Last month I had the lucky opportunity to be introduced to this author’s work. I read and reviewed her latest book then and loved it! So, I jumped at this chance to read and review her new book and found myself again mesmerized by her words.
This book is book one in the Shadow World Book Series.
This book is about Kira, a strong-willed, intelligent, stubborn pilot in Alaska. Kira has dreams – very strong, deep, intense dreams that allow her to feel death and tell when someone is danger. Several years earlier her brother went missing and is considered dead. However, no body has ever been recovered and Kira does not believe her brother is actually dead. She knows she would have felt it if he really died and she didn’t feel it. Kira continues to look for him.
One night Kira starts having these powerful dreams warning her that a child, Annie Michaels, is about to reach the same fate as her missing brother. Unfortunately, when Kira talks to Annie’s parents about her dreams, they don’t believe her. Kira knows she needs help to save Annie and so she turns to the one person who has been there for her, Hunter. Hunter is just as stubborn as Kira which makes for some fun and witty banter between these two! Hunter is really a good guy and it becomes pretty obvious that he likes Kira as more than just a friend. However, Kira is not so sure she’s willing to risk her one and only friendship for something that probably won’t work out in the end. Nonetheless, when Annie is taken, Kira and Hunter team up and put everything on the line to save and rescue Annie.
This book is full of mystery, adventure, action, excitement, suspense, intrigue, fantasy, and even a bit of romance thrown in! As you can see, this book has something to offer pretty much every genre reader!
Although this book’s main genre is listed as fantasy I don’t feel like the book revolved around that – which I was thankful for. Don’t get me wrong, the fantasy theme is definitely in there, but there is just so much else going on too, that the mystery and suspense themes are equally as valid and as important.
As usual with Gwenan Haines books, I really like the characters! She writes well-developed, confident, likable, genuine characters. I enjoyed following Kira and Hunter’s story! They had great chemistry and played well off each other!
The pace of the book is fast to steady. It keeps you fully engaged and entertained to the very last page!
I must warn you though, the ending isn’t tidy! There are definitely many questions left unanswered. Hopefully they will be addressed in book two as this book is part of a book series. But fair warning – you may be left upset or disappointed not knowing certain things and having more questions than answers at the end. That is all I’m going to say as I try hard not to have any spoilers in my book reviews.
All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend this book to all readers as this book offers mystery, suspense, action, adventure, excitement, thriller, intrigue, fantasy, romance, and so much more!
