Death calls to me, and unfortunately for me, I’m his b*tch…Being the daughter of a wraith means that death is in my veins. It also means that just because I happen to be found around a lot of dead bodies doesn’t mean I’m a serial killer. But try to get the jackass Supernatural Enforcers to believe that. The thing is, I can’t tell them what I am, because according to the paranormal world I’m an … according to the paranormal world I’m an “abomination” that would need to be killed. So, I have no good excuse for all the crime scene appearances.
Which leads me to Nightmare Penitentiary, my lovely new home. A place with a lot of dangerous enemies, secrets, and three hot-as-sin prisoners who seem to want to do all kinds of dirty things to me.
Doesn’t sound bad does it? Enemies and secrets I’d take, as long as I got my yummy men.
If only prisoners weren’t being murdered, we might be able to find our own slice of paradise in hell itself. But with time working against us, we need to find a way to escape.
Or else the next prisoners being murdered might just be us.
WRAITH CAPTIVE is a reverse harem romance set in the shared world Paranormal Prison. It’s steamy, humorous, and has a cliffhanger ending. So come join an amazing group of authors in Nightmare Penitentiary, a place you’ll never want to escape from!

I am in love with this prison series!! This one is by the wonderful Lacey Carter Anderson who is always good for a steamy read. This one is no exception as we meet our FMC who is a half breed wraith. She is drawn to death which is how she gets arrested since she is drawn to the scene of a really big group of dead bodies. Thrown into the prison as the only female makes things a little rough at least until she runs into an old flame they are all terrified of. Between him and his two friends she is kept safe as the danger increases for them all. Makes it necessary for all their secrets to come out while leading to one doozy of a cliff hanger ending. I cannot wait for the next book. A must read for fans of paranormal prison RH. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
Wraith Captive (A Steamy Reverse Harem Romance) by Lacey Carter Andersen is a wonderful story that I have read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I have loved reading very much and can not wait to read the next book. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading reverse harem and paranormal romances.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I’m not sure I’ve read a book with a wraith main character before. Elizabeth battles with the knowledge of what she is, and does her best to keep this life from her human one.
I have read quite a few paranormal prison stories, but this one was a little more twisty than others, and the ending was not what I expected at all. I enjoyed this story!
I really loved this book, the story was exciting, fast paced and action packed and grabbed my attention right from the start, and kept me engrossed right to the end. This book had a great plot, with some surprising plot twists, and memorable characters, I particularly loved the scary hardened criminals had a ‘boogey man’ they were all terrified of. I can’t wait for book 2, this series very addictive. I receieved this book in exchange for my honest review.
Thrilling read. I look forward to the next book and I’m happy I don’t have to wait for it.
Tension, suspense, violence, death, mad passionate sex, unshakable friendship – a riveting book, hard to put down except to release some of the stress from reading the adventure of Elizabeth, the daughter of a wraith, who is sent to Nightmare Penitentiary for crimes against the Fae. She meets her old flame, Gabriel, and his buddies Ax and Blade. Together they fight to survive and strive to find trust in each other so they can escape the prison before they are killed. Gradually Elizabeth adds the three guys to her harem. Together they attempt to escape. The book ends on a cliffhanger.
A different type of paranormal romance. This one takes place in a prison. Humans aren’t alone in the world and if you are different you may find yourself here. How long? No one is ever given a time. Things aren’t normal here and soon Elizabeth will learn the hard way what she is. The story moves pretty fast and we learn more about Elizabeth as the story goes. We also will meet some men that will change things for the good and the bad. Who are the good guys and who to trust may just get you killed.
Wow! This was one intense story. It is packed full of drama, suspense, mystery, and action. It pulls you in and doesn’t let go. It is extremely well written and I loved the characters. They have fantastic personalities that are felt throughout the story. It is a stunning story that is about a group that has to go through so much just to find a moment of peace. It is a story that is a must read as it ends in a major cliffhanger. I can’t wait to see what happens next
I absolutely loved the start of this prison reverse harem series! There are so many different paranormal creatures and twists with them that made me fall in love with the story. It has the perfect amount of steam, mystery, and action that left me wanting more.
