair, motor mouth girl who had a crush on him. James didn’t want her help, but he had a problem, he couldn’t say NO to a girl. James and Zeb made it to the station just in time. They were looking for Aunt Cappy and out steps a beautiful, long legged, red haired woman, a little girl and finally Aunt Cappy. Much to James surprise, the gorgeous model turned out to be Mindy. Now the fun starts. Will Charlie forgive his grand daughter? Who is Jory’ s father and what happened to him? Why did Denise come to Michigan from Texas? You’ll have to read the book to find out who Jory and Denise are. This book is filled with love and laughter, some joy and sorrow and just a touch of mystery. James is definitely a “Tarnished Saint” and you will want to read his story.
When a youthful crush is long remembered and as an adult, Mindy MacAllister finds that crush on her grandfather’s farm, what can happen? James Taylor moves back to his hometown Sweet Water with his horses after years being away. Finding work helping Mindy’s grandfather Charlie, does not prepare him from seeing Mindy as an adult. Mindy, with her eight year old daughter, has not had the ideal life, so moving back in with Charlie is her last choice. But that is what she does even though her grandfather pushes her away at every opportunity. Can a childhood friendship be rekindled into an adult attraction? Charlie has had his own problems and an old girlfriend just will not leave him alone. But fate has a way of stepping in to make all objections fade away. Even though this is part of a series this story can be read as a standalone. But I encourage you to read them all because with Elizabeth Rose the author, you will definitely be entertained!!
The Guy who Can’t say No.
James and Mindy last saw each other when she was 8 and he 15. He remembers her as a little freckle-faced monster with orange pigtails; a pesky girl with a crush on him. When she returns to Sweet Water as an adult, James is blown away – her freckles appear to have disappeared, she wears 6” heels and sexy dresses, her hips are curvy and she has an enticing bosom. She is also accompanied by her 8 year old daughter Jordan (who is the spitting image of her mother at that age).
Mindy’s former crush on James has not subsided but she has a seedy past, a grandfather intent on rejecting her and a nemesis in the shape of James ex-girlfriend to overcome before she can wrangle James into a relationship.
Insta lust, insta love.
James sells out in Texas and moves back home to start his ranch and to be near his brothers. He makes a deal to help out Ol’ Charlie on his farm, living there and working, in order to keep his horses on the property too. Little does he know, the little redhead that pestered him when he was a teen was moving back into her Grandfather’s home and he would be out on his ear.
Mindy doesn’t have a choice if she wants to keep a roof over her daughter’s head but to move back in with her grumpy, bully of a grandfather. He is all she has left.
