Ten years ago, Ellie Fairfield left Rocky Harbor with a broken heart… and himself, Colton Riley’s homecoming isn’t a pleasant one…
Being medically discharged from the Marines is one of many disappointments Colton has suffered over the years. A decade ago, he lost a chunk of his heart when the love of his life betrayed him. A year ago he lost his leg. Now, half the man he once was, Colton tries to put back the pieces of his life by accepting a construction project at the local inn, but he didn’t count on finding Ellie standing on the front porch.
The more time they spend together, the more they realize the love they shared years ago hasn’t died…
Even though Ellie is still hurt and angry, she knows her heart belongs to Colton. It’s not easy letting go of the past, especially with the secret she’s hiding from everyone. But when an illness puts her little boy’s life in danger, she has no choice but to tell Colton the truth—a truth that threatens to destroy their love once and for all.
With a past spun together in a web of lies, will Colton and Ellie be able to mend their wounded love?

Wounded Love by Marianne Rice is a fantastic contemporary second chance romance. Ms. Rice has given us a well-written book and furnished it with amazing, lovable characters. Colton is a wounded warrior and trying to adjust to his new reality. Ellie is a single mom with a sick son. Ellie and Colton’s story is packed with drama, humor, spice and just a bit of suspense. This book hooked me at page one and held me hostage to the very end. I loved reading Wounded Love and look forward to reading more by Marianne Rice. Wounded Love is book 3 of The Rocky Harbor Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another terrific book in the Rocky Harbor Series. This is Colton and Ellie’s story. Each of them carried a ton of baggage that left them fearful of opening their hearts. They were equally pig-headed. If they had simply talked (REALLY talked) to each other, their lives would have been so much easier. I wanted to slap them both for jumping to so many wrong conclusions.
The Riley family is an important part of each story in this series. Even though each book is a standalone centering on a different Riley sibling, the entire family plays a major role. I love the family dynamics and what that adds to the story.
CJ was such an important part of this story but he was never really developed, IMO. The climax was too neatly wrapped up with no mention of all the things that needed to be done in the years to come. I won’t say more because I hate spoilers. IMO, Ellie’s dad got off too easy.
I highly recommend reading Wounded Love and the entire Rocky Harbor Series. Marianne Rice is a talented author.
I’m a sucker for a first lovers reunited story. But WOUNDED LOVE is so much more than that.
Take a rich girl, and townie boy. Add in some teenage hormones mixed with young and vulnerable hearts. Stir in some poor choices and you’ve got me hooked.
As teenagers, Ellie Fairfield and Colton Riley promised to love each other forever. But the actions of Ellie’s parents and Colton’s feelings of inadequacy separated them at a time they needed to be together.
Fast forward 10 years.
Ellie manages an inn, her 9 year old son, sickly CJ, her meaning for living. Colton is a war hero, but in being one, he’s lost everything – his men, one of his legs, and even –he fears—his soul. When the two are reunited, both are still seriously hurt and wounded by the events of their past and the secret Ellie has fought hard to protect for all these years. When that secret needs to come out, she fears she will lose any chance of a future with Colt by her side.
Marianne Rice drew me into this story from page one. There is a medical subplot concerning CJ that I don’t want to go into because it’s a spoiler, but just know this: I’m a nurse and Ms. Rice got EVERYTHING about this situation right – especially the emotions.
5 well deserved stars from me. I can’t recommend this ROCKY HARBOR series enough.