I thought that Elizabeth was really feisty and stubborn and liked that she didn’t show weakness once she got to Nightmare Penitentiary, even if her actions were stupid and could’ve ended horribly. I’m not sure if I like Ax or Blade best, but I did like them both more than Gabriel. The chemistry between Elizabeth and the guys was undeniable even though they all tried to fight it. The doctor there was definitely psychotic even if we only got a glimpse at her and she was a little on the freaky side too.
I really enjoyed the build up to what Elizabeth and the guys were and that it wasn’t just blatantly said. I found the creatures that Lacey created, especially the CorpseSnare, to be intriguing and unique and I hope to see many more of them as the series progresses. I kind of expected the ending and cliffhanger, but it was well done and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Elizabeth and the guys!

Wraith Captive is the first book in Lacey Carter Andersen’s new Dark Supernaturals series. This book is a paranormal prison book and it is full of drama, suspense, steamy and some seriously dangerous situations for the characters. Get ready to meet Elizabeth, a character who walks around telling herself that she’s human, but the truth is…she’s a half-breed pretending to be human, but she’s about to find herself thrown in prison for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. But things are only going to get worse from there, but there will be a bright side to it…a reunion is in store.
Wraith Captive is an engaging paranormal prison novel. Elizabeth intrigues me from the beginning especially when lights flicker around her and then go out. She’s rarely unnerved at first, but when the pull seizes her I know that something bad is about to happen. I love her relationship with her mother, but I also wonder what secrets her mother is keeping from her. The story is well-paced and engaging throughout. I’m fascinated by Elizabeth and her hidden powers, but I’m also intrigued by the men that she meets. The warden I find rather curious, and I have to admit that I’m eager to learn more about him as well, and the “good” doctor.
While there are moments of where I don’t mind Elizabeth’s attitude and snark there are moments of where I think she needs to learn when to hold her tongue and have more sense. Her mouth and stubbornness get her into trouble that could be avoided if she used her sense instead of just running her mouth or thinking that prison is really the place to try and be modest. Also, the “I’m human” lie…gets old…fast. She’s obviously NOT fully human, and the people who threw her into prison would hardly make THAT big of a mistake. Besides, if she REALLY wanted to pass off that lie of “I’m human” wouldn’t it make more sense for her to…NOT run her mouth and accept the help from the guys willingly to stay safe from the prison full of men who would love to have a turn with her?
I enjoy the book though and I’m looking forward to book two in this series. There are some nice steamy moments in this book and one where it’s a group “activity.” I couldn’t get enough of it. I am choosing to rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I’m taking off a star because of Elizabeth having what I classify as “dumb” moments. She needed/needs a reality check that in prison…modesty is a luxury and the guys getting away with protecting her all the time…it’s a bit overdone and takes away from the prison element since I felt that they should be punished in some form for constantly getting in the way of the guards. Plus, the lie she constantly spouts off…too much. It’s obviously a lie and obvious no one is buying it whatsoever. If you enjoy books by this author and like a good reverse harem then I think that you will enjoy reading this book.
Without even realizing what was happening, I got sucked into this book until it was darned good and ready to spit me back out. I’m still not even entirely sure what I just read. I love the chemistry between the four main characters. They’re each so unique and different. It was very easy to connect with Elizabeth in her complete and utter confusion over what was going on. And I loved seeing how Gabriel, Ax, and Blade rallied around her. I have no idea what’s going to happen next, but I know I need to read it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through Black Cat.
I love this shared world and especially this storey line as i think i am in love with the idea that misfits stick together and protect their own.
There are some strong personalities in this group and a further possible partner in Storm whom i would love to learn more about his back storey which i am sure will be released in book 2.
This starts off based in the main prison but switched later to almost a Hunger Games/Maze runner theme but done in teams to survive however other than fighting to remain alive we don’t know what any end game is which makes for a lot of intrigue
Plenty of heat and early on multiple partner sex scenes which i am hoping don’t become too repetitive by book 2 as there is only so much you can do when you there early in a book.
Really enjoyable and definitely not slow burn!
I’ve already discovered that it’s quite hard to go wrong with Lacey Carter Andersen. (She has now written a slow burn too and I’m quite excited to get to that one! I normally am not a huge fan of fast burns, but she writes them amazingly well, so I love to see what she does with books that normally are much more up my alley!) But with every book I read by her she once more proves how great she is as an author.
This book is very clearly a fast burn. We don’t really get to know the guys that well before they have sex with our heroine, however I always find Andersen’s explanations for it very plausible and realistic. I think that’s one of the main reasons it doesn’t bother me so much. There is a reason for the sexual attraction and the more emotional and personal issues are not forgotten along the way. They just come after, but they do come eventually, always.
The plot of this book doesn’t seem too big, however, it’s interesting enough to have me wondering what’s going on and what will happen in the next book. I kinda think that we’ve only seen the very beginning of everything and that there’s a lot more to come. I have all my fingers crossed that in the next book we’ll get some answers already! On top of that, I did enjoy getting to know the world, the species, the key players in this story and what kind of game is being played.
And I also really enjoyed the characters in this story! Elizabeth is a truly awesome heroine. She has sass, maybe a little too much, but it turns out she also has the power to back it up, so why not. She is brave and she’s curious. She also has three amazing guys falling in love with her. They all have their own history and stories to tell and I love how they are so different, and not only species wise. I’m really excited to get to know all of them better in the next book!
This is an epic story filled with twists you will never see coming… Murder… Mystery… And plenty of heat throughout.
Elizabeth is keeping a secret that noone can know. She is drawn to death. She is campus when she gets the pull of death. She finds bodies of dead people, one man speaks to her. She is surrounded and tries to explain she didn’t do it. They don’t believe her and throw her in prison.
Elizabeth doesn’t know how she will survive this prison. She is saved by her ex-boyfriend that just disappeared. He is with 2 others guys. Elizabeth is attracted to all of them. She will keep her battle of wills with all of them. While they all try to survive being in the prison. Things will escalate when the head of prison has Elizabeth on his radar.
This was a great first book in series. I really enjoyed reading it. Elizabeth can be a little annoying at times. The twist and turns of each character with the back drop of what is happening at the prison is really good.
What a really interesting book! I love the world building and story.
Elizabeth tells everyone she’s human, but she knows she something else. Then she ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time and next thing she knows is she’s in a supernatural prison.
I found Elizabeth a little hard to like in parts, she was sometimes argumentative for no reason and considering her situation she was putting a bigger marker on herself.
I enjoyed the dynamic of the guys and it certainly made for an interesting read.
The cliffhanger was unexpected.
Who doesn’t love a steamy paranormal prison romance?
I really loved this book. Elizabeth is an amazing combination of sassy strong and hopelessly naive.
This book is fast-paced action-packed (in both the steamy and literal sense).
I love the diversity of all the guys’ powers and of course Elizabeth’s mysterious heritage, which we don’t find out until near the end.
The guys also have pretty diverse personalities which also makes for an interesting read, as their friendship dynamic is really cool and quite interesting.
This was a brilliant prison romance with awesome heroes and a boss heroine who knows what she wants.
The cliff this one left me on was immense and I really would like the next one right now (pretty please?)
This was a wonderful story, well written and captivating. Definitely some heat in this book. Elizabeth is an entertaining character, strong and kickass at times and other times she leans on her guys. The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger and it leaves you wanting more, with questions galore and waiting on answers.
I quite enjoyed this book, although that cliffhanger was a hard one and confused me greatly. I really hope book two answers those questions. The story had promise and it was highly entertaining. I liked the concept and the variety of scenes in this first book. It’s has steamy scenes but I would’ve loved some more romance, just my preference. But I will definitely pick up book two! It was a fun read with action and drama everywhere.
A spellbinding reverse harem romance read
Elizabeth, a TA in the Language Arts department, has a secret that could get her killed if it comes out. As the story progresses a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time occurs, a blast from the past arrives to save the day, and making it through the night may take more than one guy to keep her safe. Lacey Carter Andersen’s addition to the Nightmare Penitentiary series is a spellbinding reverse harem romance read. I can’t wait to read more about Elizabeth and her men.
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
